Norwich -- Michael
SKOLLY brought love and laughter wherever
he travelled.
The Special Olympian died of heart complications January 22 at
the home of his parents, Don and Heather, in Woodstock. He was
When SKOLLY lived in Norwich, it was a regular occurrence to
see him walking down Main Street poking his head into businesses
just to say hello.
"They always say that it takes a village to raise a child and
Norwich definitely helped to raise Michael," Heather
SKOLLY said.
"We appreciate everyone's help, support and acceptance of Michael."
The SKOLLYs lived in Norwich 20 years before moving to Woodstock
to allow Michael easier access to needed programs.
A few years ago, bowling sparked his interest when longtime friend
Karmelle TAILOR/TAYLOR started a Special Olympic team in Ingersoll.
"Michael didn't care whether he won or lost -- it was all just
about having fun,"
TAILOR/TAYLOR said. "He already had his arms in the
air, all excited, before the ball even made it to the end of
the alley."
TAILOR/TAYLOR met
SKOLLY while working with his mother, and later was
his assistant teacher at Glendale high school in Tillsonburg.
She recalls her friend as a "young man as full of life as he
could possibly could be. He just loved everybody and everything."
SKOLLY's sense of humour brought a smile to many,
TAILOR/TAYLOR said.
"He used to call me and ask if he could kidnap me, I would tell
him I wasn't a kid. He would reply without missing a beat, 'Okay,
how about I old-ladynap you?' "
SKOLLY won a Special Olympics Ontario title in the sport he loved
and went on to the 2006 Canadian Special Olympics in Brandon,
Manitoba
"He was so excited when he won, I'm surprised everyone didn't
hear him,"
TAILOR/TAYLOR said.
SKOLLY flew with the rest of the team to Brandon and met his
parents on the ground.
"I don't think his smile left his face during the whole trip,"
Heather said.
In Norwich,
SKOLLY spent countless hours at the Village Restaurant
and Jean's Coffee Bar, lunching with Friends. He worked a few
seasons at the Fountainview Golf Course.
"He was always doing something with someone somewhere," Heather
SKOLLY said. "We appreciate everyone who touched his life so
much."

SKOROPAD,
Doctor
Raymond
Gregory
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Doctor Raymond
Gregory SKOROPAD on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the age of 73. Ray
slipped away with family at his side. He was the cherished husband
of Linda and the devoted father of Sasha and Mischa. Until his
illness a year ago, Ray was an avid sportsman. Downhill skiing
and riding his horses were his favourite pastimes. He was thrilled
to have been inducted into the University of Guelph's Hall of
Fame as a member of the football team that went to the Atlantic
Bowl in 1959. As a veterinarian, he will be sadly missed by many
patients and their guardians that he served for over thirty years
in Toronto's west end. In accordance with his wishes, Ray has
been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held later
in May. Arrangements entrusted to the Wall-Custance Funeral Home and
Chapel, 206 Norfolk Street, Guelph (519-822-0051 or www.wallcustance.com).
A special thanks to the staff of Saint Joseph's in Guelph for
their care.
We will miss you Raymond. Love, Linda, Sasha and Mischa
