Died peacefully at Kelso Pines Lodge, Owen Sound on Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Helen was predeceased by her husband James A. (Jim) STEPHENSON and her brother Lawrence TWINING. Greatly missed and loving mother of Judy OAKEY of London, Vicki (Wolf) SLOPIANKA of Edmonton, Alberta and Barry (Joan) STEPHENSON of Owen Sound. Missed by her brothers Edwin (Audrey) TWINING of Dunnville and Russell (Marion) TWINING of Hamilton and her sister-in-law Barbara TWINING of Owen Sound. Cherished grandmother of Deanna (Scott) VOISIN, Taryn (Ben) ROLEAU, Walter SLOPIANKA, Karl SLOPIANKA, Derek STEPHENSON, Nicole STEPHENSON and great-grandchildren Rachel and Ben VOISIN. Cherished father of Cindy and her husband Bruce WHITE/WHYTE, of Oakville; Cheryl and her husband Richard LAPAGE, of Princeton, N.J.; and Malcolm and his wife Robin, of Toronto. Caring grandpa to Conner WHITE/WHYTE, and Luke and Matthew LAPAGE. Brother of Dorothy GUILLEMETTE; and brother-in-law of Ethel ARMSTRONG, Carol RICHARDSON, and Elaine WHETTON. With family at his side. Retired educator, Toronto Board of Education (1932-1977.) Husband of the late Nellie POLLARD. Companion of the late Yvonne BRAND. Loved companion of Marlies EHLING. son of Thomas MONKMAN and Jane ROLINSON of Yorkshire, England (both deceased). Brother of Anne, Jessie, Stanley and Edward (all deceased). Father of Neila (Lem) and Lance (m. Lynn). Grandfather ("Gumpa") of Kim, Paul, Carl and Shannon. Great-grandfather ("G.G.") of Kirk, Kyle, Dana and Owen. Harry was an inspiring and irrepressible rascal who astonished us all with his passionate love of life. Immense thanks to the palliative care team at Penetanguishene General Hospital, and to Doctor Richard THOMAS. Although Harry had donated his body for research at the University of Toronto, they have gratefully declined. After cremation, a private celebration of life.

On Tuesday, January 15th, 2008, in Oakville, Doug completed the journey through his very full life which he started in Cleveland, Ohio on April 6, 1910. Predeceased by his beloved wife Violet and sister Margaret, he leaves his two loving daughters and their families: Gail (John) ROLLAND and their sons Robert, David and Richard (Selena and their children Justin, Braden and Jacqueline) and Sandra (Jim) FARLEY and their sons Max (Ceilia and their children Adam and Morgan) and Mike. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care which Doug received in his later years from Doctor Robert GABRIEL and Doctor Don PEAT and the medical and hospital community which allowed him to enjoy an active life until the last. A service in celebration of Doug's life will be held at Saint_Jude's Church, 161 William Street, Oakville at 11: 00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008. Beloved husband of Marie GARDNER (née BOND) and loving father of Ross GARDNER (Sue) of Barrie, Ontario; Elizabeth GARDNER (Terry ROLLER) of High Prairie, Alberta and Scott GARDNER (Elin PAXTON) of Hamilton, Ontario.
Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Marion GARDNER of Sudbury, Ontario and his brother John GARDNER of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Survived by his brother Douglas GARDNER of Toronto, Ontario. He will also be greatly missed by his cherished grandchildren Sydney, Mary, Henry and Jane GARDNER.

Passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 25th at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital in her 61st year. Barbara, beloved partner of Ed LEAKEY and cherished mother of Heather and Louise, will be always be remembered by her precious granddaughters Brittany and Keziah, sons-in-law Peter HILSON and Harry BURGLER, as well as many Friends she considered to be family including Evelyn and Linda PARKER, Wendy FARNESS and Barb LEAKEY to name just a few. Surviving siblings include Betty, Reginald, Ross and Gloria, as well as siblings of her late husband James COX including Ron (Eve,) Irene (Norm) HENDRY, Ann (Bob) RAWN, Bill (Karen) and the late Barb (Earle) OSBURN. She was also predeceased by sisters Marg (Doug) JEFFRIES, Frieda, Doreen and brothers Albert and Bob. Barb was also a special Aunt to Sharon and Doug (Gina) JEFFERIES, Calvin McDONALD; Randy, Roxanna (George), Rob (Gayle), Joyce, Jerry (Marie), Greg, Earl (Sue,) and the late Rick (Connie) OSBURN; Sharon (John) VANDERKRABBEN, Robert, James (Carl), Michael and Jeffrey (Katrina) RAWN; Sherry (Wayne) PFEFFER and Terry (Sherald) COX; Doug (Lois), Jane, Norm, Bob, Ann and John HENDRY; Joshua and Bradley. Barb will also be sadly missed by the younger generation in her network of family and Friends including Jennifer and Jessica ROLLING, Jesse and Carlee LAWSON and numerous other great nieces and nephews. Throughout her life Barb showed incredible determination in overcoming adversity and always appreciated having her days brightened by family, Friends, former neighbours, Bendix co-workers and Laundry Factory customers. She choose to be grateful for what came her way rather than to complain about what didn't and, while receiving excellent care from Doctor QUIGG, Community Care Access Centre, hospice workers and nursing staff on the second floor of the G&M Hospital during her final months, was able to eloquently remind us all about what is truly important in life. May her spirit live on to help make the world a better place. Anna died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Oakville on the 17th day of October, 2007. She was born on May 31, 1916 in Port Arthur, in the Thunder Bay District. She was the second of six children of John YVASIENKO, who was a section foreman on the Sioux Lookout to Thunder Bay C.N. line. She went to Toronto for her education when still very young. There she met and married Donald Walter ROLLING, her loving husband of 30 years, in 1941. Her husband served in the Armed Forces and was discharged in 1946 as a Major and therafter had a career as a Plant Manager at General Electric. Anna spent many years as an Administrative Assistant at Speedy Glass. They both lived in North York until Anna moved to Oakville recently. She was predeacesed by her brother, John, and her sisters, Bella and Sophie; survived by her brother, Joseph, of Abbotsford, British Columbia and her sister, Audrey CROSS, of Richmond, British Columbia Dear mother of Douglas Donald ROLLING (Ana WAXMAN) of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia Her interment, as she wished, was held in Thunder Bay at the Riverside Cemetery on October 30, 2007.

BARCLAY, Ian Andrew (March 7, 1921-June 7, 2008)
It is with deep sadness that Ian's family announces his passing after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife Ann, beloved daughter Debbie (David) ROLLINS, his adored granddaughters Jennifer, Meaghan and Kelly of whom he was so proud, his sister Joan (John) DRUMMOND of Chelsea, Quebec and his brother-in-law Peter (Joan) HADRILL of Montreal. Ian also had many nieces, nephews and cousins who were an important part of his life.
Ian was born in Montreal to Jean (FLECK) and Mr. Justice Gregor BARCLAY and was educated at Selwyn House, Montreal and Ashbury College, Ottawa. In 1939 he started McGill and in 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He was loaned to the Royal Navy as a combined Ops Commando and served in the North African and Sicily campaigns, as well as the Normandy invasion on D-Day.
After the war Ian returned to McGill where he completed his law degree and then obtained his MPA at Harvard.
After a year of practising law in Montreal Ian, Ann and Debbie came to Vancouver where he started a long career in the forest industry with Columbia Cellulose. In 1964 he joined British Columbia Forest Products where he stayed until retiring in 1984 as their Chief Executive Officer. Ian served on the Economic Council of Canada as well as Many boards including the United Way, Hudson's Bay Co., the Royal Bank of Canada and Northern Telecom.
After his family and business his other great passion was sports. One of his proudest achievements was being a member of the navy team that won the Grey Cup in 1944. His interest in football continued as he became president of the British Columbia Lions and the Western Football Conference.
Ian was a gentle, softly spoken man and was a mentor to many young people in their formative years.
Our family would like to thank Doctor Brad Fritz and the medical teams at V.G.H.'S Intensive Care Unit and Critical Care Unit for their extraordinary care.
A celebration of Ian's life will take place at Saint Mary's Kerrisdale, 37th and Larch, at 2: 00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008. Rev. Kevin Dixon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, 310-1682 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver V6J 4S6.

Loving mother of Fred (Lynn) of Raleigh, North Carolina Mary of Kentville, Nova Scotia, Susan of Guelph and Rob (Bogusia SELWA) of Walbrzych, Poland. Much loved by her six granddaughters; Katie ROLLWAGEN (Darrell HARVEY) of Ottawa, Heather ROLLWAGEN (Adam BARNARD) of Calgary, Edey HOBSON (Matt TWIDDY) of Kingston, Ali ROLLWAGEN (Ryan Quinlan KEECH) of Toronto, Jane HOBSON of Hamilton, and Elizabeth HOBSON of Kentville, Nova Scotia. She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing and she proudly served in the Canadian Army Medical Corp in Europe from 1943-1946. Upon returning to Canada she earned her diploma in Public Health from the University of Toronto and worked in Public Health in Sarnia with the Lambton County Health Unit and the Rotary Children's Centre while raising her family. Betty was a devoted and active member of Laurel-Lea St. Matthew's Church, whose congregational support and encouragement were a source of much comfort. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair Parkway. Daphne shared her love of beauty, art and education with her family, colleagues and students of art and architecture. Executive Director of the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries at the Art Institute of Chicago, 1975-1985. A gifted administrator and fundraiser, Daphne worked tenaciously to develop the art libraries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Clark Art Institute, and the Canadian Centre for Architecture. Daphne will be dearly missed. With deep gratitude for the exemplary care of the nursing staff at the Grace Manor. A private family service will be held. In memory of Daphne, donations may be made to the Library of Trinity College, University of Toronto.

RHODES, Iva Jean (née McMULLEN,) B.A. (Hons)
(April 29, 1914-January 22, 2008)
A kind, gentle and elegant lady, teacher to many and a caring friend to all ages, passed away at Beechwood Court, Mississauga in her 94th year, after a long illness. Youngest daughter of the late John and Pearl McMULLEN of Petrolia. Predeceased by Douglas, her loving husband of 66 years, her beloved son Frederick and dear sister and brother-in-law, Orris and Melvin BEECROFT. Iva was deeply loved by her daughter Pamela ALEXANDER of New Zealand, daughter-in-law Carol ROLPH of Garden Hill, granddaughters Jennifer RUSAW of Newcastle, Meredith SEABROOK of Yellowknife, Morgain HOLLINGHURST of Edmonton and Jalynn ANDERSEN of Vancouver and their families including eight great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her nephew Doctor J. BEECROFT and his wife Roberta and her niece Heather BEECROFT of Toronto and their families. Iva was a graduate of Western University (English and French) Class of 1934 and was employed as a teacher in Petrolia, Montreal, Sarnia and Mississauga. Her love of teaching English, French and Latin was the basis for a life long love of reading and her favorite novel was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Iva had many interests including knitting, sewing, bridge, music, theatre and travel and was famous for baking bran muffins. She was a longstanding member of her church, Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire and the Retired Teachers Association of Ontario. She brought her family together on many happy occasions and her legacy of love, courage and strength is an inspiration to all who were privileged to know her. Her "larger than life hugs" will be sorely missed. Iva's family wish to thank all the wonderful caregivers, both in her home (Seniors for Seniors) and Beechwood Court (Excel Care) who provided support and love during this difficult stage of life. In addition, appreciation is extended to her former neighbours as well as members of Saint Peter's Church who shared their love. Special thanks to Michael Lavelle and Chris Hyatt for their unwavering Friendship and loyalty through many years. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Saint Peter's Erindale Anglican Church, 1745 Dundas Street, W. Mississauga with visiting beginning ½ hour prior. Private interment at Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Iva's memory may be made Saint Peter's Church or a charity of your choice.
