Ahead to start of Ontario 1891 films

Census district numbers and census family numbers in OGSPI are always 3 digits long.
We do this so that all links and lists sort properly in the same sequence as the microfilms. Numbers in square brackets like [24151] are the official 1891 population count.

Typing Census for OGSPI
Contact John Allan if you are willing to help type a favorite township census for OGSPI. Laurentian University in Sudbury has the census for all of Canada 1851 1861 1871 1881 1891 plus 1901 Ontario and Quebec. John mails out 11 inch by 17 inch paper hard copy of each 1891 census page so you can type at home with your favorite word processor rather than going to a library and squinting at microfilm. You keep the paper copies.
John can only make copies during the September-April school year when Laurentian Library is open weekends and late in the evenings.

John sends out starter files already set up with district, page, and line number like:

You go down each page line by line, inserting family numbers and typing only the names and details that change line to line:

You then send the revised text file back to John Allan as an e-mail attachment.
John's program expands all the shorthand entry codes, carries SURNAME and repeated info line to line, and sets up cross references so we have:

The general objective is to have a lot of volunteers each typing a favorite township and then we all share the results through OGSPI.
