Of Tobermory suddenly at the Peninsula Family Health Team facility
in Tobermory on Friday, March 14th, 2008. The former Lillian
Jean RUSSELL in her 89th year. Devoted wife of the late John
Peter ZIMMER (1998.) Lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law
Ted ELLIOT/ELLIOTT; sister-in-law Pauline (Mrs. Harold
FIDLER;) nieces
nephews; and many Friends. Predeceased by her parents Bert and
Mary Anne RUSSELL; her brother Walter; and her sister Helen
ELLIOT/ELLIOTT.
Jean worked as a Registered Nurse for over 32 years; and was
the pipe organist at the Settlement Church and Tobermory United
Church from 1975 until 2004. She was proud to belong to the Tobermory
United Church United Church Women, and Happy Harbour Club. At
Jean's request, Friends are invited to call at the Thomas C.
Whitcroft Funeral Home and Chapel, Sauble Beach (519) 422-0041
on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 for visitation from 2: 00-4:00 and
7: 00-9:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Jean's life will be conducted

Lynn TRAINOR,
Professor
Emeritus of Physics, University of Toronto,
died April 30th in Toronto. Born December 4th, 1921, Lynn grew
up on a farm in Chamberlain, Saskatchewan, attended Moose Jaw
Normal School, and taught school in Valor, Saskatchewan. Following
undergraduate studies in physics at Saskatchewan, he completed
a PhD at Columbia and Minnesota in nuclear physics. His distinguished
career included work at National Research Council Canada and
professorships at Queen's, University of British Columbia, U
of Alberta (founder of Theoretical Physics Institute), and University
of Toronto (from 1963). In the 1970s Lynn began research in theoretical
biology and was cross-appointed to the Department of Medicine.
Lynn enjoyed an active retirement teaching, writing, and travelling.
He loved his drives across Canada to his second home on Saltspring
Island, British Columbia. Throughout his life Lynn was committed
to a wide variety of issues including education, peace, human
rights, and the environment. In the 1970s he served as trustee
and chair of the North York Board of Education. He was involved
with Science for Peace, Pugwash Canada Toronto Montessori, Environmental
Health Association and many other organizations. His warmth and
enthusiasm for living and learning touched the lives of family,
his many Friends, colleagues and students. We are all grateful
for his caring, supportive Friendship. He will be greatly missed
by his wife

marriage to Helen

HARRISON; and grandchildren
Matthew, Emma, Jeremy, and Aaron. He was a much beloved brother-in-law
and uncle to his extended family. A celebration of Lynn's life
will be held at Victoria College Chapel (91 Charles St. W.) on
Tuesday May 13 at 11: 00 a.m. with reception following. In lieu
of flowers, donations in his memory may be given to Science for
