OCKENDEN 2005-07-26 published
William WARBURTON, peacefully, on July 24, 2005, at Exeter Villa, in his 83rd year. Lovingly remembered by his children William WARBURTON, Susan and Ben HOOGENBOOM and Mary and Martyn VAN ESSEN, grandchildren Ben and Jenna, Kara, Joel, Ian, and Wynn, Kirsten, Jerry, Samantha and Brandon and sisters and brother-in-law Mollie REESOR, Barbara OCKENDEN, Dorothy and Harry TROUGHTON, and Norma and Franklin SPARROW. Bill was predeceased by his first wife and the children's mother Dorothy (LEACH/LEECH/LEITCH) WARBURTON (1980,) second wife Dorothy (FOLLIOTT) WARBURTON (1995,) by parents William and Olive (WHITEHEAD) WARBURTON and by brothers-in-law Clayton REESOR and William OCKENDEN.
Bill was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (1942-1973), and attained the rank of Warrant Officer. During his thirty years of service as a noncommissioned officer, Bill was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-1945 War Medal, and the Special Service Medal (serving with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization). Bill also served the community with his contributions as People's Warden and Rector's Warden of Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church, Exeter, for many years. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, stories of his many travels, and bear hugs and whisker rubs. Thank you Bill for showing the importance of pride in self, community and country. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 27th at Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church at 2 p.m. with Reverend Bill WARD officiating. Cremation to follow. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service. Interment of ashes at Exeter Cemetery. Memorial Donations to south Huron Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
