SKUTEZKY, Phoebe Maye Evans
Peacefully at Tadoussac, Quebec, on July 4, 2008, surrounded by family. Loving wife for over 60 years of Ernest SKUTEZKY, mother and grandmother of Michael (Judy SHIRRIFF) Trevor, James, and Ruth SKUTEZKY of Toronto, Trevor J. (Gail GOODFELLOW) Dorothy, Charles and Evelyn SKUTEZKY of Montreal, Gwen, (late Alan SAWERS) Christopher and Gordon SAWERS of Vancouver.
Best friend and sister of Ainslie Stephen (late William) of Montreal, sister of the late Trevor A. EVANS (Jill) and Rhodes Bethune (Tim) EVANS (Claire) of Victoria, B.C.
Phoebe was an enthusiastic member of the Montreal General Hospital auxiliary working in the Hospitality Shop, always making time to listen to those that needed that kindness. Her participation at the Atwater Club spanned half a century playing badminton and tennis well into her eighties. In the 1970s, Phoebe was crew to sailor husband Ernest, sailing in 420 regattas off Dorval Naval Base and upriver. Our Mom was always involved in our activities either on the sidelines watching as a hockey Mom, choir mother, Tawny Owl or coaching Ringette. She was one of the 'pioneers' of Ringette co-coaching a Canadian Championship Team. She was a proud Lady member of the 78th Fraser Highlanders. Phoebe, lover of family, nature and all its creatures, great and small enjoyed being 'out in it' whether it was from 'le petit train de nord' in the Laurentian mountains as a teenager and young adult, in the Morgan Arboretum well past middle age, or as a summer resident of Tadoussac, Quebec from the age of 3 months, enjoying the view and activity of the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers and environs from her front verandah in her later years.
The Family wishes to acknowledge the care she received at Kensington Place, Westmount, from the nursing staff and aides under the leadership of Doctor Lysy, the diligent attention of the waitresses in the 2nd floor dining room and the attendants of the Agence Maria. In accordance with her wishes, Phoebe has been cremated with burial at a later date. A service of remembrance will be held July 17, 2008 at 4: 00 p.m. at the Tadoussac Protestant Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Tadoussac Protestant Chapel would be appreciated by the Family. 141 Crescent Road, Toronto, Ontario. M4W 1V1. Attn: The Treasurer.
