KNOX,
Nanci▼
Jean▼ (née
DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS)
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nanci
Douglas KNOX (née Nanci Jean
DOUGLAS/DOUGLASS.)
Born▼ on October 1, 1929
in London, Ontario. Nanci died in her home on April 22, 2008
after a courageous battle with cancer. Nanci was a multi-talented
woman. An accomplished artist, she studied under several members
of the Group of Seven at the Banff Centre of Arts, and as a singer,
her love of jazz took her touring throughout Ontario and the
eastern United States. As a young mother she modeled to help
support her family and in the later years, applied her art training
as an interior designer. Nanci was also an avid sailor and was
one of the few women who could handle a 31' sloop solo. Her 20
plus years at Cathedral Bluffs Yacht Club were some of her happiest.
Nanci volunteered extensively at the Variety Club of Ontario,
Tent 28, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the ACT. Nanci had
a great sense of fun and enjoyed traveling, especially with her
mother. She loved to entertain and cook, and ultimately, was
a woman with great taste and lot of class. Lucid until the end,
she was always very politically aware, a maverick and a single
parent of 3 children. Nanci's flair and dynamic personality will
be dearly missed by all her Friends and family. She is survived
by her sister Peggy
McKILLOP, and her children Scott, Kirk and
Morgonn, who all share her artistic talent, along with her grandchildren,
Ashley, Julia and Ryley. Many thanks for the support of the Community
Care Access Centre, Spectrum and the Temmy Latner Centre for
Palliative Care for helping to honour our mother's wishes to
live at home until the end. Nanci's memorial will take place
on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, from 2-6 p.m. at McDougall and Brown
Funeral Home (Scarborough Chapel), 2900 Kingston Road, Toronto,
Ontario, 416-267-4656 (E. of St. Clair, N Side). A formal burial
will take place on May 3, 12 noon at Woodland Cemetery, 493 Springbank
Dr., London, Ontario. 519-471-7450. Donations can be made in
Nanci's name to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care at
the Mount Sinai Hospital or Community Care Access Centre.
