GLOWA,
Julius
Paul "
Paul"
Passed away peacefully in his 94th year on February 19, 2008
in White Rock, British Columbia. Paul was predeceased by his
deeply beloved Juanita, his spouse of 49 years who died on January 30,
1992, by his sister Alice (Paul)
LEHANKY and by his brother Eugene
(Olga). He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
and by many dear and adoring neighbours and Friends. Uncle Paul,
as he invariably became called by all he met, was an intellectual,
a poet, a keen wit and the kindest and gentlest of gentlemen.
He was born on July 12, 1914 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and raised
in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1933 at age 19, he was introduced to
farming when his father bought a piece of prairie just south
east of Edmonton and hired him and his brother Gene to turn it
into a farm. In 1937 he left the farm to return to school, but
the farm never left him, as he never strayed far from the soil
thereafter. In 1941 he graduated as a chemical engineer from
the University of Alberta and became Chief Chemist for the Athabaska
oil sands project in Fort McMurray, Alberta. In 1945 he joined
Texaco Canada Inc., where he spent the rest of his career, working
in Montreal and Toronto and rising to General Manager of Operations
for Texaco's refineries group before retiring in 1979. In the
spring of 1980, he and Juanita moved to their retirement nest
in the west, where he adamantly remained for the rest of his
days. He retained a deep abiding interest in religions and all
facets of medicine and science, has had farms in Ontario, experimented
in breeding new strains of gladiola and wine making and cultivated
orchids, to name just a few of his hobbies. Throughout his life,
he strove to maintain a purity of spirit and, with grace, warmth
and an impish sense of humour, bring joy to all he met. At Uncle
Paul's request, there will be no service. Those who wish to make
a donation might consider Camp Alexandra at Crescent Beach, British
Columbia.
