SPERLING,
Lena (née
PEYSNER)
Early on the morning of June 10, 2008, Lena (Leah)
SPERLING
(PEYSNER,)
daughter of the late Max and Judith
PEYSNER, passed away peacefully,
in her 94th year. She is joining her beloved husband, Sam
SPERLING
(1916-1987). Lena lived a long, productive and satisfying life.
Born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, she arrived in Toronto, Canada,
in 1936 and soon after married Sam. She was a happy, funny woman,
fiercely supportive of her husband and children. She was a challenging
cook and her bread pudding will be missed greatly by her eldest
son, Gerald, though less so by her daughter, Maxine
MONROE and
her "baby," Stephen David
SPERLING.
She was much loved by her
daughter-in-law, Maggie
SIGGINS, her late son-in-law, Shelly
MONROE and her late daughter-in-law, Marsha
SPERLING.
She was
very active in the Royal Canadian Legion, General Wingate Branch.
Her husband served for four years in the Royal Canadian Navy
during World War 2. She was also an enthusiastic member of the
Hebrew Men of England Sisterhood, especially during the years
when Sam SPERLING was president of that congregation. As her
children grew up, Lena took work outside the home, working for
many years at Queensway Electric. She was very proud of her nine
grandchildren: Jody (Jennean), Faith (Jimmy), Sherry (Wayne),
Adam (Alla), Shoshana (Maury), Carrie May, Erin, Daniele (Ryan)
and Amber. Leah is also survived by ten great-grandchildren:
Taylor, Peyton, Cameron, Duncan, Lucas, Samantha, Sofia, Katya,
Henry and Freia. Lena
SPERLING was an exciting and courageous
automobile driver and her almost perfect driving record was a
matter of some wonderment in the family. Services will be held
at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Ave. West, Toronto.
Interment will be at Lampton Cemetery in the Hebrew Men of England
Section, on June 11, 2008. Please check with Benjamin's, 416-663-9060
for precise times. Shiva will be at Maxine Monroe's house, 60 Bruce
Farm Dr., Toronto, 416-590-9671, June 11 to 13. In lieu of flowers,
please make donations to Am Shalom Synagogue, Barrie, Ontario.
