Passed away suddenly on May 12, 2005, at the North York General Hospital, surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Karunadevy. Loving father of Sasie, Renuka and Dushy. Much loved son of the late Ponnuswamy of Vannarponnai and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. DURAIAPPA of Kalviyankaddu. Affectionate brother of Ramanathan, Sathianathan, Pathmavathy MURUGIAH, Sathiavathy DEVARAJAH, Thilagavathy KANAPATHIPPILLAI and Dr. Dharmavathy JEGATHEESWARAN. Dear brother-in-law of Manoharan, Thavaranjithan, Kirubaharan and Sarojadevi BALASINGHAM. Inventor, businessman, and intelligencer expert born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on January 11, 1896 After serving as a pilot in the First World War, he went to the University of Manitoba were he invented the wirephoto, radio-telegraphic means of sending pictures. In 1921, he moved to Britain to promote his brainchild among Fleet Street newspapers and made both a fortune and a notebook full useful connections. Soon after the outbreak of the Second World War, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill made him responsible for counterespionage in the Western Hemisphere and had him set up an office in New York with the cable address INTREPID, later taken by some to mean his codename. His operation achieved notable success, not the least of which was the training of secret agents at Camp X, in Oshawa, Ontario

Dear father of Arnie WESTELAKEN of Camlachie, Irene and Dave POSLIFF of Strathroy, Art and Ursula WESTELAKEN of Sarnia, Margaret and Mike INTVEN of Saint Thomas, Mike and Sheila WESTELAKEN of Rodney, Brian and Ruth WESTELAKEN of Hensall, Christine WESTELAKEN and Ken JULES of Woodstock, Jackie WESTELAKEN and Otte ROSENKRANTZ of London and Rob DARLING of Ilderton. Also survived by 24 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Dear brother of Anny LIEBREGTS, John WESTELAKEN and Paul and Betty WESTELAKEN all of Saint Thomas, Herman and Emmy WESTELAKEN of Uxbridge, Ed WESTELAKEN of Blenheim, Lucy and Louis VAN BOXMEER of London and Mary WESTLAKEN of Orillia. Predeceased by daughter Mary Ann DARLING, daughter-in-law Judy WESTELAKEN, brother Ben WESTLAKEN and sisters-in-law Jeanne and Ann WESTELAKEN and brother-in-law Joe LIEBREGTS. Family and Friends may call at the Hopper Hockey Funeral Home, 370 William Street, 1 west of Main, Exeter on Sunday 2-4 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Precious Blood Church, 200 Sanders Street West, Exeter on Tuesday, January 3rd at 11 a.m. with Father Ray LAWHEAD celebrating.
