McLEOD, Phyllis Elizabeth (née LUCAS)
Age 85, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on April 27, 2008 in Vernon, British Columbia. Phyllis will be dearly missed by Bruce, her loving husband of over 60 years, and her four sons: Ian (Pauline); Kevin (Jean); Roderick and Robert. She is also survived by 5 cherished grandchildren: Sarah REHILL (Shawn;) Kathleen ETHERINGTON (Marc) Heather ARDRON (Brad); Duncan McLEOD; Jenna McLEOD; 5 great-grandchildren: Tristan, Gavyn, Ava, Mersaia and Gwendolyn; sister: Doreen McMILLAN (Ken); brothers: Gordon LUCAS, David (Margaret) LUCAS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan and following a brief stint working for the Australian Consulate in Washington, D.C. during the war, she and Bruce settled in London, Ontario where they raised their family until moving to Vernon in the late 1980's. Phyllis was an avid reader of fine literature, but was comforted most through regular reading and devotion of the scriptures. In her quiet moments, Phyllis entertained herself and others by playing all time popular music of the 40s and 50s on her piano. Phyllis had a quick wit and was a formidable and hilarious player of Scrabble. She was a devoted wife and mother to the very day of her passing. We are all very thankful to have been blessed by her sense of care and love. The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the caring staff of Vernon Jubilee Hospital and to the excellent care provided by her physician, Doctor David Naismith. Friends and family are planning a celebration of Phyllis' life to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers and other tributes, people are encouraged to make a donation to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101 - 32 Street, Vernon, British Columbia V1T 5L2. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Vernon Dignity Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
