COPELAND, Hugh Alexander
Age 87, of Mississauga, passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Born December 25, 1920, in Proton Station, Ontario to the late Hugh and Margaret Elizabeth (STEWARD/STEWART/STUART) COPELAND. A retired dairy farmer, Alex was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. Alex loved life, travel, wintering in the south, playing cards, hockey (playing and watching) and spending time with Friends and family. Alex was active in the community, having served as an elder for the former Meadowvale United Church and as a trustee for the Toronto Township School Board. Alex served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War 2. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Alma HARDY and Addie KNOX; brother, Robert COPELAND; nephews, Bruce COPELAND and Jack KNOX. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Isabel; son, Larry (Lisa) COPELAND of Columbus, Ohio grandchildren, Laura LEE (Jamie,) Nicole, and Kelly; great-grand_son, Connor Copeland BLICKER; niece, Eleanor HUTCHINSON/HUTCHISON of Dundalk nephew Keith COPELAND of Toronto. Family will receive Friends 2-4 p.m. followed by funeral at 4 p.m. Friday March 14th at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to Streetsville United Church, 274 Queen St. S., Mississauga L5M 1L8, Ontario.

At University Hospital on July 12, 2008, Wilfred L. BLIER, age 92 years, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Beloved husband of Ethel (Harris) BLIER. Dear father of Elizabeth BROWN (Michael) of London, Ontario, Richard (Sonya) of Victora, British Columbia, and Ron (Brenda) of Victoria, British Columbia. Dear brother of Doreen BOCHSLER of Hamilton, Ontario. Also survived by granddaughters Kristyn and Melanie and five great-grandchildren. Dear brother-in-law of Elizabeth SMITH (Vern) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Ron HARRIS (Ruth) of White Rock, British Columbia. Mr. BLIER was a lifetime member of Norwood Lodge #119 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons in Winnipeg, past President of the Kiwanis Club of Fanshawe, London, a Veteran of the Canadian Air Force and longtime employee of Westinghouse-Lamp Division. A Memorial Service will be held at the Logan Funeral Home, 371 Dundas Street (between Waterloo and Colborne St.), on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 2: 00 p.m. (Visitation from 1-2 p.m.). Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in the family plot in Winnipeg. Beloved wife of the late Michael J. ROWE. Dear mother of Susan J. VAN TINE of Hamburg, New York, Doctor Fraser F.R. BLISS of Finland, Douglas G. BLISS of New Brunswick and Michael J. ROWE of Brockville. Mrs ROWE is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Sister of Mrs. Jane W. REEVES. Predeceased by a son David A. BLISS, brother's Donald C. Suddenly she passed away at East General Hospital on April 22, 2008 in her 80th year of diabetes and heart complications. Predeceased by husband Rowland PHILLIPS in 1995. Cherished by her dear children Patricia RITCHIE (Alex), Barbara THORNE (Doug), Jo-Anne BLIZZARD (Jim), Michael PHILLIPS (Tina), John PHILLIPS (Amey), Gary PHILLIPS (Linda) and Ricky PHILLIPS (Marina.) Sadly missed by her eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road (between Eglinton and St. Clair Ave. East) on Friday, April 25, 2008 from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place in the chapel Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 9 a.m. Ruth's final resting place will be at Pine Hills Cemetery.
