STEWARD/STEWART/STUART,
Frances
Alma (née
CARSON)
Frances Alma
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART, beloved wife of the late Neil
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART,
passed away peacefully on January 24, 2008 at Extendicare Halton
Hills, in her 99th year. Frances was born on December 6, 1909 to
Walter and Minnie
(MacLEOD)
CARSON on the family homestead just
outside of Dundalk on the Backline, Proton. On September 13,
1930 she was married to Neil Glenford
STEWARD/STEWART/STUART of Shrigley.
Neil and Frances lived on the Stewart family farm from the time
of their marriage until 1944, at which time they purchased the
nearby farm of Robert
BAILEY where they remained until 1969 when
they moved to Dundalk in retirement. Neil and Frances worked
side-by-side and were well respected farmers in the area.
During that period, Frances and Neil were active participants
in the Agricultural Society in Dundalk and together they received
an award that acknowledged their contribution. In 2000 Frances
received a 30 year certificate for her volunteer service in the
community.
Frances was also an active member of the Maple Valley Women's
Missionary Society and in 1969 she received a life time achievement
certificate and pin. Members of the Women's Missionary Society
remained in contact with Frances throughout the remainder of
her life.
Frances loved Dundalk and was a well-known and well-loved contributor
to the people of the town. Her delicious cooking and her generous
nature made it common place for those who were unwell to receive
a full chicken dinner for the family or her very delicious date
squares or pie.
Frances and Neil had celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary
just prior to Neil's passing, December 31, 1996.
Frances is survived by grand_son, Donald
BERRY of Edmonton and
Linda BERRY of Georgetown, by great-grandchildren, Dawn and Andrew
of Edmonton and
by Melissa, Rhonda, Janice and Nadine, all of
Alberta, and by a number of great-great-grandchildren also living
in Alberta. Frances was predeceased by daughter, Helen
DELORES
in 1987 and by grand_son, Neil
BERRY and brothers Ivan and William
CARSON and sisters-in-law Edna and Mary
CARSON.
In May 2003 after a period of ill health, Frances moved to Extendicare
in Georgetown, where she became a much loved resident and she
received constant care and loving attention of nursing/care-giving
staff. Upon arrival she was reconnected with her childhood nickname
of 'Frankie'. Staff spoke often of her great character and nature
and of her desire to continue to do things for herself, which
she continued to do until the final week of her life. While Frances
moved to Extendicare almost five years ago, her heart remained
solidly in Dundalk and she always enjoyed her calls and visits
from family and Friends who offered some 'news' of her beloved
town.
The funeral was held on January 29, 2008 at the McMillan and Jack
Funeral
Home,
Dundalk. Long-time friend, Rev. Willis
HUNKING
was the officiating minister and was capability assisted by his
brother, Clarence's granddaughter, Denise; who also beautifully
sang three favorite hymns. Acting pallbearers were Jack, Bill
and Brad CARSON, Rick
MARCH, Joe

pallbearers included Therese Haverty
