WILLSON, Joan Whitman (née MacDONALD)
Passed away peacefully in Richmond Hill, Ontario on October 12, 2007. Born in Edmonton, Alberta on November 11, 1920 to the late George Heath MacDONALD and Dorothea (HUESTIS) MacDONALD. Beloved mother of Robert Bruce WILSON (Bogusia), Heather Joan WILLSON and John Stuart WILSON (Angela.) Beloved grandmother of Rebecca WILLSON, Mathew WILLSON, Simon IWADE (Nao) and Karen IWADE. Recently, delighted great-grandmother of Leon IWADE. Married May 29, 1943 to Bruce Franklin WILSON of Edmonton until his passing in 1991. Cherished companion of Richard CORBETT of Unionville, Ontario. A Bachelors of Arts graduate of the University of Alberta in 1942, Joan spent her married life in Edmonton, Calgary and Thornhill, Ontario and was active in many volunteer activities including the University Women's Club (President of North York Chapter), Consumer's Association of Canada (Toronto), Ontario Golf Association (where she taught the rules of golf and assisted in organizing tournaments) and Living and Learning in Retirement at York University (President for 2 years). A long time member of York Downs Golf Club, she served on the Club's Board of Directors for 4 years and as president of the ladies section. Her passions in life included bridge, golf, gardening and travel, whether to experience new far-flung destinations, or to visit Friends and family in Western Canada, Israel or Japan. Her enthusiasm for life was hard to keep up with, and even at 86, she was a bundle of energy, always concerned about looking after her family and Friends before herself. Friends will be recieved at Highland Funeral HomeMarkham Chapel (northeast corner of 16th avenue and 404) on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service on Tuesday October 16th at 10: 00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment at Elgin Mills Cemetery.
