In his 89th year, peacefully at Ian Anderson House (palliative
care hospice), Oakville, Ontario, following recent health complications.
George was born in 1919 in Middlesbrough, England. During World
War 2, George earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts
flying with an Royal Air Force Squadron of Canadian built DeHavilland
Mosquito aircraft. After immigrating to Canada following World
War 2, George ultimately achieved the position of Executive Vice
President of Stelco. After his retirement, George continued to
pursue an ongoing passion for world travel, carefully documenting
and photographing his varied experiences. He also volunteered
his time to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and
to Joseph
Brant Hospital in Burlington. Predeceased by his first wife Hilda
(GRAHAM)
LAYT and his second wife Jean
(TOLHURST)
LAYT, he will
be lovingly remembered by his many lifetime Friends, his nieces

many. A most beautiful soul, Angie provided for and found refuge
in a wide range of Friends. Larger than life to those who knew
her, she had a heart that knew no limits. A big thank you to
her caring Friends at the Montreal General and Saint Mary's Hospitals,
and especially to the staff at Saint Mary's Intensive Care Unit.
Viewing will take place Wednesday evening, February 6th, from

of his life in Saint Thomas and was a member of Holy Angel's Church.
He was retired from the Department of Public Works. Tom served
in the Army during World War 2. Resting at Williams Funeral Home,
45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Wednesday morning and then
to Holy Angel's Church where Mass of the Christian Burial will
be celebrated at 10: 00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angel's
Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers will
be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7: 00 p.m.

A private family graveside service took place with burial following
at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener, Ontario where Edel was interred
just 10 months before. Earl was born and raised on the Meaford
Tank Range, moving to Kitchener to drive a bus as a young man,
where he met and married Edel
MINK.
The family moved to Flesherton
in 1961 where Earl purchased a general insurance agency, relocating
to Markdale in 1968. Earl owned and operated Earl G Bumstead
Insurance Ltd. and was actively involved in the Markdale community,
serving on the school board and town council. He was an executive
member of the local Rotary Club and a long-time member of the
Markdale Country Club. He and Edel retired to Kitchener in 1985,
wintering in Florida for sixteen years. Earl's declining health
necessitated his move to long term care and he resided at The
WestMount from 2003 until his passing. Donations were made to
Benton Street Baptist Church in Kitchener and The Alzheimer's
Society.
