KOROS,
John, C.A.
Suddenly and peacefully, following a lengthy illness, at the
end of strawberry season, on 07 July 2008, in Ottawa, Ontario,
in his 78th year. Born 16 June 1931 in the village of Vyrava,
Medzilaborce, Czechoslovakia (now Slovak Republic). Arrived Toronto
in 1939, spent the war years in Burlington, Ontario with the
ANDOGA family, his cousins. An only child, he later attended
Parkdale Collegiate in Toronto, where his lifelong love of football
and the Toronto Argonauts was born. Following the death of his
father, a furrier, the late George
KOROS, in 1952, John began
working toward his C.A. with McDonald Currie and Co., and cultivated
his love of golf at the Chinguacousy Country Club, eventually
earning a handicap of seven. Audits of Newfoundland mining companies
were among his favourite assignments from this period. He married
Stella Vera
ZELINSKY on 04 June 1955. After obtaining his C.A.
in 1960, he worked as Chief Financial Officer for a small firm
before joining the Office of the Auditor General of Canada in
1965. In 1967, Canada assumed responsibilities as the United
Nation's External Auditor; under the direction of Auditor General
Maxwell Henderson, John played a lead role over several years
on the Canadian audit team, and he absolutely loved the work,
the people, and the travel. After moving to Ottawa from Toronto
in 1973, his favourite audits were of Canadian International
Development Agency and
IDRC, and in the late '80s he returned
to New York to work with colleagues in the internal audit section
of the United Nation Development Program. He retired in 1992,
after 27 years of service with the Office of the Auditor General.
In retirement John enjoyed the weekly outings, camaraderie, and
community service related to the Riverside Kiwanis Club. Over
34 years resident in Kanata, Ontario, John and Stella were active
in the Horticultural Society, the Kanata Sailing Club, the Family
Enrichment Association, and were long time season ticket holders
at the Kanata Theatre. John's other loves included a good joke,
the sound of big band orchestras, Stella's cooking, the Leafs,
and the cause of all people on the planet knowing themselves
as brothers and sisters in the common experience known as 'life'.
And he never, ever, ever spared any effort in doing what he thought
was best for his family, tirelessly devoting his life to his
widowed mother (the late Mary
KOROS, died 1982,) his wife, and
his sons and their families. John is survived by Stella, his
sons Paul and Michael (married to Lucia) and his cherished grandchildren
Marie and Nicholas. Cremation. Arrangements c/o Tubman Funeral
Homes, Ottawa. A memorial service will be held in Ottawa in early
August. Please contact Michael or Paul, or email jkorosmemorial@gmail.com

KORTE,

Patricia left us peacefully at Saint_Joseph's Hospital, Guelph
on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. She was the beloved wife and partner
for 49 years of the late Donald MacCoull
KORTE of Cambridge,
Ontario and proud mother to Christopher (Marjorie) and Carl (Judy),
and grandmother of Paige and Cole. Pat's academic pursuits began
at the Emma Willard School in Troy, New York followed by undergraduate
studies at Russell Sage College and culminated in a Master's
Degree in Political Science from Syracuse University. Pat's thesis,
based on U.S. constitutional law, presaged a lifelong interest
in American and Canadian politics. She was active in the U.S.
civil rights movement and was a supply teacher in inner city
schools. Pat and Don immigrated to Canada in 1967 to seek a more
peaceable way of life after Don's Korean War service and the
unfolding tragedy of the Vietnam War. Pat raised their children
and continued to teach, eventually becoming the first Program
Coordinator for the Centre for Educational Disabilities at the
University of Guelph. Pat and Don were inseparable and began
retirement life together by pursuing a shared interest in Canadian
history, antiques and travel. An avid letter writer, Pat was
passionately engaged in what she perceived to be social injustices
and things that struck her as 'not right.' Pat was a proud Canadian
who loved her family, her books, a nice glass of wine and any
cat who crossed her path. She will be deeply missed. Heartfelt
thanks to the compassionate team in the 'Apple Blossom Neighbourhood'

SASS-
KORTSAK (1986.) She was
born July 19th, 1921 in Budapest, Hungary and immigrated to Toronto
with Andrew in 1949. She channelled her deep knowledge and love
of Italian language, art and literature into a career as a librarian
in Fine Arts book selection at the University of Toronto. She
and Andrew opened their home and hearts to many Hungarian refugees
in 1956 and, in succeeding years, were gracious hosts to many
good Friends and colleagues at their Mt. Pleasant Road home.
She loved the beauty of nature and art; she was unfailingly elegant.
We counted on her to know how to handle gracefully any situation,
and to answer all manner of Latin, grammatical and linguistic
questions. She was much loved and respected by all who knew her.
Loving mother of Peter (Hilda,) Andrea and Christina (Chris
GREEN.)
Much loved and devoted Nagymami to Melanie and Daphne
SASS-

She will be deeply
missed by her brother and sister-in-law, Zoltan and Claire

in Toronto and her sister Emmy
JANOSSY in Budapest, and their
families.
We are grateful to her devoted caregivers, who made it possible
for her to live in her home over the past several years.
The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home -
A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue
East) from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 26th. A Funeral Mass will
be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 432 Sheppard Avenue
East, Toronto, M2N 3B7 on Friday, June 27th at 10: 30 a.m. If
desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
