Beloved mother of Carmel DOIRON of Mississauga, Paul and his wife Beverley of British Columbia, Betty Lou WYLD of Baden, Dorothy of Callander, Gerald and his wife Becky of Toronto, James of Callander, Daniel of Mississauga, and Carolyn and her husband Tommy of Banff, Alberta. Predeceased by son Leonard and daughters Inez and Lillian. Grammie of 23, great-grammie of 31, and great-great-grammie of Isabel. SWIST, Daniel J. / GALLOWAY- SWIST, Wilda (née GALLOWAY)
SWIST, Daniel J. passed away on January 13, 2005 in Henderson, Nevada. Daniel was born on August 19, 1919 in Manchester, New Hampshire to the late Emilia and Jacob SWIST. He graduated the University of Alabama where he earned a B. S. degree in Business Administration and Accounting. His entire Business School senior class enlisted in the military after Pearl Harbor and he served in the combat infantry in France, Germany and Holland, receiving several commendations. Later, he graduated from the Boston University Law School and began a career in government. He worked in Washington, D.C. for the State Department, the Department of Labor and the Treasury Department's Internal Revenue Service. Daniel married the love of his life, Wilda Ethel GALLOWAY on November 27, 1963. In 1976, he and Wilda retired to Clearwater, Florida and later moved to Phoenix, Arizona. His beloved wife Wilda died on September 1, 1998 and the light went out of his life. He is also predeceased by his sister, Wanda PIEKOS. He is survived by a host of nieces: Sonia-Kay KEIRSTEAD of Tallahassee, Florida; Janie M. RAY of Lowell, Massachusetts; Sheila HATT, Helen SAWCHUK, Edith GALLOWAY, Virginia WYLDE, Wilda MARDLIN, June EDWARDS, Mary Lou DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS, Cathy GALLOWAY, and Dr. Susan Burgess NESBITT, all of Canada, and two nephews also of Canada, Charles BURGESS and Thomas GALLOWAY. A military and memorial service will take place for both Daniel and Wilda SWIST at the National Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona on March 10, 2005 at 1: 00 p.m.

Sculptor born in Wardner, Idaho, on October 14, 1887. After studying art in Europe as a teenager, she attended the Chicago Institute of Art. There she met Florence WYLE, a sculptor six years her senior with whom she formed a life-long relationship. In 1913, they decided to move north and live in Canada. To the Toronto arts community, they became known as "The Girls." Together, they opened a studio called The Church and collaborated on a series of First World War sculptures that depicted women as farm or factory workers. On her own, Ms. LORING executed large-scale sculptures and was commissioned to design war memorials in towns in New Brunswick, Ontario, and at Osgoode Hall in Toronto. Her last large work was the monument of Robert Borden that stands on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Later in life, she and Ms. WYLE moved to Newmarket, Ontario. She died there, a month after Florence WYLE. [see also Florence WYLIE]

Loving mother of Steve, Charlene (husband Stephen SEDGEWICK,) and Karen. Devoted "Nanny" of Leah, Kenny, and Jessica, and a beloved aunt. Dear sister of Kay JOHNSTON, brother John RYAN (deceased) and wife Emily, and cherished daughter of Bill and the late Agnes RYAN of Montreal. Bernice will be fondly remembered by her extended family as well as her gambling, bowling, bingo and baseball Friends. To the Toronto arts community they became known as "The Girls." Together, they opened a studio called The Church and collaborated on a series of First World War sculptures that depicted women as farm or factory workers. In peacetime, she cast likenesses of many of the artists in the Group of Seven. Unfortunately, she did not earn enough to be able to afford bronze, so much of her later work is in painted plaster. She died in Newmarket, Ontario

Born 21 August 1934. Jim died February 8 in Markham Stouffville Hospital after a short but intense fight with pneumonia. His illness was complicated by a chronic lung condition of which we were, blessedly, unaware. Sincere thanks to the emerg. and ward staff. Deepest thanks to the wonderful Intensive Care Unit staff and particularly Debra COLES for making his and our journey easier. Jim leaves his wife, Susan FIELDING; his son, Alex (& Carrie) WYLIE and new grand_son Jack; his son, Brad WYLIE (& Shelley CUNNINGHAM;) his daughter, Beth (& Tom) MacINNIS; and many Friends. His children are hosting a celebration of his life on Fri. February 11 from 5 - 9 p.m. at The Cambridge Club, The Sheraton Centre, 11th Floor, Richmond Tower, 100 Richmond St. W. Don passed away August 6, 2005, after a difficult illness. Don, loving brother and best friend of Ann WYLLIE (Bill deceased,) predeceased by sisters Edna WHITELOCK and Mary McGOWN. His nieces Heather Wyllie and Dawna ROBERTSON were truly devoted to "Uncle Don." Don's greatest treasure was his great-niece Holley ROBERTSON, whom he adored. Uncle to Christine REESE and David McGOWN. Don was a retiree of Ford Oakville and a volunteer for Travellers Aid. His Christian life was evident in his love for people. We wish to thank Irene, Linda, Janice, Lotti, Ena, Jack, Cheuk, Don, Nancy, Bill and so many Friends for their devotion to Don.
