DARKES, Frances Adams (née BATSON)
On Saturday, April 19, 2008, passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Loving wife of Joseph for 51 years. Much loved mother of Lois DARKES; Paul DARKES and his wife Linda, Joan HOY and husband Matthew and Alan DARKES. Predeceased by her parents Doctor Lois BATSON and Doctor Harold BATSON. Dear sister of Joyce PETTIGREW of Otterville, sister-in-law Jean DARKES of Tilbury and Margaret COLLEDGE of Cambridge. Beloved grandma of Abbey, Alexander, Adam, Aaron and Amy. Fran was an active, long-time member of Trillium United Church (formerly Saint Paul's United) of Cambridge employing her creative talents in the choir and United Church Women. She was a graduate of Toronto Western Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed spending time with Friends and family at their cottage. Special thanks to Cambridge Memorial Hospital Medical Daycare Staff and most recently Elaine and Pat. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cambridge Memorial Hospital Daycare Center or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at Trillium United Church, 450 King St. E. Cambridge on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11: 30 a.m. Luncheon to follow. Passed away peacefully at home in Goderich on Friday, May 2, 2008, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Rowena Martha (HARTWICK) HOY. Loving father of 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and brother of 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Predeceased by one daughter and his parents. Friends may call at the Bethel Pentecostal Assembly, Suncoast Dr., Goderich on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. Private family interment Colborne Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2: 00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, where the funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 3: 00 p.m. Cremation and interment of ashes, Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. (March 26, 1929-May 6, 2008)
"Life Is Good"
Surrounded by love on May 6th, 2008 Joan left her dearest family children Gary (David,) Diane CÔTÉ (née HOYLE,) Doug (Andrea,) beloved grand_sons Sean and Drew COTE, and loving companion Tony SKAE. Also, devoted brother Bill CHAPLIN and his wife Jean, and their children Brad, Alison and Jennifer, whom auntie Joan adored.
Joan grew up in Toronto, Ontario, raised her family in London, Ontario and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1980. She had a multitude of Friends and co-volunteers especially from Christ Church Cathedral, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Canadian Cancer Society. She enjoyed travelling, music, theatre, bridge and crossword puzzles. She will be long remembered for her sparkling conversations and vibrant personality. Joan and her family want to extend heartfelt appreciation to all the Angels at Marion Hospice and Saint Paul's Hospital. Donations to either if desired.
A Celebration of Life for Joan will be held Thursday May 15 at 1 p.m. at The Fish House in Stanley Park, Vancouver.

At Summit Place in Owen Sound Wednesday afternoon May 14, 2008. Clancy WARK of Owen Sound formerly of R.R.#1, Shallow Lake (Minto sub-division) in his 85th year. Beloved husband of the late former Dorothy LAKE. Loving father of Diane and her husband Ken KIVELL of Owen Sound, John and his wife Tami of Calgary, Alberta and Carol and her husband Simon BARNES of Paris. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Ken and his wife Cathy KIVELL of Chatsworth, Rick KIVELL of Owen Sound, Aleshia ANDERSON of Lockport, New York, Chad WARK of Calgary, Officer Cadet Michael HOYT of Hamilton, Officer Cadet Daniel HOYT of Saint_Jean Sur Richelieu, Quebec, Sarah and Liam BARNES both of Paris and four great-grandchildren Faith and Anthony ANDERSON of Lockport, New York and Grace and Jack KIVELL of Chatsworth. Friends called at the Downs and son Funeral Home, Hepworth Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be conducted from the Shallow Lake United Church Saturday morning at 11: 00 a.m. with Rev. Ted DAVEY officiating. Interment Boyd Cemetery, Shallow Lake following cremation. Memorial contributions to the Shallow Lake United Church, Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association would be appreciated as your expression of sympathy. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6 Owen Sound held a memorial service at the funeral home Friday afternoon at 1: 45 p.m. Messages of condolence for the family are welcome at www.downsandsonfuneralhome.com. CAMERON, William Maxwell
Died peacefully in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 4, 2008. Dr. Cameron's vision and leadership were instrumental to the growth and development of oceanography in Canada. As well as playing a major role in establishing the Department of Oceanography at U.B.C., he oversaw the establishment of the institute of Ocean Sciences and the Canadian Centre of Inland Waters and was one of the founders of the Bedford Oceanographic Institute in Nova Scotia. In 2004 he was named as a Member to the Order of Canada. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (HOYT) CAMERON, his beloved daughter, Robin CRAIG (David,) his daughter-in-law, Cheryl HAWKES- CAMERON and his grandchildren; Patrick, Rachel and Nicholas CAMERON, Andrew and Lorna CRAIG and Sean PATENAUDE and brothers; Drs. Donald, Lorne and Gordon CAMERON. He is predeceased by his first wife, Lorna I. CAMERON (BINGHAM) and his son, William Lorne CAMERON. At Doctor CAMERON's request, there will be no service. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice.
