Died peacefully on January 18, 2008 surrounded by his family.
Doug was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on January 29, 1917. He
was a Lieutenant in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and saw
action in France in World War 2. He was critically wounded during
the Allied breakout from Caen to Falaise. During his prolonged
hospitalization he was nursed to health by Norah
MALLANDAINE,
a Nursing Sister in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps at
North Camp near Farnborough, England. They later married in 1948 and
enjoyed 57 years of dedication and companionship. Doug graduated
from Queen's University with a B.Com. in 1948 and subsequently
worked as a Chartered Accountant for Alcan until his retirement
in 1981.
He is survived by his four children, Doug (Debbie), Jim (Nancy),
Mary (Ron), Ann (Mike); his ten grand children; his sister Marg
O'BRIEN; and pre-deceased in 2005 by his wife
Norah.
Doug will
be dearly missed by all.
A private family memorial service was held in Brampton, Ontario.
A celebration of his life, for his Friends and his family, will
be held in Amherst, Nova Scotia at a later date.
