WHITTAKER, Joan
Peacefully, at London Health Sciences Centre (Universi ty Hospital) in London, Ontario, on January 19, 2005 in her 80th year. Deeply missed by daughter Diane WHITTAKER and her partner Barry McCARTHY. Beloved grandmother of Madison McCARTHY. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her dear friend Helen HARSHAW, her ex-husband Walter Leslie WHITTAKER and her brother Maurice McLAREN in England.
Joan had many Friends who will miss her keen mind, her enthusiastic participation in a variety of pursuits and her devoted Friendship. She contributed to the development of many young men and women in her 40 year career as a teacher and guidance counselor, first in England, and then for many years at Winston Churchill Collegiate in Scarborough. Joan enjoyed her membership in several groups of the University Women's Club of North York - Afternoon Duplicate, Table Hoppers, Book Study and Food with Flair and will be missed by many members of these groups. She was also a keen member of the Toronto Ladies Golf Club. Joan enjoyed tending to her beautiful perennial English garden, crosswords, tennis, cooking, golf and spending time with Madison. We wish to express our profound thanks to Juliana TABARIKI, Jackie BROWNING, Jenna GOODHAND, Rose GENDERS and the staff from ComCare who cared for Joan with compassion, love and humour for the past six months. We also wish to express deep gratitude to the nurses on the 7th floor at University Hospital whose loving care will never be forgotten. A special thanks to Breeda O'FARRELL and Dr. Valerie SCHULTZ for their loving concern and compassionate guidance. We are also grateful to Dr. STRONG and all the caring members of the Motor Neuron Clinic Team at University Hospital and the other team members on the 7th floor. Visitation at 1: 00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 24, 2005 at Central United Church, 131 Main Street, Unionville. Arrangements through Chapel Ridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the A.L.S. Society of Ontario would be appreciated.
