In loving memory of our mother, Margaret
(COPELAND)
(Dec. 31,
2005), our father, James (Feb. 1, 1981) and our brother, Donald
(Jan. 27, 1986).
Our hearts remember
Those days so tender,
When as a family together
We walked through this world.
Though you've gone on before us,
Memories gently restore us,
As you beckon us forward
And our futures unfurl.
Your footprints are tear-stained
By our sadness and grief's pain,
But Earth's boundaries can't contain
All the love and the goodness
You've left us as our guides.
If we walk hand in hand,
And trust in God's plan,
One day we'll again stand
In the warmth of your presence
Safely home, side by side.
- Sadly missed and always remembered by your family.

ROBERTSON.
Dalton

Rhode Island, where his parents lived for two years - returning
to Toronto shortly after Dalton's birth. In the mid-1930s they
moved to live with Duncan
SINCLAIR, the maternal grandparent
- former Member of Parliament and long-time Mayor - in the town
of Harriston, Ontario. Dalton thoroughly enjoyed Harriston, especially
since he co-authored two page-one columns for the Harriston Review.
Honours B.A. University of Toronto 1949, then a year of graduate
work University of Chicago. Department of Labour's economics
and research branch in Ottawa for three years where he created
a magazine for the Civil Service Association of Ottawa and made
many life-long Friends. Then two years in Montreal as associate
editor of Canadian Business Magazine, determinedly en route to
The Financial Post in Toronto where he was taken on staff in
1955 by the brilliant and awesome Ronald A. MacEachern. He soon
ended up with another two regular front-page pieces: an editorial
called The Nation's Business and a Business Outlook column. He
was a fine writer and editor with a good eye for hiring and a
capacity for firing without leaving blood on the floor. He was
associate editor for years, usually also in charge of bureaus,
then, in 1977 executive editor responsible for putting the paper
out. He planned early retirement in France where he bought a
house on the ramparts of a fortified hill village and departed
his job in 1987 mainly because 31 years was enough and a whole
new world in France was waiting. A private graveside service
will be held at the Harriston Cemetery. Friends Brian Wilks and

Born in Toronto on July 22, 1913, Robert married Irene in 1937.
In 1943, the couple moved to Montreal, where they raised their
family, returning to Toronto in 1987. Robert delighted us all
with his passion for jazz and swing music - he was a clarinet
and saxophone player, and performed in Toronto swing bands by
night in the 1930s, while completing Chartered Accountant accreditation
by day. He enjoyed a successful career as chief financial officer
for a major, Quebec-based construction company. In later years,
he and Irene took great pleasure in their cottage on Lake Champlain
in upstate New York, hosting innumerable joyful family gatherings.
His sense of humour, unshakeable optimism at lowering his golf
score 'next time,' and his talent for improvising vivid bedtime
stories are indelible memories. We will always cherish the legacy
of Robert's gracious, gentle and deeply considerate nature.

SINCLAIR was born in Toronto on April 3rd, 1916.
She attended Branksome Hall in Toronto, and spent her summers
in Algonquin Park at Camp Tanamakoon. Muriel had always wanted
to be a nurse and upon graduation she enrolled in the nursing
program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and graduated
with honours.
In 1943 Muriel enlisted with the Canadian Army as a Nursing Sister
with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. She was posted oversees
at the No 24 Canadian General Hospital in Surrey, England. One
of her patients was Major Fred
TILSON who lost both legs in action
and he requested Muriel accompany him in his wheelchair to Buckingham
Palace when King George V awarded him the Victoria Cross.
In 1945, Muriel volunteered to join the Canadian Army of Occupation
in Germany as a nursing sister and was stationed near Oldenburg.
It was here that she met William
OSBURN who was also serving
with the Canadian Army. When discharged in 1946, Bill and Muriel
returned to Canada and were married in Toronto on June 14th,
1947. They settled in West Vancouver, British Columbia and resided
there for many years, raising two children. Upon Bill's retirement
in 1977, they moved to Salt Spring Island, first residing on
Sunset Drive and moving to Brinkworthy Estates in 1990. For the
past two years, Muriel has been a resident of Lady Minto Hospital
and the concern and support of the caring staff has been much appreciated
by the family.
Muriel always enjoyed nursing and was on the staff when Greenwoods
Care Facility first opened. Upon her retirement, she volunteered
with the Thrift Shop and Seniors for Seniors and enjoyed evenings
with Friends at the local Legion.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Bill, in 2004.
She will be held forever in the hearts of daughter Jayne
LAPOINTE
(Raymond,) son Peter
OSBURN and grand_son Garth
LAPOINTE and her
dear friend Wendy
SMITH.
Muriel will sadly be missed and lovingly
remembered by her sister Gwynneth (Ginty)
POWELL, of Toronto,
Ontario and brother Robert (Bob)
SINCLAIR, of Mississauga, Ontario
and their children and families.
A memorial tea service will be held on Friday, May 9th at 2: 00 p.m.
in the ECU Recreation Room of Lady Minto Hospital, 135 Crofton
Road, Salt Spring Island.
Friends wishing to do so may make a donation in memory of Muriel
to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals Salt Spring Island Branch (P.O. Box 522, Salt Spring
Island, British Columbia V8K 2W2) or The Royal Canadian Legion

Trucker killed in crash a Brampton resident
By Joe BELANGER,
Tues.,
May 27, 2008
Police have identified a trucker killed in a fiery crash last
Friday that renewed calls for an end to garbage-packed transport
trucks hauling trash across Southwestern Ontario.
Jagroop SINGH, 31 of Brampton, was killed when his truck, loaded
with trash, slammed into another truck hauling garbage that had
slowed for construction on the Highway 401 in London, between
Highbury Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The other trucker, 33, also from Brampton, wasn't named. He had
minor injuries.
As many as 400 trucks, each loaded with up to of 35 tonnes of
garbage, pass through Southwestern Ontario daily from the Greater
Toronto Area, hauling waste to Michigan landfills.
Over the last six years, crashes involving trash haulers have
been reported almost weekly.
Friday's crash closed the west lanes of the 401 for more than
12 hours, frustrating drivers, especially commuters headed to
and from London, and clogging roadways across the city's south
end.
Area politicians, including Sarnia's Mike
BRADLEY, have called
for provincial action to stop the "cavalcade" of trucks, suggesting
cities such as Toronto should be forced to deal with their garbage
woes within their own boundaries.
Last year, Toronto bought the Green Lane landfill just southwest
of London, which will start taking all the mega-city's trash
in 2010, although five to 10 truckloads a day are already headed
there.
Toronto started trucking its trash to Michigan in 2002, after
years of searching for a solution as its own landfills filled
up and closed.
Other Toronto-area municipalities also truck waste to Michigan.
As more trash trucks hit the highways, Southwestern Ontario has
had to cope with the road frustrations, including jack-knifings,
flaming wrecks, rollovers and garbage spills -- on top of the
pollution caused by hauling the waste hundreds of kilometres
away.
