With sadness, we announce the quiet passing of Michael Gillis HALL at his home in Toronto on March 28, 2008. He is survived by his cherished and loving wife Phoebe Kathleen (WHICHER,) sons Michael and Greg, daughters-in-law Lynne and Heather, his grandchildren, Lori, Alexandra and Scott, and his sister Madeline DRISCOLL. He will be greatly missed by the HALL and WHICHER extended families and his Friends. Michael lived his life with a positive outlook. His was a glass that was always half-full. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24 at Thompson House, Toronto, in her 95th year.
Beloved wife of the late T. Wallace DENIKE. Cherished mother of Judith (deceased,) Gerry DEANIKE (Mary-Anne) and Janice EICHNER (Karl). Dearest Nana to Robin and Jeffrey DENIKE, William and Pamela DEANIKE and great-granddaughter Charley DENIKE.
Aileen▼ was predeceased by her brothers, Gordon and Maurice WHIDDEN and her sister Ruth BEARD. Sorely▼ missed by best friend Gladys HOUCK, sister-in-law Greta WHIDDEN and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces in Canada and the U.S. She had been a resident of Thompson House for 16 years and enjoyed many dear Friends and an active social life to the end.
An accomplished singer and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Aileen gave her time, talents and heart to those she loved, her church and her community.
The family is grateful to the caring staff at Thompson House. Donations in Aileen's memory to the Don Mills Foundation for Seniors would be greatly appreciated.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3 at the Donway Covenant United Church, 230 The Donway West, Toronto. Private interment.

Wonderful father to Christopher, his wife Michelle and their children Keaton and Javin AMBRIDGE of Toronto, Kathy TAILOR/TAYLOR and her son Matthew of Sarnia, Geoffrey AMBRIDGE and his wife Christine of Port Perry. Beloved brother to Edward (Ted) and his wife Sandra of Ottawa. Uncle to Samantha AMBRIDGE of Ottawa, Donald AMBRIDGE of New Westminster, British Columbia, Scott AMBRIDGE currently in Australia. Son-in-law to Mary WHIFFEN of Thunder Bay. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Winona AMBRIDGE. Dave was a graduate of Carleton University (Ottawa) as a professional engineer (mechanical). On Thursday, January 31st at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in his eighty-third year. Dear husband of Lois (WHILLANS) and very beloved father of Alex, Jane and John. He will also be greatly missed by his sister Elizabeth Mayo and all her family as well as many nieces and nephews.
Peter was born in Ottawa on July 23, 1924 son of E.F. NEWCOMBE, K.C. and Jessy NEWCOMBE and grew up in Ottawa. He was educated at Ashbury College, then McGill University. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. After graduating from Osgoode Hall, he joined the law firm of Gowling, MacTavish, Watt, Osborne and Henderson in Ottawa, now Gowlings LLP, where he carried out his litigation practice and mentoring, for fifty years. He was a life-time member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, a member of the Advocates' Society, a Fellow and past provincial Chairman of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and a member and past President of the County of Carleton Law Association.
He was very actively engaged in working with his community and charitable organizations, including the Victorian Order of Nurses, the John Howard Society, the United Way, the Council of the Village of Rockcliffe Park and its School Board, and the Ashbury College Board of Governors.
His favourite activities included his time at the cottage, sailing on Grand Lake, and cross-country skiing in winter. His lifelong love of history, the law, and his whimsical sense of humour manifested itself in many lively conversations with family and Friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday February 6th at 11 a.m. at St. David and Saint Martin Presbyterian Church, 444 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa. At University Hospital, London, on Saturday April 26th, 2008, George R. DRISCOLL of London in his 84th year. George is a cherished husband and best friend to Verna (WHIPPS) DRISCOLL. An irreplaceable father and teacher to his children Douglas (Lori), Nancy, Kathy (Mark) and David (Trish). Also an unforgettable and loved Papa to his grandchildren Angie, Alana (Mike), James, Shaun, Tammy, Biz and Becky (Mighty Mite) and his great-granddaughter Maren. George was a veteran of World War 2 and proudly served the HMCS Huron as an (underage!) chief petty officer. George was a well respected entymologist, an amazing card player, and had an enviable green thumb. At George's request, a private family service was held on Sunday April 27th. George meant everything, after all these years, what else could he mean George will be indescribably missed by his family, Friends and his queen bees.

Devoted grandfather of Christopher, Andrew (Joanna), Ted, Lindsey (Derrick), Jennifer, Scott, Dustin, Abigail and Ethan. Predeceased by his dear daughter-in-law Carol BELLAMY, sisters Annette and Mildred, and brothers Edwin, Clayton, Norman and Clyde. Former Owner of Murray's High Grade Footwear and Claude Heimler Footwear and a former employee of the T. Eaton and Co. Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus of Oakville from 1955 to 1957. Joined the Fourth Degree in 1966. Founding Member of the 60th Degree Seniors Group of Oakville. Claude was a leader and long-standing member of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Improvement Association. He was a World War 2 Veteran and served in Europe with the Queen's Own Rifles. Growing up in Kitchener, he was active in sports and played semi-pro fastball. Later in life he enjoyed being a member of the Oakville Curling Club. His energy, wit and enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by his family and Friends. LINKLATER, Harold Fraser
Harold Fraser LINKLATER was born on October 1, 1917 in Teeswater, Ontario to Harvey and Gladys (née Mason FRASER) LINKLATER. He was the oldest of three brothers. Until his death all four of them were still living - I'm sure that is a record for four brothers who had survived World War 2. Harold died at 90 and all his brothers are in their 80s. His great-grandparents arrived in Canada from the Orkneys in Scotland in 1852 and some of his great-uncles had come to Canada with the Hudson's Bay Company. The family moved to Kincardine in August 1929 when his father Harvey bought the furniture store and funeral home from W.H.A. MORRISON. He worked helping his father from age 12, but really started that career in 1935 when he finished Grade 12. In 1937-38 he took courses at the Banting Institute and General Hospital in Toronto. At 19 he got his license as an undertaker but couldn't use it until he was 21. He married Nora Elizabeth DIMOND on November 20, 1940. In May 1940 he had joined the Canadian army. He went into Officer training in Brockville and between 1940 to 1943 he was stationed in Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. In World War 2 he went overseas in June 1944 before the invasion of France and stayed there until the fall of 1946. He was in the 19th Self-Propelled Regiment. He was a Captain by the time the war ended. His daughter Elizabeth Ann was born in 1949 and son John Douglas in 1951. He was a Rover Scout and became a cub and scout leader. He was on the Kincardine Public School Board for 10 years, belonged to the Rotary Club, the Kinsmen, the Masonic Lodge and was president of the Chamber of Commerce for two years and received an award. In 1970 he was chairman of the Old Boy's and Girls Reunion Committee and won the award of Citizen of the Year. He cherished the silver tray that he was given to him with that inscription. The award was reported in the London Free Press. Ballots were received from as far away as Michigan and from across the province. It was the largest number of ballots at that time and 70 percent voted for him. His pride and joy was the cottage he built on Crab Cove near Red Bay. He bought the lakefront property in 1952 for $350 and in 1953 he and his neighbour Ed HAGEDORN put up the frame. He worked both at the Linklater Funeral Home and the Linklater Furniture Store. From 1966 to 1974 he owned and operated the funeral business by himself. In 1974 at age 57 he sold the Funeral business although he helped the new owner in the summers for 4-5 years afterwards. In 1974 he and Nora bought a place in Lakeland, Florida and started going there in the winters in 1975. Nora died on his birthday, October 1, 1988 after a 48-year marriage. He married Helen Emma HAYES (née COULSON) of Saint Thomas and Lakeland, Florida on July 22 1989. He and Helen lived at the cottage until September 2000 and in Owen Sound since then. They wintered in Lakeland until 1995 when Harold got cancer of the jaw. He survived that as he did a heart attack, strokes, blindness, and several operations. He was tenacious and had a tremendous will to live through all of these ailments until April 2008 when he accepted he was failing. Perhaps being a funeral director had given him this will to live because he had to live with death around him for so many years. Harold is survived by his beloved wife Helen, his daughter Elizabeth (Liza) and her husband James TROTTIER of Manila, Philippines, his son Douglas (Doug) of Red Bay, his grandchildren Jesse and Dane of Barrie, his brothers Ken (and Reita) of Kincardine, Bryce (and Alma) of Jarvis and Gordon (and Joan) of Toronto, and his former daughter-in-law, Dianne LINKLATER of Kincardine; his step-family Helen (and Bert) WRAY of Durham and their children Marla (and Lee) ZWOLMAN of Milton, Kevin and David WRAY; and to Marg NICHOL (and Gerald) of Brampton, Donald FINDLAY (and Teresa) of Campbell River, British Columbia and William FINDLAY (and Gazelle) of Winnipeg; as well as everyone's children and many grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks and affection are extended to dearest Helen, Helen and Bert WRAY of Durham, Fern and Ken FYNN, Linda CRANDALL and Ab LIPSETT and Mary VAN TRIGT, all of Owen Sound for their loving care and assistance over the last years. A memorial service took place on Monday May 5 at the Kincardine cemetery and was followed by a reception at Knox Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter Quita to whom she was a wonderful friend and support; granddaughter Sarah for whom held a special place in her heart and her sister Edith CURRIE with whom she held a lifelong conversation about their boarding school antics and life on the ranch. She was predeceased by her husband and companion Donald, only grand_son John Andrew, parents John and Martha WHITEFORD, sister Florence and brother Ted. She will be remembered for her elegance, sharp Irish wit, lively discussions, love of a good party and entertaining, afternoons of bridge and her generosity to others. Thanks to her caregivers Alda, Esme and Margaret who helped to make her final months comfortable. A private family service was held. There will be a void in our lives but when we think of Grandma it will be with a smile.

Passed peacefully into the hands of God at Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the age of 82, with his loving wife Irene (GOTTFRIED) at his side. He was the eldest son of the late Milton and Marie WEISS. Loving father of Larry (Sandra) KURT of Ladysmith, British Columbia; Marion (Gord) KOEPKE of Owen Sound; Bob (Ann) WEISS; Muriel (Alan) PRAUGHT both of Kitchener; Robert (Leonie) KURT of Nanimo, British Columbia and Ken WEISS also of Kitchener. Proud Grandfather of Lisa, Lori, Jesse, Derek, Brian, David, Mark, Jeff, Chris, Mike, Lisa and Crystal. Caring great-grandfather of 14. Predeceased by his first wife Ruby WHITELAW (1961.) He had various jobs in his early career in the Toronto and Richmond Hill area but spent 24 years full-time and 7 years part-time in preaching for the churches of Christ in Ontario and Manitoba. Resting in Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas, where his funeral service will be held Thursday, March 13 at 1 p.m. Visitation Wednesday, March 12, from 2: 30-4:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Internment will take place on March 14th at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford, Ontario. After a courageous battle at Victoria Hospital on April 16th, 2008, Miss Jean F. WHITELAW of London in her 89th year. Loving daughter of the late Archie and Jeanie WHITELAW. Dear sister of the late Emily BUCHANAN and the late Charles WHITELAW. She will be sadly missed by nieces Barbara MORROW of Brantford and Chris WHITELAW of London, and nephew Brian WHITELAW of Australia. Great aunt of David WHITE/WHYTE (Carole), Andrea (Keith BRADSHAW), Amy CORCORAN (Martin GRAHAM), Daizy LUX (Jonathan NAF) and Melissa CORCORAN. In keeping with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in the Lloyd R. Needham Funeral Chapel (520 Dundas Street, London) on Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 1: 00 p.m. with visitation for one hour prior to service time. Inurnment at Woodland Cemetery. In memory of Jean, contributions to the London Regional Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated.

Peacefully at University Hospital with his family by his side on Monday, May 19, 2008. William Somme MORRISON (Wick,) dear husband of Catherine and father of Rebekah Jane and Sharlotte Ruth of London, their husbands Glen WIZE and Brad WALLACE and three beautiful grandchildren, Hannah, Kathleen and Cathryn Marie WIZE, and John Nathaniel William WALLACE. Dear brother of John MORRISON of Calgary. Bill was predeceased by his sister Agnes (1911-1918,) nephew Colin WHITELAW (1976,) niece Janet Lynn LESLIE (1957-2004) and Lynda MITCHELL (1952-2004) and beloved son Peter WHITELAW- MORRISON (1950-1960.) Bill was a lifelong Londoner, World War 2 veteran, long-serving pharmacist and thoroughly good husband, father and friend. His quiet, patient and gentle presence will be missed by all who loved him. Peacefully at the Kingsway Retirement Home on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Kaye for 68 years. Loving father of Gary and his wife Linda MOLLENHAUER and Lynn DURNING and her husband Stephen. Cherished Grandpa" Cy" of Kathryn, Mathew, Scott and Lauren. Dear brother of Kevin. Special thanks to Gaitri RAMLINGUM for her continuing Care and Support. Cy led a remarkable life and brightened the lives of all he encountered. Highly decorated Air Force officer, successful businessman, lifelong partner to Kaye, and extraordinary father and grandfather. He never failed to think first of others; his humility and goodness was inspiring. He will be deeply missed. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere Ave., east of Jane subway, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Born in Fernie, British Columbia, May 15 1925, graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School 1951, developer of the National Blood policy (U.S.), died of Parkinson's Disease September 26, 2007 in Belle Mead, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, a classmate at medical school, Doctor Shiela C. MITCHELL (SMITH) a daughter Mary Jean WHITELAW, Don WHITELAW and two granddaughters Rebecca and Allison WHITELAW. An interment service will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery July 7 at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Robin WARDLAW of Newmarket, Ontario.
