MacASKILL,
Dorie (née
MOYLE)
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Dorie, on April 8th,
2008 during her 83rd year. She passed away peacefully at the
Saint_Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto and is survived by her
beloved husband Bain, their loving son Blake, daughter-in-law
Tracey, granddaughter Sloane and foster son Kevin. In accordance
with Dorie's wishes, a private funeral was held on Thursday April 10th
and an informal gathering of relatives and Friends will be organized
to take place during early summer. Dorie had many passions in
life. Her love of travel and meeting interesting people took
her on a 2 year worldwide working vacation in 1964. She also
accompanied and assisted her husband in his business consulting
assignments in various developing countries, as well as several
Aboriginal businesses in Canada. Dorie loved travelling so much
she became a travel consultant and enjoyed many memorable trips,
particularly the Galapagos Islands. Other highlights included
many visits to Florence, Italy (her favourite city) and Milan,
where she and Bain caught a performance of 'MacBeth' at La Scala.
More recently, Dorie and Bain, along with Blake and Tracey, enjoyed
a 3-week driving trip through Switzerland, Germany and Austria,
where she was greatly impressed by the Vienna Opera House. Dorie
had been an active member of the Toronto Symphony Volunteer Committee,
since 1979, as well as other worthy charitable organizations.
Another of her favourite pastimes was her involvement with several
congenial bridge clubs. Although always on the go with her charitable
work, there was also time to enjoy the Toronto Arts scene as
well as travelling abroad with Bain. Dorie felt most contented,
however, enjoying the beautiful view from their home overlooking
the Humber ravine and spending time with her granddaughter Sloane,
who brought her so much joy over the past 7 years. Dorie thoroughly
enjoyed life and recently declared that she had seen and done
just about everything she ever wanted to see and do. She touched
many lives and will be deeply missed by her wonderful Friends
and family. In lieu of flowers, Dorie preferred that a donation
be made to the Toronto Symphony or to a charity of one's choice.
Our close personal friend, Robert Coffey, very kindly provided
the following poem: Gone from my Sight I am Standing upon the
seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning
breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty
and strength and I stand an watch her until at length she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down
to mingle with each other. The, someone at my side says: 'There,
she's gone!' Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She
is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she
left my side; and just as able to bea her load of living freight
to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not
in her; and just at the moment when someone at my side says:
'There, she's gone!', there are other eyes watching her coming
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout - 'Here she
comes!'. And that is dying. Henry Van Dyke
