MacDONALD, George Melbourne
Died peacefully May 12, 2005 at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of 54 years to Mary (née HAMILTON.) Loving father of Reverend Elizabeth MacDONALD of Sydenham St. United Church, Kingston and Nan HUDSON and Gordon and Patti MacDONALD of North Vancouver. Grandfather of Caitlin, Emily, Allison and Sam. During World War 2, served as a Pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1940-1945 in Alaska, Great Britain and Northwest Europe. In 1948 he began a 30 year career in broadcasting across Canada, moving to Windsor in 1965 as General Manager of CKWW Radio. From 1970-1992 operated MacDonald Associates with Mary, serving such diverse clients as the United Way, Hilton International, the Willistead Restoration Campaign and Art in the Park. Community involvement included service as Chair of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, President of the Windsor District Council Boy Scouts of Canada, Director of the Windsor Essex-County Young Men's Christian Association, the Greater Windsor Foundation, the Greater Windsor Visitors and Convention Bureau, Junior Achievement of Windsor, Goodwill Industries, the Essex County Humane Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Association, St. Leonard's House, Northfields Youth Centre, Crossroads Human Growth Community, Co-Chair of the Windsor Traveling Youth Hostel and a Director of the Children's Regional Centre of Windsor Regional Hospital. Visiting at the Morris Sutton Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 68 Giles Blvd. E. (519-254-8633) on Monday, May 16th from 1: 00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 2: 00 p.m. with the Reverend Doctor Nan HUDSON and the Reverend Paul ALMOND officiating. Following cremation interment of ashes Rosehill Cemetery, Amherstburg. In lieu of flowers, gifts made to the United Way of Windsor or Windsor Regional Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
