CARDER, John
On Sunday June 22, 2008 at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital with his family at his side. John passed away after a short courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of 47 years to his best friend and soul mate to Doreen. Cherished and devoted father to his children Susan FAKIRA (Charles), Robert CARDER (Kim), Ken CARDER (Iin,) and son-in-law of Sharaz FAKIRA. Loving grandfather and "Poppa" to Velisha SEWCHAND (Ken), Angela FAKIRA (Dave), Andrew FAKIRA (Kelesha), Jarret CARDER and Raihan CARDER. Great-grandfather to Benjamin SEWCHAND. Also survived by his dear brothers, Bill CARDER (Jane), Jim CARDER (Dorothy) and Donald CARDER, and by nephew Matthew CARDER and nieces Lillian and Melissa CARDER. Dear brother-in-law of Judy AERSSEN of Mississauga, Frank AERSSEN (Pearl) Saint Thomas, Oscar AERSSEN (Caro) Cambridge, Jeannette UTTING of Brantford and Ann AERSSEN of Saint Thomas. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by his son Jeffery Scott CARDER (July 5, 1992.) John was a "Bell Canada" employee for 30 years. He retired April 1, 1994. He was a Shedden Minor Ball Coach for 25 years, he enjoyed every minute with the kids. He was the first manager of the new Keystone Complex and served in the capacity for 9 years. He enjoyed meeting and greeting the many people who held weddings, stag and does, anniversaries and other events. He was a member of Shedden Lodge #310 for over 46 years. He worked on the Bingo committee donating to many charities and giving generously of his time when ever asked. To all that knew him his favourite motto was "Let's get it done". "John we will surely miss you" Live, Dream, Laugh, Believe. Resting at Williams Funeral Home 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Thursday morning and then to First United Church (Corner of Curtis Street, and St. George Street, Saint Thomas) where funeral service will be held at 11: 00 a.m. Interment to follow in McArthur Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Oddfellows Members will be conducting a service on Wednesday evening at 6: 30 p.m. at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sunshine Dream for Kids or the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, Tools for Treatment Program.

A resident of Newbury passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Four Counties Health Services, Newbury at the age of 65. She was born in Windsor daughter of the late Elias and Rose VEGH. Beloved wife of Stan CUTLER, loving mother of Sheryl FARRELL (Mark) of Bothwell, Angella COFFEY (Girard) of Bothwell, Nancy LAMARSH (Frank) of Chatham, Joe CUTLER (Tracy) of Glencoe, Dan CUTLER (Rachel) of London, Stan CUTLER Jr. "Buck" (Linda) of Newbury and Tony CUTLER (Marie) of Wallaceburg, fondly remembered by 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, dear sister of Gloria WINIA (Elmer) of Newbury and Rose SEWEDAK (John) of Leamington and special aunt of Donna KAISER. Predeceased by daughter Carolyn Joy, sisters Dolly and Lillian and brother Elias. ALTON, Frederick " Fred" George
Lifelong Markdale resident and respected community leader Frederick (Fred) George ALTON passed away on March 12, 2008 at the age of 78. Visitation was held on March 14 at the May Funeral Home in Markdale. Fred's humour and passion for life were celebrated on Saturday, March 15 at Annesley United Church in Markdale. Rev. Mark R. WAUGH officiated the funeral service. He remembered Fred as a loyal member of the congregation who had the ability to spread laughter throughout the church. David FRIES acted as the Director of Music. Eulogies were given by Fred's daughter Mary Anne, his grandchildren Jackie BURNS, Gracie ALTON, and Sam McKEE, as well as his longtime friend and fellow Rotarian Jerry BARTLEY. Pallbearers were Stan BAKER, Jerry BARTLEY, Carl BENNINGER, Oscar BURNSIDE, Ernie NICHOLLS and Don PLETSCH as well as honourary pallbearers Paul HANERBACH, Erling PEDERSEN and Lloyd SEWELL. Grandchildren Gracie ALTON, Jackie BURNS, Anthony DURKACZ and Sam McKEE acted as flower bearers. Interment followed at Markdale Cemetery. Family and Friends shared their memories of Fred and enjoyed refreshments served by the Annesley Women's Ministry Network in the Annesley Fellowship Hall. Fred was the longest-serving member of the Markdale Rotary Club (49 years) and owned and operated Alton Pontiac Buick for 36 years before retiring in 1998. Fred acted as volunteer firefighter and fire chief for the Markdale Fire Department and attended every Markdale Street Frolic since 1938. Fred was married to his beloved wife Glenora McGEE for 55 years. He was the loving father of Mary Anne ALTON and Andy McKEE of Owen Sound, Glenn and Donna ALTON of Florida and Robert ALTON of Owen Sound. He was a special grandfather of Jackie BURNS and her husband Anthony DURKACZ, Sam McKEE and Gracie ALTON and great-grandfather of Nate DURKACZ. He was predeceased by parents Cecil ALTON and Annie STAPLES, brother Cecil (Sandy) ALTON and sisters Florence PORTER and Ruth BURNSIDE. Donations were made to the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation and Annesley United Church Memorial Fund.

Marjorie Ethel (née MIDDLETON) SEWELL passed away at the Brampton Civic Hospital on Friday, February 15th, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Stanley SEWELL. Loving mother of Janice and Harold GILCHRIST of Brampton. Special grandmother to Renee and Ronald. Predeceased by her parents Albert and Mary MIDDLETON;; her sisters Ada HOOPER and Olive MIGHTON; and her brothers Edward MIDDLETON , Albert MIDDLETON , Wilfred MIDDLETON and Rosswell MIDDLETON . A private family service was held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham. Spring interment will be held at the Durham Cemetery. YATES, William Edward
Of London, missing since January 8, 2008 was found Saturday, March 15, 2008. Beloved son of the late William and Frances YATES of Point Edward, Ontario. Loved brother of Judy (Ken) LAWSON, Barb (Dave) YOUNG, Dawn (Joe) SEWELL, John (Suzanne) YATES, Cathy YATES and Jeff (Bev) YATES. Predeceased by his brother Stephen YATES (1996.) Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bill was born on November 26, 1946 and grew up in Point Edward, Ontario where he attended Bridgeview Public School. Following Bridgeview he attended Northern Collegiate in Sarnia where he graduated with an honors certificate in 1965. He then moved to London and completed his teacher's training in 1966. He went on to complete a B.A. at the University of Western Ontario in 1980 as a part time student. Bill was an excellent elementary school teacher and taught in London at Woodland Heights, Wilton Grove, Aberdeen and Tweedsmuir Public Schools from 1966 to 1996, when he retired. Bill had many other interests but his passion was dogs and obedience training. He had a number of dogs over the years (Kelly, Pal, Guynan, Thorn) and most recently Scout who were as devoted to him as he was to them. Bill became interested in dogs and training soon after he arrived in London. He and Pal competed in Obedience trials beginning in the 1970's. Bill went on to become a member of the Canadian Kennel Club and became an obedience trial judge in 1986. The family would like to thank the many Friends, neighbours and former colleagues who have offered their prayers and concern during Bill's disappearance. The volunteers who searched for him, the police search as well as the fire and rescue, was much appreciated.
