STAPLETON,
Arnold
Grieve
Joined his wife
Helen (née
PRESTON) and soul mate of 49 years
on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Born August 2, 1918 in Stratford,
Ontario, he is survived by his second wife
Mary
MacLEOD, brother
Bill, brother-in-law Hugh
SHORTILL, children Joan
BOXER
(Richard,)
Jeff
(Patti,)
Diana (Bill
TAILOR/TAYLOR,) and Arn (Peggy.) Grandchildren
Sarah, John, Todd, Marley, Preston and Katie will sorely miss
their Poppa. Uncle Arn leaves giant shoes to fill in the lives
of the many Stapleton/Preston relatives spread throughout the
world. As corporate lawyer (having graduated from Osgoode Hall
in 1950), Director of Personnel and chief labour contract negotiator
for General Motors of Canada over a 29 year career, A.G. was
the youngest director in the company's history. His was the voice
of reason - the calm amidst many a storm during one of the most
challenging eras in the United Auto Workers/General Motors contract
evolution. Many said that Arn's unique ability to compartmentalize
complicated concepts won over both union foes and management
associates alike. He was able to maintain composure by utilizing
a wonderful sense of humour centered around a quick wit and well
placed one-liners. A man of few words, when he spoke, people
listened. An English scholar (Words Are Important!), a history
and travel buff, a Wagnerian connoisseur, a lover of opera and
Shakespeare and one heck of a bridge and chess player, Arn was
a 50+ year subscriber to the Stratford Festival (his second most
favorite place after the family cottage at Inverhuron Beach).
Always willing to give his ample talents to worthy causes, Arn
served as Chairman and long time director of the Oshawa General
Hospital, board member of both St. Andrew's Church in Oshawa
and First-St. Andrew's United Church in London, and was a member
in standing of the Law Society of Canada. In the words of his
beloved Shakespeare -"to thine own self be true". A celebration
of Arn's life will be held at First-St. Andrew's United Church,
350 Queens Avenue at Waterloo, London on Saturday, January 5
at 1: 00 p.m. Reception to follow. Cremation and Spring interment
at Avondale Cemetery, Stratford. Memorial contributions to the
Heart and Stroke Foundation, 633 Colborne Street, Suite 150,
London, Ontario N6B 2V3 would be gratefully appreciated.

On May 8th, 2008, her 88th birthday, surrounded by family, passed
away peacefully, at home. Nancy, treasured wife of Dick, for
64 rich and wonderful years, beloved mother and mother-in-law
of Richard and Joan
BOXER,
Shelagh and Christopher
TAILOR/TAYLOR and
Jeffrey BOXER and Nancy
FLANDERS.
Adored grandmother of Sarah,
John and Todd
BOXER, and Ryan, Patrick and Jeffrey
TAILOR/TAYLOR.
Cherished
sister of Gina
LAMB
(Reverend
Bill
LAMB) and predeceased by her
sister Kathleen
WOODS and her brother Graham
BAKER. In addition,
Nancy will be missed by her companion Mila
VILLOTE, who provided
her compassion, help and love during the last six years. Born
in 1920, in Toronto, Nancy attended Bishop Strachan School, Cheltenham
Ladies College (United Kingdom) and the University of Toronto
(Pi Phi), where she majored in child studies. She taught briefly
before joining the navy (Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service)
and served on the east coast until the war ended and she returned
home to Toronto. An example for all, Nancy lived life to the
fullest. Warm, gracious, informed -- she always had a kind word
to say about everyone. Thoughtful, charitable, forgiving -- she
was a devout Christian as her church and faith played an important
role in her life. Nancy always devoted her life to her family
and Friends. For her efforts in supporting her community including
the Garden Club of Toronto, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Toronto
Hunt, the Order of St. Lazarus, and many other organizations,
she was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal for public service
in 1977. A private family service and interment will be held
at Saint Paul's Church and the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A memorial
service to celebrate Nancy's life will be announced in this paper
later. For those wishing to honour Nancy's life in a material
way, donations to Evangelical Medical Aid Society, Box 820, Station
Main, Stouffville, Ontario L4A 7Z9, would be appreciated.
'The smile of our dear Nancy will be missed in her person, but
her memory will live in our hearts until we meet again'
