She was the fifth child of the late Ronald and Agnes {ALLEN} McQUARRIE. Effie attended both public school and high school in Gore Bay and Teacher Training at North Bay Normal School in 1931 and 32. She taught in Pleasant Valley (formerly Pig Tantrum), Gore Bay, Toronto and Newmarket. On July 8, 1936 she married Marven BAUMAN/BOWMAN, and after 44 years away, retired to Gore Bay. Effie was a vital, active presence in her communities. She was a founding member of the Senior Citizen Club, serving as secretary for many years, until her failed vision forced her resignation. She served on the Library Board and was instrumental in starting the CNIB Help Group. Everyone who met her, recognized her as a special person, one who saw only the best in others.
