    Enumerator's remarks column 60 - general remarks: There is a large area of good land for settlement on Trading Lake f the Muskoka, and in the vicinity of the Maganettawa. The entrance to it will be through the Bobcaygeon & wife Nipissing Road. Only four persons except Indians are yet located there. Ere another census, this country will turn out its thousands. Several Indians have houses & wife farms partially cleared on Trading Lake. They raised last year about 450 bushels of potatoes and 15 bus. corn. The corn all got ripe, and had a good yield. I entered the Indians in their own list. Thew had left their houses and gone to hunt. Some had gone to Lake Simcoe. They are the Chippawas whose village is Romah on Lake Simcoe."

These forty nine names were forwarded to me by Mr. McCONNELL & wife only reached me yesterday by mail. The names of only about half their men employed appear to have been forwarded to me. Ire presume the others are in chanties on the Lower Canda side of the Lake. McCONNELL and wife JELLIECOEUR obtain their main supplies by a road cut last summer to Lake Nipissing. They were taken from Chicago last fall and canoed up French River and stored at the East End of Nipissing, and carted to Temiscaming in winter. Mr. McConnell took up about a dozen teams early in March from Ottawa City via the Mattawa to Trout Lake, thence to Temiscaming by the road mentioned."
