Of Wiarton passed away peacefully at Gateway Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in his 72nd year. Dear father of Mitchell (Tania) McCULLOUGH of Sauble Beach, Patricia WHITTAKER of Toronto and Patrick LAVALLEY of Winnipeg. Special grandfather of Rebecca, Mitchell Jr., Joshua, Luke, Jacob, Jessica, Christina, Jennifer, Andrea, Jonathan, Patrick Jr. and Jessica as well as 5 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by brother Cliff and sisters Isabell and Bonnie. William was predeceased by his wife Lorene, parents Lottie and George McCULLOUGH, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation will be held at the Maadookii Centre, Cape Croker Indian Reserve on Friday, July 25, 2008 from 2: 00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Maadookii Centre on Saturday, July 26th at 11: 00 a.m. Rev. LAVELLE, Doctor Philomena
Phil died peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Toronto Grace Hospital after a brave and inspiring seven year struggle with cancer. Her untimely death at the age of 55 leaves a void in the lives of those who love her, including: her husband Colin LIPSON; her sister Mary and her brothers Peter, Frankie and Louis, and their families; and her many Friends. Phil was a physician at Humber River Regional Hospital for many years. We will all treasure memories of her love, Friendship, kindness and humour. LEIGHTON, Thomas Swinburne
(December 12, 1921 to January 20, 2008)
Tom passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Grand River Hospital, Freeport Health Centre in Kitchener, Ontario, in his 87th year, following a bravely borne and lengthy illness. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Doris, his daughters Anne (Eric LAVENDER) of Kitchener, Helen (Andrew MAXWELL) of Mississauga, and his son, Stephen of Mississauga. Tom is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Robert and Katherine LAVENDER, and Alexander, Nicholas and Emily MAXWELL. Tom is also survived by his sister Stella KELLY, his sisters-in-law, Marie GUEST and Isabel THORNTON, and many nieces and nephews in England. Tom was born in Seaham Harbour, England. He served in the British Merchant Marine (Blue Funnel Line) during the Second World War during which he survived a torpedo attack which sank the ship on which he was serving. Tom joined Lloyds Register of Shipping in 1949, and lived and worked in many countries during his tenure. He was their Senior Principal Surveyor for Canada from 1969 until his retirement in 1986, and will be well remembered in the marine community. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24th from 2: 00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4: 30 p.m., at the McKersie Kocher Funeral Home, 114 Main Street, Milton, Ontario. Please join the family for a celebration of Tom's Life at the Grand Chalet Banquet Hall, 324 Steeles Ave. Milton. The family requests no flowers. Peacefully on January 3, 2008 at Central Park Lodge in her 91st year. Eileen loving daughter of the late John BRADLEY and the late Lillian LAVERY. Beloved sister of John, Sr. Claire, C.S.J., Sr. Helen, C.S.J., and Ruth CAROLAN and her husband the late Jack. Predeceased by her brothers Gerald and William BRADLEY. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and 8 great-nieces and nephews. Eileen enjoyed 40 years as librarian, first at the University of Toronto in the library of the faculty of dentistry, then subsequently in the medical science library until her retirement in 1982. Peacefully at the Empress Kanata on Monday, April 14, 2008, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Minerva McCALPIN and father of Steven, Roy (Patricia,) Cathy (Joey LAVIGNE) and Dave (Erica), grandfather of Erin, Adam, Meg, Patrick, Dana, Myles, Iain, Ellen and Anne and great-grandfather of Jason and Blake. John served as Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force 1941-45 and was held as a Prisoner of War 1944-45. He graduated from Queen's University in Civil Engineering, class of 48½, and had a long career as a professional engineer. At his request there will be no funeral service. Passed away peacefully on June 12, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. Predeceased by Wilfred James LAVIGNE almost seven years ago after being married for 44 years, Paddy leaves three sons, Mark (Kim), Greg (Patricia) and Todd, and four grandchildren Amalee, Maggie, Hunter and Keegan. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Southlake Regional Health Centre, York Central Hospital and Sunnybrook Medical Centre for their wonderful and compassionate care. As well, the visits and condolences by Friends and family have been greatly appreciated. Of the community of the Sisters of Saint_Joseph of the Diocese of London, died peacefully on April 21, 2008 at the residence of the Sisters of Saint_Joseph. Sister was in her 93rd year and 65th year of religious life. Lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Audrey LAVIN of Windsor, neices, nephews, Friends and the Sisters of her religious community. Predeceased by her parents Joseph LAVIN and Catherine (SHANAHAN,) brothers Edmund, Leo, John, Glenn, Patrick, Thomas A. and sisters Catherine, Marjorie, and Eileen. Sister spent over 30 years as an educator in Windsor, London and Sarnia. Following retirement from teaching, she was in ministry to the elderly at Marian Villa in London. Many will remember Sister Anna Catherine for her strong faith, keen wit, and ongoing interest in life. All services for Sister will be held at the residence of the Sisters of Saint_Joseph, 485 Windermere Road, London. JORDAN, James Sidney
Died peacefully on June 8th, 2008 at 89 Years of Age. Born February 13, 1919 at 3: 17 p.m. at Wellesley Hospital Toronto to Doctor Dennis and Marguerite JORDAN, he is survived by son Dennis and wife Cathy of Huntsville; son Jamie and wife Meg of Huntsville, and daughter Mary and husband Carl of Toronto; by his grandchildren: Dennis, Patrick, Andrew, Megan, Benjamie, Sarah and Jordan; and by 3 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Evan and Jadon and almost by a 4th, James, due any day. He is pre-deceased by his first wife Margery Elizabeth, neé GERALD, whom he loved more than words can say. Prior to graduating from Upper Canada College, he was expelled from Public School for 'accidentally' tossing a lit firecracker into his Principal's hair. In 1939, he set aside pre-med studies at U. of T. to enlist in the Royal Canadian Air Force Trained as an Observer he was stationed in England. In 1940 he and his entire crew survived a 25 mission tour. They volunteered for a 2nd tour on condition they remain intact as a group. He spent the remainder of the war training pilots in Canada. After the war Jim built and ran a resort in Huntsville called Ski Jump Inn until it was expropriated in 1977. Jim was a faithful Rotarian who attended his last meeting only 2 weeks ago with the help of his loyal friend Bill McDONNELL. He was President of the club in 1961 and most proud of leading Rotary's creation of the Pioneer Village. He was a school trustee in his beloved Stephenson Township; President of the Hospital Board an elder at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church; President of the Muskoka Housing Authority; President of Muskoka Tourism Board and founder and President of the Huntsville Poker Club. He was an active member of the Liberal Party of Canada gaining the nomination in 1962 for Parry Sound Muskoka. Hugh MacKenzie referred to Jim as "The Senator from Stephenson Township". After the Inn was expropriated, Jim became a Real Estate Agent ending up at Royal Lepage and going on to become President of the Muskoka Real Estate Board. Larry Ireland, Gary Smith and Debbie Renton were loyal Friends last visiting him only days before his passing. Jim was a wonderful husband, a good father, a loving grandfather and astonished to be a great-grandfather. He believed in service to others and was famous for his marvelous sense of humour. In lieu of flowers, Jim would want donations to be made to the Toronto Power Wheelchair Hockey League, c/o Carl LAVOIE, CBRE, 2001 Sheppard Avenue E., Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario. M2J 4Z8. Visitation will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home in Huntsville on Wednesday, June 11th from 4 until 6: 30 p.m. The funeral will be held at Trinity United Church, Huntsville on Thursday, June 12th at 11 am.
