HYER, Roy N.
Born December 30, 1927. Passed away July 13, 2006. Beloved son of Ivar Magnus HYER and Svanhild YSSEN. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Ann FISHER, 1927-1988. Beloved companion of his faithful dog, Zoe. Roy had an active mind and body, and pursued many interests to keep both occupied: skiing, archaeology, history, tennis, bridge, travel, photography and, not least of all, his profession, chemical engineering. In pursuit of excellence throughout his life, he constantly strived to improve his professional knowledge and skills, and did the same with his many hobbies. After retiring in 1989, he turned to his main passion, photography, and received awards for the landscape photographs he took throughout Canada and the Western U.S. seaboard. He and his family both lived in and travelled throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Friends in Montreal, Toronto, Wichita (Kansas), Edmonton, Vancouver and Ottawa will miss him. Roy is survived by his sister, Irene BROWN, his two children, Norman and Janet HYER, and his spouse, Jacoba VAN MAANEN. He will be remembered with love and affection. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue, at Richmond Road, in Ottawa, on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 12 noon until the service time in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment at Pinecrest Cemetery.
