LOCKING, Howard Elgie
Howard Elgie LOCKING passed away peacefully in Hanover, at the age of 80.
He is survived by his loving wife Stella LOCKING. Loved father to daughters Sharion and her husband Carl SEARLE of Kitchener and Linda and her husband Wallace MILLER of Elmwood. Father of Julia VAN DER AA and husband John of Mitchell, Fred LOCKING and his wife Bonnie of Arthur, Percy LOCKING, Donna and Cathy. Stepfather to Sheila HOFFMAN and Don HOFFMAN. Loving and proud Papa of Carey and her husband Chris BRUBACHER of Moorefield and Karen and her husband Jamie RAFTIS of Moorefield. Grandfather of Derek CHERREY, Tanya POL; Nicholas LOCKING, Mark LOCKING and Kristopher LOCKING Brenda MILLER of Hanover and Tammy and her husband Todd HARRIS of Owen Sound. Loved "Big-Papa" to his great-grandchildren Brooklyn COPLAND and Zackary BRUBACHER. Great-grandfather to Savannah, Daria and Cohen POL; Audric CHERREY and Cameron, Emily and Gabrielle HARRIS. Remembered by sister, Leona HERMAN of Hanover. Will be missed by Shirley and Wayne LACKENBAUER of Kitchener. Predeceased by his siblings Melvin, Roy, Hazel and Verna and one daughter, Shearle, and grand_son Dan MILLER.
Howard was born in Hanover on March 4, 1927, being one of six children of George and Annie (NEWTON) LOCKING. He loved animals and outside of farming spent his younger years in trucking and construction business. He was an avid horse lover, owning many, and was a familiar face around the local racetracks.
A time of remembrance will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover on Friday, January 18, 2008 from 10 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Hanover Cemetery.
In Howard's memory, expressions of sympathy to the Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Society were appreciated.

At Strathmere Lodge on Sunday, March 30, 2008, Lillian Jean POLAND of Strathroy and formerly of Sarnia in her 90th year. Predeceased by her parents James CAMPBELL and Cicely CAMPBELL (CAVERHILL) predeceased by her sisters Florence BAZELEY and Beatrice CAMPBELL and her brother Gordon CAMPBELL also predeceased by her nephew Paul BAZELEY. Fondly remembered by Laurie BARR, Michelle OWEN and several cousins. Funeral and committal services will be held in the Denning Bros. Funeral Home, Strathroy on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 2: 00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia at a later date. An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 1: 30 p.m. Lillian was a past District Deputy Grand Matron of District #2 Order of the Eastern Star. Donations to the Strathmere Lodge or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Lillian.

Predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Pota, and his son-in-law George POLETES. Survived by his six children, Toula POLETES, Jenny (Don SAUNDERS), Lloyd (Ann), Angie (Peter TRAIFOROS), Terry (Dianne,) and Joanne (David THRING.) Also survived by his 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Papou will be remembered for the love for his family, his strong work ethic, his passion for his native homeland and especially his olive farm in Sparta. Prior to his illness, he was planning yet another trip to Greece. Visitation Tuesday, January 29 from 5-9 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Home, 50 Overlea Boulevard. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather Giuseppe "Joseph" BOZZO on February 28, 2008. Joseph was a much loved and loving family man. Reunited in Heaven with his father Andrea, and sister Gina. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 42 years, Ida (POLICCIARDI.) Forever cherished by his four children: Andrew (Adriana DI PENTIMA,) Wanda (Albert IMBROGNO,) AnnaMaria (Christopher BIS,) and Nadia. Proud grandfather of: Joseph, Michael and Robert BOZZO, Saverio and Luca IMBROGNO. Survived by his mother Maria, brother Patrick (Francesca), sisters Flora (Prospero - predeceased), Rita (Franco), Frances (Herman), brother-in-law Santo, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joseph loved birds, dancing, music, gardening, and revelling with his Friends. His restless spirit never allowed him to Eng idle for long, and he was happiest helping others in various fundraising efforts throughout his various careers. He will be remembered for his generosity and integrity by his family and Friends. His courage and dignity never showed itself more clearly than in the last year of his life. We wish to extend our warm appreciation to the staff and doctors at the Toronto General Hospital, the Princess Margaret Hospital, the William Osler Health Centre Palliative Care Team and the Central Community Care Access Centre Team. Predeceased by 3 sisters Annie, Madeline and Hildegarde and by 3 brothers Joseph, John and Albert. Sadly missed by 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Expanse, Saskatchewan on September 27, 1916, the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Hermina PAUWELS) LIMACHER. She has lived in Saint Thomas since 1946 and was a member of Saint Anne's Church, the Catholic Women's League and the Resurrection Choir. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas until Monday and then to Saint Anne's Church where Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 17th at 10: 30 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels' Cemetery. With family at his side. Retired educator, Toronto Board of Education (1932-1977.) Husband of the late Nellie POLLARD. Companion of the late Yvonne BRAND. Loved companion of Marlies EHLING. son of Thomas MONKMAN and Jane ROLINSON of Yorkshire, England (both deceased). Brother of Anne, Jessie, Stanley and Edward (all deceased). Father of Neila (Lem) and Lance (m. Lynn). Grandfather ("Gumpa") of Kim, Paul, Carl and Shannon. Great-grandfather ("G.G.") of Kirk, Kyle, Dana and Owen. Harry was an inspiring and irrepressible rascal who astonished us all with his passionate love of life. Immense thanks to the palliative care team at Penetanguishene General Hospital, and to Doctor Richard THOMAS. Although Harry had donated his body for research at the University of Toronto, they have gratefully declined. After cremation, a private celebration of life.

STRANGE, Judge H. Hazen (1939-2008)
Judge H. Hazen STRANGE passed away peacefully on May 14, 2008, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Heather, adored daughters, Elizabeth and Jenny, brother, Bobby (Peggy,) nephew Robbie (Kimberley,) niece Kyla POLLARD (Carl,) sister-in-law Barb BUCKLEY (Robert), Aunt Mary COPP and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, H. Hazen STRANGE, Sr. and Marion STRANGE, and brother, Colin Bruce STRANGE. Although born in O'Leary, Prince Edward Island, Hazen spent most of his life in Fredericton. His life was filled with achievements including many distinguished awards. He holds BBA, B.A. and BCL degrees from University of New Brunswick and began his law career after being admitted to the Bar in 1964. He spent time in private practice and worked in Ottawa for the 1967 Centennial Commission before returning to Fredericton in 1967 to become a prosecutor with the province of New Brunswick. He was appointed Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions in 1969 and became Director in 1971. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1978. Hazen was appointed to the Provincial Court of New Brunswick in 1981. He worked initially in Burton and later in Fredericton and enjoyed travelling around the province to hear cases. He loved his time serving as Chief Provincial Court Judge from 1987-1997. He continued on the bench until his sudden passing. Hazen was a true gentleman. He treated people with fairness and respect and was highly regarded by those in his profession. His love for his work was secondary only to his love for his family. In his spare time, he was an avid salmon fisherman and storyteller. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. A celebration of Hazen's life will be held Tuesday, May 20th at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton. Cannon T.A. Smith and the Very Reverend Keith Joyce will officiate. Donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program. The family wishes to thank all of those involved in caring for Hazen over the last few days of his life. The family of Les BROWN are saddened by his death on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Toronto Western Hospital. Les was born in New Liskeard, Ontario, on November 8, 1918, the fifth child of George BROWN and Annie SAVAGE formerly of Sheffield. His family were survivors of the Temiskaming fire of 1922. Les attended Public and High School in New Liskeard and graduated from Queen's University in 1943 with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. He served in the Royal Canadian Engineers in World War 2. His working career was with Ontario Hydro head Office. Les is survived by his wife Louise POLLEY whom he married in Toronto September 29, 1945, and two children, Linda REID (Pierce,) Toronto; and Ken BROWN (Kathleen,) Peterborough; and five grandchildren, Ian REID (Joelle,) Toronto Heather REID, Toronto; Fraser BROWN (Julie DEFOY,) Gatineau, P.Q.; Seth BROWN (Sara,) Toronto; and Liam BROWN, Toronto. Also survived by three sisters, Jessie CONNELLY, Newmarket; Lily BEATON, Orillia; and Jean BOND, Barrie; and sister-in-law Lilias PALMATEER, Peterborough and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings George BROWN, St. Catharines; Anne FARROW, Penetanguishene; and Sid BROWN, Agincourt. In 1966-67 Les and Louise built two cottages on Wolf Lake and the forty years he worked and sometimes relaxed there were the best years of his life. He took early retirement and he and Louise moved to a new home in Cavan in 1976, returning to Toronto in 2003 to live in Christie Gardens. Cremation and private interment will take place. A Memorial Service will be held on April 5th at 11 a.m. at Kingston Road United Church, 975 Kingston Rd., Toronto. Visitation will be before the service and a time of fellowship and lunch will follow. Don retired as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Boyle Division of American Home Products Corporation (now known as Wyeth). He was a former Chairman of the Board for 17 years with Queensway Hospital, past President of the Rotary Club of Etobicoke and a Paul Harris Fellow. Don also was past Commodore of the Port Credit Yacht Club, and was a member of Lambton Golf and Country Club and Smyrna Yacht Club in Florida. Tony passed away peacefully with family at his side at Markham Stouffville Hospital on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, 9 days before his 91st birthday. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ethel, and son Donald. Dearly loved father of Toni (Barb) ASHTON (Mrs. Robert MORRISON,) Rory (Vicki,) Kirk and daughter-in-law Valerie. Adored Poppa to grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan, Kara and Alex Polson, Meredith and Courtney ASHTON. Born in Winnipeg in 1917, Tony was a hardworking, good-humoured, loving and charitable man. A golf enthusiast, he was a caddy at 10 years of age, later becoming a golf pro in his twenties. During the war, Tony met Ethel in the airforce and was a gunnery instructor for the Royal Canadian Air Force flight training school, stationed principally at Virden, Manitoba. Post World War 2, Tony and Ethel began what would turn into a long life of love, happiness and adventure. Together they raised an active family and cleared land at One Island Lake to build a camp/cottage for family summers of swimming, boating, berry picking, water skiing, saunas, and bonfires. Tony worked for WH Marr and later became a senior officer, director, and significant shareholder of Vulcan Machinery and Equipment in Thunder Bay. He travelled to mining/logging locations in Manitoba, Northern Ontario and the U.S.A. Tony volunteered with the Boy Scouts of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Pacific Animal Therapy Society, and helped teach introductory golf to young people. He was an early proponent of the Fred Sgambati Golf Tournament. In his retirement years, Tony and Ethel travelled overseas, wintered in Hollywood Beach, Florida, and settled in British Columbia Tony enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, and handcrafts. He made golf clubs, wood carvings, playhouses and a Victorian dollhouse. He was a master of the 2x4. He enjoyed singing a few lines of an old favourite when the moment struck and always had a story at hand to tell. The family wishes to thank Sunrise of Unionville for their wonderful care.
