HARRIS, Vera Muriel
Peacefully at the Babcock Community Care Centre in Wardsville, on Thursday, March 20th. Vera HARRIS in her 93rd year. Loving wife of the late Clarence HARRIS. Dear mother of Marilyn FREEMAN and her husband Ray, Cheryl EXLEY and her husband Frank and Margaret MILLER and her husband Don. Beloved sister of William WATSON and his spouse Velma and late Edna TAILOR/TAYLOR, Viola RAYMOND, Reta JOHNSTON, Florence HARRIS and twin brother Earl WATSON. Dear sister-in-law to Shirley HARRIS. Proud grandmother of Heather NEWTON and her husband David, Paul FREEMAN and his fiance Charlene SIMON, Steven EXLEY, David EXLEY and his spouse Betsy, Nicole MILLER and her partner Al, Janette MILLER and Michael MILLER and his spouse Christine. Loving great-grandmother of eleven. A resident of Longworth Retirement Residence in London, which she enjoyed for the past nine months. Vera and her late husband Clarence owned and operated the "Blossom Children's Shop" of Saint Thomas for 14 years. She was secretary for the Elgin County School Inspectors from 1952 to 1962 and retired from the Ministry of Health purchasing department in 1971. Vera was a life long member of Central United Church and their Philathea Class. Friends will be received at the Daniel King Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas, (519) 631-0570 on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service to celebrate Vera's life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Memorial tributes in Vera HARRIS' name may be made to Central United Church, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice

The family and Friends of the late Vera (WATSON) HARRIS who passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20th gathered to celebrate her life on Wednesday March 26th at the Daniel King Funeral Home in Saint Thomas. Memories of Vera were shared by her daughters Marilyn FREEMAN, Cheryl EXLEY and Marg MILLER and granddaughter Heather NEWTON. Gifts of music given by Gillian LAIDLAW, Ann WINDSOR and Dave and Betsy EXLEY were appreciated by the family. A lovely luncheon was prepared by "The Friends of Saint Mark's Church" and served at the funeral home. A private interment followed at the Elmdale Memorial Cemetery with Vera's granddaughter Heather NEWTON, grand_sons Paul FREEMAN, Steve and Dave EXLEY, David NEWTON and great-grand_son Daniel NEWTON serving as pallbearers. A sincere thank-you to Christine KING for her quiet, gentle care given to the family. To Shawn JACKSON and the staff of Daniel King Funeral Home for all the details they attended to. Special thanks to Barb DAWSON and Marjorie SMITH for their kindly ministrations in assisting with the service and cheerful visits especially over the past few months and weeks. The family was blessed and will not forget the outpouring of love with visits, food, cards and flowers from Friends and relatives. Many were fed and fellowship was enjoyed! Relatives attended from Colorado, Florida, Forest, Hamilton, Idaho, Kincardine, London, North Carolina, Philadelphia and Waterloo. It would be appreciated if any further memorial donations be directed to the Elgin Saint Thomas Community Association for the Joanne Brooks Foundation in memory of Vera's special niece.
