"DEJ" 2007 Obituary

DEJEAN o@ca.on.york_county.toronto.globe_and_mail 2007-08-06 published
EVANS, John Joseph " Jack"
Goderich, Ontario. On Saturday August 4, 2007 in his eightieth year Jack was called to his eternal reward after a life of joy and happiness. Huron Country born and bred and determined to spend his life there, Jack was rock-solid in his commitments - his nick name, "Honest John". No gray areas in his life - one wife, one family, one house and one passion - sports. An avid and respected team player in football, baseball and hockey. An accomplished golfer, a long-time junior B hockey coach in the Detroit Red Wings organization dating from 1957 and a 10 year coach with his beloved "Canada Company" softball team. As an N.H.L. scout with Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues along with a year with the Hockey Canada Junior program, Jack criss-crossed North America many times and made several trips to Europe and Russia. Over the 33 year span of that career, his professional life was spent in his favorite recreational pursuit, watching hockey games, many thousands of them. Before making a draft pick, the last question at the St. Louis Blues table at the annual junior draft was "What does Jack think?" Jack's response "Well boys, in my opinion…"
Jack's life was devoted to and shared with his loving wife Rosemarie and daughters Mary Jo and Jenny (husband Darren DEJEAN) who rejoiced in his life and now mourn his passing. Visitation at McCallum Palla Funeral Home in Goderich Monday August 6, 2: 00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., 7: 00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Parish prayers at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass 11: 00 a.m. Saint Peter's Catholic Church, Goderich Tuesday August 7. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Huron County Computed Tomography Scanner Program at Goderich.
