Dear father of Jim WHITSON Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Sarnia and Mary PHILLIPS in Australia. Loving grandfather of Corey WHITSON and his wife Janice and Andrea KOZIOL and her husband Adas of Sarnia and Timothy PHILLIPS and his wife Melanie in Australia. Great-grandfather of Paul and Julie WHITSON, Anna and Anderson KOZIOL. Brother-in-law of Margaret NUTTALL of Lindsay, and Ina WHITSON of Windsor. Also survived by several much loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by 5 brothers Jake, Ray, Roy, Clifford and Leo WHITSON, a sister-in-law Barbara WHITSON and a brother-in-law Pat NUTTALL. Born in Dresden, Mr WHITSON had resided in the Sarnia area for over 50 years. He was retired as an Industrial Arts Teacher with the Lambton County Board of Education. He was a member of Liberty Lodge #419, Chatham Lodge of Perfection., Order of the Eastern Star, Sarnia Chapter #6, and the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #113, Dresden. Visitation will be held at the D.J. Died suddenly on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Born in 1929 in Scotland and raised in Alberta, he was ordained a minister of The Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1957. He was called to congregations in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario where he cared for God's people with courageous pastoral heart. His ministry included work on numerous church committees and in 1989 he served as Moderator of the 115th General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. He was named Minister Emeritus, Glenview Presbyterian Church, Toronto. A committed church leader, he worked faithfully for denominational strength, ecumenical breadth and community integration. His contribution extended to service organizations. He loved to read, he loved to sing, he loved his family. Harrold was loved by his wife Jeanette MacDONALD; daughters Mary JESSE (Howard) and their children John and Christeen, The Reverend Jean MORRIS (Matthew VYSE,) Jo MORRIS (Graham PELAT) and their son Ian; step-daughters Tracey METHVEN (David NEALE) and their son Timothy, Nicole METHVEN (Paul SMITH) and their children Cameron and Hannah. He is predeceased by his wife Morag MacRAE, and his sisters Jessie MacKAY, Agnes REINHART and Jean WHITT. Joe, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at People Care, Tavistock. Loving father of Helen and Gord McDONALD, Josephine and Stewart DAVIS, Bob WHITTAKER and friend Sheila, David and Bonnie WHITTAKER, Chuck and Leanne LONGHURST, Shawn LONGHURST, Don and Lis LONGHURST, Trevor and Linda LONGHURST. Sadly missed by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Loving companion of the late Betty LONGHURST who predeceased him on October 26, 2007. He was also predeceased by his grand_son Randy DAVIS on January 13, 1985, parents George and Emily, sisters Gladys, Mabel, Myrtle, Ethel, Florence and brothers Garnet, John and Alex. Joe was a longtime crib league member. He also enjoyed Friday nights at the Culliton hockey games and was often found sitting and cheering at National Stadium. At Credit Valley Hospital, on a Sunday morning, John died peacefully, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Virginia (Ginny) and beloved father and father-in-law of Nancy and Tony VETTESE, Kelly▼ and Andrew FALLS and sadly predeceased in 1978 by his son John Gary. Grandpa will be missed by his adored grandchildren Rebecca and Stephen, Gregory and Scott. He was the dear brother and brotherin-law of Dorothy WOODHOUSE and the late Bud, Doctor William J. COOKE, Norma▼ WHITTEKER and the late Don, and the late Helen and Ron WILKINSON. 'Uncle Jack' also leaves many wonderful memories with nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. John's career began with the Northern Miner in 1956. He had been Vice-President and Assistant General Manager of Northern Miner Press Ltd when he was appointed Publisher of The Northern Miner in 1989. After 42 years with The Miner, John retired as Publisher and in true mining fashion never really retired but remained as a consultant keeping his lifelong ties with the Mining community. The Miner and staff, past and present, have been one of the great interests and joys of his life as has his affiliation and contributions towards the success of The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. He has received recognition by his peers over the years from the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and most recently an award from the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He was an active Past President of the Engineer's Club, now the Ontario Club and a man who was both respected and loved in the mining circle. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Credit Valley Hospital for their care and support. The family will receive Friends from 2: 00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday March 16th, 2008 at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville (905) 844-3221. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and many Friends. Predeceased by sister Effie HALBERT and Olive CARGO. The family will receive Friends at the May Funeral Home Markdale Thursday June 19, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a memorial service will be held on Friday June 20 at 1 p.m. Interment of cremated remains in Markdale Cemetery. DRESSER, Gerald Allan
Of Leamington, formerly of St. Clair Beach, born 23 October 1917, died in his sleep 23 July 2008. Predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Helen Jean (BAUMAN/BOWMAN,) parents, Ivan and Cora, and sister, Dorothy. Gerry is survived by sons, Alan (Aileen), Robert (Nadine) and Mark (Bruce), granddaughters, Blythe, Justine, Alison, Katherine, Jocelyn, Alexandra, and his girlfriend, Kathy DAROWSKI. He will be greatly missed by family and Friends. Gerry served in the Essex Scottish Regiment during World War 2 as a Training Officer and was severely injured in an explosion, the consequences of which he endured throughout his life. Wounded and bleeding, Gerry assisted others first, saving a private's life, before being treated himself. On return to Canada, Gerry was involved in the chemical and metals industries for most of his career. He organized the Porchlight Fundraising Campaign, which led to the establishment of the University of Windsor. He was an active member of the Windsor Curling Club, Beach Grove, the American Society of Metals, the Moramos Shrine, AKO Fraternity, Border Cities Lodge, Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs and the Stroke Recovery Association. An avid golfer and curler, Gerry greatly enjoyed life boating and fishing on Lake St. Clair, golfing at Beach Grove, entertaining Friends and family at his Pike Creek home of forty years, and contributing to the several service organizations he had joined throughout his life. He was a long-standing member of the Tecumseh United Church. Visitation at the Reid Funeral Home, 14 Russell Street, Leamington (519-326-2631) on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to celebrate Gerry's life at the Leamington United Church, 9 John Street on Monday 28 July 2008 at 10 a.m. Rev. Sharon WILLIS- WHITWELL officiating. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Leamington.
