Of Wiarton, peacefully with her loving family at her side at Grey Bruce Health Services Wiarton on Monday, May 19th, 2008. The former Leona Frances Matilda VANCOUGHNETT in her 63rd year. Loving wife of Hector. Devoted mother of Christine EMERSON, of Wiarton; Alister (Rob TENEYCKE,) of St. Catharines; and Keith Davis (Shelly), of Guelph. Cherished grandmother of Chad, Christine, Cory-Lynne, Cullen, Aaron, Bobbie, Dawni, Brandy, Zachary, Shelby, Mike, Matt, Jesse, Lauren, and Rebecca; and great-grandmother of Jack, Hanna, Ocean, Cheyanne, Haley, Quinton, Taylor, and Benjamin. WOLFE, Joseph Edmund
Late in the evening of Tuesday, June 17, at Sunnybrook Hospital. Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Willa TAILOR/TAYLOR, his sister, Sandra EMERSON, and four grateful couples who knew him as both father and friend, Bill and his wife Janice, Charlotte and her husband Gary COOKE, Elizabeth and her husband Garth JOPLING, and Edmund and his wife Liliana. Joe was also the beloved grandfather - a role he cherished - to Laura, Andrew, Sydney and Calum (and a fifth who is on the way, name pending). He treasured being Uncle Joe to Bruce, Brian, and Douglas EMERSON. Joe also had a special relationship with his late uncle, Jack DRENNAN, who's wife Miriam maintained that special bond. During his year-long battle with cancer, all those who knew him were inspired by his perseverance, stoicism, selflessness, and enduring sense of humour. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), on Saturday, June 21st where a Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon. A reception will follow. Died peacefully, at Hastings Manor in Belleville on Saturday July 19, 2008 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Marion. Dear brother of Harold HARRIS and the late Dorothea ARMSTRONG. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Hugh graduated in Engineering from Queen's University in 1947. He retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of Great Lakes Power Ltd. in Sault Ste. Marie in 1990. He had a deep commitment to his family, his community, and his church throughout his life. A great inspiration to her grandchildren: Adam, Jess and Anna, Amy and Craig, Amanda and Joe, Aarika, Robbie, Katie, Brody and Mandy, Tara, Ashley, Scott, Bryan, Lauren, Jimmy, Kevin and Eddie. Of Sarnia, formerly of Saint Thomas, passed away at Sarnia General Hospital, March 6, 2008. Husband of Bonnie ABBOTT, Sarnia. Loving father of daughters Jeanine THYSSEN, Saint Thomas and Linda ABBOTT, Toronto; sons Terry ABBOTT, London, Tom and Cheryl ABBOTT, Brockville, Dan and Daryl ABBOTT, Ailsa Craig, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Dad was born in Saint Thomas on April 6, 1921, son of the late Clarence and Violet (WRIGHT) ABBOTT and brother of Mae EMERY. Also predeceased by daughter-in-law Aileen ABBOTT, sons-in-law Joe HUISMAN and Jack THYSSEN. Dad, in his young years, worked at the Iron Foundry in Saint Thomas; then in Toronto for 18 years. After that he went to work at Westminster Hospital in London until his retirement, after which Dad went to work at Bingo Country, Sarnia for a few years. He then went on to manage a highrise apartment building in Sarnia until four years ago. Dad had always been an avid hockey and baseball fan and he loved life and people. Always loved and forever in our hearts. Cremation has taken place.

Of Chatham and formerly of Wallaceburg, passed away suddenly at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance - Public General Campus on Monday, March 17, 2008 in his 66th year. Wally is the son of the late John Peter and Mary (MEERHAEGHE) VAN KERKHOVEN. Deeply loved by wife Judy (née ROSE.) He will always be remembered as an awesome and loving Dad by his daughters Deb VAN KERKHOVEN, Kelly EMERY and son-in-law Mark EMERY. Proud Papa of Jon-Codee, Tanner, Cassidy and Kyle EMERY. Favorite brother of Harvey and wife Jeannette. Son-in-law of Margaret and the late Harry ROSE. Brother-in-law of Betty and Roy ANDERSON and Carman and Shirley ROSE. Wally loved and enjoyed all his nephews; Steve, Larry, John and Brian VAN KERKHOVEN, Randy and Rick ANDERSON, Darren ROSE and the late Robin ROSE. One niece, Penny (Rose CAMPBELL.) Throughout Wally's 35 years at Eaton Yale, he was plant chairman and an accomplished general foreman of skilled trades. Wally lived for his daughters, grandchildren and duck hunting. VALLERY, Hugh
In his 89th year, passed away peacefully on December 29th. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marjorie, his daughter Linda and husband Ralph EDWARDS of Belwood, and his son Douglas VALLERY and wife Lauree of Toronto. He will be missed by grandchildren Pam, Debbie and Mark EDWARDS, and Braden, Robert, Jacqueline and Ellen VALLERY. Hugh is the brother-in-law of Doris (HUTCHINSON/HUTCHISON) VALLERY of Peterborough, Jean (O'NEILL) EMERY of Ingersoll and Doris (EMERY) RICHARDSON of Anthony, Florida. He is also survived by a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
Hugh was born May 3, 1919 in Peterborough and graduated from Queen's University in 1942 with a Master's Degree in History and an officer's appointment out of the Canadian Officer Training Corps. As a Lieutenant with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, Hugh saw action with the Canadian First Infantry Division, Allied Eighth Army in Italy. He was captured in the fierce fighting south of Ortona in December 1943, and was held as a Prisoner of War at OFLAG VIIIF (Mährisch-Trübau, Czech Republic) and OFLAG 79 (Brunswick, Germany) until 1945. After the War, Hugh served in the Canadian Reserve Militia through the mid-'50, in which he attained the rank of Major.
An active and successful career in public education with the Toronto and Metro School Boards following graduation from Ontario College of Education in 1946, included: teaching at Harbord Collegiate Institute (46-58); head of History at North Toronto Collegiate Institute (58-61); Vice Principal at Parkdale Collegiate (61-63) founding Principal at Monarch Park Secondary School (63-66) Academic Director of Study in Educational Facilities; 66-69. A member of Phi Delta Kappa, Hugh was an Associate Teacher with the Ontario College of Education ('51-'60) also lectured at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education on educational administration. He co-authored two text books: The British Epic (Ontario Grade 9, 1960), and The British Heritage (Manitoba, 1965). Hugh completed his career by serving as Superintendant and Assistant Director of Education for the Metropolitan Toronto School Board from 1970 until his retirement in February, 1977.
Leading up to his retirement, Hugh received recognition and awards for his longstanding contribution to education in Ontario. Hugh was active with the East Toronto Rotary Club through the 60's and 70's. Through active enquiry and contributions, Hugh has played a role in the betterment of several communities including Lake of Bays, Ontario where the extended families enjoyed many wonderful summers together. In retirement, Hugh and Marj also spent winters in Ocala, Fort Myers and Clearwater, Florida. Hugh was an active contributor to Islington United Church through the 50's and 60's and to many worthy charities and causes.
Hugh was a compassionate, private person, a voracious reader until late in life, and an inquisitive student of the rushing events of our times. He was a gentleman, a man of integrity, and a generous, trusted advisor and friend to those close to him.
A celebration of Hugh's life will be held at the York Visitation, Chapel and Reception Centre, 160 Beecroft Road (north of Sheppard Avenue, first street west of Yonge Street), Toronto, 416-221-3404 on Saturday, January 5, 2007 at 11: 00 a.m. Visitation one hour prior with a lunch reception to follow the service.
