Jim Wylie beloved husband of Bev, loving father of Ian and Debbie of Corbyville, Blair of Trinadad, Doug and Judith of Richmond Hill and Mary and Ted DREW of London. Lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Baragar Funeral Home in Bancroft from 10-11 a.m. Thursday followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in London. Born in McKay's Corners, son of the late Lorne and Myrtle (WYLIE) SMITH. Beloved husband of Doris (BRAITHWAITE) SMITH for 46 years. Dear father of Lorne SMITH and his wife Clara of Harwich Township, James SMITH and his wife Cheryl of Harwich Township, and Karen LIBERTY and her husband Frank of Dresden. Grandfather of Jessica SMITH, Rebecca SMITH, Adam SMITH, Matthew LIBERTY, and Christopher LIBERTY. Brother of Helen SCOTT of Chatham and her late husband Doug. Predeceased by her sister Eva ADDLEY. Mrs O'CONNOR was a past president of the C.W.L. and a retired canine obedience instructor at the Kiwanis Senior Centre, London. SARGEANT, J. Sloan
At Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, Ontario, on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the age of 71 years. Sloan will be very deeply missed by his wife Betty (née WYLIE,) his son David and his partner Tracey of Hamilton and their children Teresa, Allison and Nicola, his son Terence of Mississauga, and his brother Tim and his wife Barbara of Toronto. Predeceased by his beloved daughter Cathy. Sloan was born in Kitchener on February 5, 1935 to Earl Sloan SARGEANT and Margaret (BREITHAUPT) SARGEANT. He attended Upper Canada College, and then went on to study civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. After graduation, he worked in the commercial construction industry in project management mainly in the Toronto area, with a few years in Regina, Saskatchewan., until he retired in the early 90's. Sloan was a highly talented hockey player in school and college years, winning many honours. He then turned his athletic abilities to curling and golf, while progressing from hockey player to 'hockey dad'. He was a keenly competitive member of the Dixie Curling Club in Mississauga for many years, and of the Trafalgar Golf & Country Club in Milton.. But the high point of so very many years was the annual '24th of May weekend' on Island B52 in Woods Bay, Georgian Bay, with his longtime Friends, Gar, Bob, Bill and Hub. No women or children were ever allowed. At the wish of his family, no public funeral service will be held at this time. A private memorial celebration will be held this summer to scatter his ashes where the pickerel run in his beloved Woods Bay. With grace and courage, Joan died on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Saint Michael's Hospital from a series of complications following recent surgery. The excellent skills, care and compassion by all of the Saint Michael's staff, our Urban Angels who attended Joan, were outstanding - thank you. Beloved wife for 49 years to her devoted husband and best friend Don. Proud mother of Bob (Jill DODDS) and Martha (Jason MERCER.) Loving grandmother of Stewart and Duncan HILLHOUSE. Predeceased by parents Robert Seabourne HAMILTON and Helen Mary McCULLOUGH. Joan was born in Belleville although she lived most of her life in North Toronto. She graduated from Lawrence Park Collegiate and the University of Toronto (Occupational Therapy). Joan will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her wide circle of Friends, especially Joan WYLIE and Shirley STEWARD/STEWART/STUART, her lifelong best pals. After a short but courageous battle, Muriel Somers, 75, passed away on Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Muriel passed with her three sons, Stephen of Burlington, Peter of Toronto and John of California by her side. Wife of the late Ken SOMERS of Oakville and daughter of the late Lloyd and Hilda BRUCE of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia and sister to the late Enna WYLIE and the late Wallace BRUCE, Muriel is survived by her two sisters Joyce McCRADY and Pauline MacINNES. Beloved Grandie to Stephen's two children, Coleman and Chloe and John's two children, Theo and Eli, Muriel leaves beloved daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Jennifer-Jo. Also known and loved as Moonie by her many family members and Friends, Muriel will be sadly missed. Was born on July 30, 1914, in South Porcupine, Ontario. He passed away peacefully in the morning of January 4th, 2006 with Catherine by his side. He served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve from 1942 to 1945. Began his new career as a farmer on his beloved Ortonwood farm in the Fergus area. C.W. married Catherine in 1983 at the Farm and in 1988 they moved to Ennisclare. C.W. was predeceased by his son John. He will be sadly missed by his wife Catherine, his daughter-in-law Christie and grandchildren Bianca and Geoffrey, and sisters Gwen and Lucille and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service to be held on Friday, January 13, 2006, 1: 00 p.m. at the Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Rd. W. (one block east of Kerr St.).
