Of Chesley, passed away at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Chesley on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in her 80th year. Beloved wife of Jack. Loving mother of Jim of Chesley. Sadly missed by twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Earl and his wife Doris, and his sister Betty and her husband Jack LIVINGSTON, and his many nieces and nephews. Loving mother of Shirley ZAKY (Safwat,) Doris SEDRA (Adel,) Carol RAMER (Gordon) and Susan ROBB. She was the proud granny of Matt (Leanne,) Emily (Michael), Sarah, Paul and Mark and great-granny to Ben, Evan and Ellie. Family always came first for Marjorie, but she also loved gardening, quilt making and 45 years of volunteer work for York Central Hospital. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by family and Friends. Passed away at the age of 85, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at University Hospital, London of leukemia. Widow of Morley Alfred DUFTON (1983.) Survived by her daughter Lois Anne (Ralph MALLORY 2002) of Campbellford, Ontario. Predeceased by children James Ross (1948) and Marilyn Elaine (1954). Survived by twin sister Madeline (Roy JOHNSON) and her brother John DAY (Irene BROWN.) Predeceased by parents Walter DAY (1990) and Lila GUEST (1995.) She had seven sisters and brothers-in-law in Morley's family with 29 nieces and nephews from both sides. Marjorie's vocation was teaching and her passions were travel and photography. She was a life member of Thorndale Women's Institute and was active in Bethesda United Church Women. She also was a leader of 4-H Clubs and Canadian Girls in Training. She was Queen of the Thorndale Fair several times for her cooking and sewing skills. Marjorie received her Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Western Ontario (1976) while teaching full time. Chaired city and suburban planning boards for London and region. Played a major role in developing Ontario's geography curriculum for secondary schools. First editor of "The Canadian Geographer" and the "Ontario Geography Monographs". Received honorary degrees from Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfred Laurier University) and the University of Western Ontario. In 1987, the University of Western Ontario established the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching awarded each year to full-time members of the faculty of Western and its affiliated colleges. He enjoyed a long affiliation with Freemasonry and was made a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1973 and a member of the Royal Order of Scotland in 1985. In 2006 Ross received his 60 year Masonic pin and his Lewis Jewel in 2007. Ross was the purchasing agent for the former London Board of Education, a long time member of Sunningdale Golf Club and a cottage resident at Bruce Beach. Peacefully and with grace, at home with his family, on June 2, 2008, in his ninetieth year. Predeceased in 2001 by his beloved wife, Catherine (née HOAKEN,) and in 1992 by his dear sister, Sheila. He takes with him on his last journey the love and gratitude of his children, David (Brenda,) Elaine (Maj. Chris McLEAN,) and Caroline, and their families. Our father was born in Greenwood, British Columbia, to Joseph J. McLOUGHLIN, M.A., of Cloghere, Co. Mayo, an itinerant schoolmaster and missionary, and his wife, Margaret (née BINGHAM,) the daughter and sister of a family that left Co. Roscommon to homestead in Ontario and Saskatchewan. He served as an artillery officer from 1943 to 1945, joined Ontario Hydro upon graduating as an electrical engineer, and was a valued designer of power protection systems until his retirement in 1984, after which he was recruited for several projects on a consulting basis. We would like to express our appreciation to Dr. John VU, Allison RIDDELL, R.N., and the rest of the palliative care team at Durham Access to Care, and in particular to Jean RAMLACKHAN and Ed SAMONTE for helping our father enjoy his final months in the ease and comfort he so thoroughly deserved. A memorial service in celebration of his life will take place at St. Dunstan of Canterbury Anglican Church, 56 Lawson Road, Scarborough, at 11: 00 a.m. on Friday, June 6. Much loved husband for 67 years of Jean MacARTHUR (née STANSAL.) Dedicated father to Rod MacARTHUR and his wife Jill and father-in-law of Debbie MacARTHUR. Brother of Eve BARRETT (née MacARTHUR.) Proud grandfather of Trevor, Kristiana, Tory and Erin MacARTHUR and great-grandfather of Vrindavani and Chanelle. Special uncle to Joan ABBOTT, numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Bradley Phillip MacARTHUR. Os was a founding and lifetime member of the Sydenham Sportsmen Association. He was dedicated and passionate about preserving the environment and improving the local fish habitat, receiving many awards for his contribution of over 50 years to improving the fish habitat in this area. He was chosen Canada's top Conservationist in 1984 by the Canadian Wildlife Federation and was inducted into the Mitchell Canadian Fishing Hall of Fame. He also received the National Recreational Fisheries Award in June of 2006 from Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Charlie died unexpectedly in Saint Paul's Hospital in Vancouver surrounded by his family. He was a generous father, friend and colleague. He left the British Columbia Forest Service in 1988 to found Pacific Regeneration Technologies a forest nursery company. He is survived by Sue, his wife of 45 years, children Tom (Heather RAMSAY) of Queen Charlotte City and Karen (John STEPHENSON) of Yellowknife, grandchildren Robin JOHNSON of Kamloops and Niva, Linnea, Sarah and Gord Stephenson. He is also survived by his sister, Claire SHAW of Sidney, and brothers, Ken JOHNSON of Whiterock and Bob JOHNSON (Betty) of Sidney and numerous well loved cousins, nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to Vancouver Island Cancer Clinic or University of British Columbia Faculty of Forestry (Loon Lake Research Forest). Died June 17th in Kingston, Ontario where her devoted daughter Cindy ensured that her final years were made comfortable. Claire was the loving daughter of Harold and Clara (SUTTON) REID of Montreal. When Claire grew up in Quebec higher education was a luxury only the affluent could afford. She was sent to secretarial school and then to work at an early age. However, this did not deter her from reading widely, developing a love of poetry, and learning everything she could. Indeed, Claire was a quick and able student who easily mastered anything she set about to learn, whether it was playing bridge, dancing, or learning to speak French. Later, her children came to depend upon her ability and strength of character. They rightly felt that she could do anything - and do it with loving kindness and grace. She could make clothes, hats, upholstery, draperies, pottery, all with her characteristic beauty and elegance. Lucky recipients treasured her hand knit sweaters as one of a kind works of art. Claire was an exceptional and sophisticated cook, who also had flawless taste in interior decorating; she could turn an ordinary room into a beautiful, cozy oasis. Although Claire had a quick and lively wit, she never criticized people or said an unkind word about anyone. She was always cheerful and loved fun as she made everyone feel happy and welcome while she provided endless hospitality. Her husband, Ralph, who died in 1969, often said that the luckiest day of his life was the day he met Claire. She is survived by her three adoring children, Deborah CAMPBELL (David) Fredericton, New Brunswick, Cynthia McKEGNEY (Brian) Sydenham, Ontario, and Ian ROSS (Cheryl) Toronto, and her five beloved grandchildren, Kate and Neal McKEGNEY, Ross CAMPBELL, and Madeleine and Evan ROSS. Also surviving are her three sisters, Mabel ADRIAN, Jessie REESE and Shirley RAMSAY for whom she was a loving sister. She also helped raise two step-daughters, Ruth LEVY and the late Mary KELTON, who were grateful for her compassion and generosity. She was the brilliant, shining light of our lives and we treasure her memory. In keeping with Claire's wishes, cremation will be followed by a private family service. Joan and her family enjoyed many years at the family cottages in Wasaga Beach, Muskoka, Temagami and Diamond Lake in Bancroft. Her life long Friends Beverly Borg and the "Golden Girls" spent many special Saturdays together over the years. Donations to North York General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
