O'BRIAN, Edith Jean (née BEATTY)
(October 5, 1919-July 1st, 2008)
In Toronto at the Salvation Army Meighen Manor Alzheimer and Dementia wing, in her 89th year. Edie was pre-deceased last year by her beloved husband of 65 years, Peter, and previously by her twin brother Richard BEATTY, her sisters Ottilie BEATTY and Graeme RENGERS, and her lifelong Friends Marcia WOOD and Joy MacDONALD. She is dearly missed by her sister Barbara SPEARS, her sons John St. George O'BRIAN (Helen) and Peter Beatty O'BRIAN (Carolyn BENNETT,) her grandchildren Melanie, Amy, Meghan, Jack and Ben (all O'BRIAN) who knew and loved her as 'Dede', her nephew Douglas SPEARS, and her nieces Jean PODOLSKY (George,) Buffy ASH (Bill,) and Kit RENGERS. She is also remembered with love by her brothers-in-law, James O'BRIAN (Anne) and Liam O'BRIAN (Barbara). Edie grew up in Toronto on Cottingham Street and Ava Crescent, the third daughter of lawyer Percy BEATTY (Fraser and Beatty) and Marjorie. She attended Bishop Stachan School and Hatfield Hall and spent summers at Nares Inlet, Georgian Bay, where she first met Peter in 1936. During World War 2, she sailed to England to join 'Pete', who was serving overseas in the Royal Air Force, and they were married in London at Saint Martin-in-the-Fields in December, 1941, returning to Toronto in 1959. During the War she served with the Red Cross. She later volunteered for many years with the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire at Dixon Hall in Toronto. She delighted in her family life, her dogs, Chelsea, Hollywood and Marley, long country walks and blueberry picking by canoe in the Georgian Bay. She was fiercely loyal and supportive to those she loved, and always sided with the 'underdog'. Edie's family is deeply grateful to the Meighen Manor for the loving care provided by its dedicated staff. She is sadly missed by her devoted care-giver, friend and daily companion, Merlidita DE VERA, who faithfully maintained her dignity, confidence and humour during her decline from Alzheimer disease. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of St. James the-Less Cemetery, 635 Parliament Street, Toronto. Donations may be made to the Canadian Alzhiemer Society or Salvation Army, Meighen Manor.

Remembered with a smile as a one-of-a-kind grandpa by his thirteen grandchildren, Christopher, Steven (Niki), Shawna, Brett, Elizabeth, Cameron, Michael, Patrick, Nick, Lauren, Anna, Katie and Marshall. Pre-deceased by his infant daughter Leslie Ann (1963,) his parents William and Esther (CAMERON,) his brothers Edmond, Arthur (Bea), Harold, Ronald (Sheila) and his sister Dorothea (Stan) COLBRAN. Was called home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Born in Surhuizum, Friesland, Holland, on May 18, 1928. He came to Canada with his parents Jakop and Wytscke "Louise" (HOUWINK) NAUTA in June 1947 Henry farmed most of his life in Raleigh Township until his passing. He will be greatly missed by his partner and best friend of 22 years, Gail CASHMAN. Also sadly missed by brothers and sisters Abe and Hilda NAUTA of Chatham, Ralph and Margaret NAUTA, sister-in-law Lisa, all of Merlin, sister-in-law Marie NAUTA, Ronnie and John TIMMERMANS of Chatham, Joan and Gus SONNEVELD, John and Hermina NAUTA all of Blenheim, Hilda and Pete BERGHUIS of Ingersoll, Clara and Hank WOUDENBERG of London, Catherine and Marius VERBEEK of Ridgetown, and Ruth and Hunter ODEN of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Of Strathroy, died suddenly but peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Married for 60+ years, he lost the love of his life Norma (PRANGLEY) in February 2007. Karl KUTSCHENREITER, Jr.▼ was born on January 9, 1950 in Pichling, Austria. He was the first-born child of Juliana (AMENT) and Karl KUTSCHENREITER. A couple of years later the family grew with the addition of his little sister Wilma. He lived in Austria until May 25, 1955 when Julie, Karl Jr. and Wilma travelled to Canada by boat to Montreal and then by train to Toronto where they joined Karl Sr. who had been in Toronto making it possible for the rest of the family to join him.
The KUTSCHENREITERs lived in Toronto from 1955-1959 at which time they moved to Shrigley; by December of 1959 they moved to the family farm on Highway 10.
Karl attended public school at S.S.#4 at Victoria Corners. He attended the Dundalk High School and Grey Highlands Secondary School. Karl attended Humber College and studied as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic - an education that he used for the rest of his working years.
He had three children: Kyle, Shannon and Tanya.
Karl settled on his property at R.R.#3 Flesherton around 1989, where he lived until his death.
Karl held various jobs, which included: heavy equipment operator, equipment repair, mechanic, welder, pond builder and truck driver. Karl was a man that could operate anything with a diesel engine. He was a kid that never grew up - always playing with his toys in the dirt.
He will be remembered by others for his young "Elvis" hair, his motorcycle days and his willingness to help a friend out no matter what. Karl enjoyed being with Friends in the outdoors, both hunting and fishing.

Of Chatham and formerly of Wallaceburg, passed away suddenly at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance - Public General Campus on Monday, March 17, 2008 in his 66th year. Wally is the son of the late John Peter and Mary (MEERHAEGHE) VAN KERKHOVEN. Deeply loved by wife Judy (née ROSE.) He will always be remembered as an awesome and loving Dad by his daughters Deb VAN KERKHOVEN, Kelly EMERY and son-in-law Mark EMERY. Proud Papa of Jon-Codee, Tanner, Cassidy and Kyle EMERY. Favorite brother of Harvey and wife Jeannette. Son-in-law of Margaret and the late Harry ROSE. Brother-in-law of Betty and Roy ANDERSON and Carman and Shirley ROSE. It is with deep sorrow and heartache that we announce the death of Joyce Morden BEDFORD on Saturday, March 8, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce will be missed by her son Clay, daughters Catherine STEWARD/STEWART/STUART and her husband Jim and Jennifer and her husband Barry ELMES, brother Jim BELL and his wife Audrey, grandchildren Emma and Graeme STEWARD/STEWART/STUART, step-granddaughter Jennifer VERGOS, nephews and nieces, and a myriad of Friends ranging in age from 6 to 96. Born on May 10, 1928 in Niagara Falls, Joyce grew up in St. Lambert, Quebec, and attended McGill University. head librarian at Malton District Library from 1967 until her retirement in 1992, Joyce delighted in sharing her love to read with others. In her retirement, she remained active championing various causes and advocating for social justice through the political system. She did volunteer work at Aloma Public School and faithfully attended the Toronto International Film Festival. Her passion for social issues led her to deep and rewarding involvement with the Academy for Life Long Learning. Special thanks to Doctor Ralph GILBERT of the University Health Network for his skill, candour and compassion throughout Joyce's illness. No flowers please, however if you'd care to make a donation in Joyce's name, her favourite charities were the Council of Canadians (www.canadians.org) and the David Suzuki Foundation (www.davidsuzuki.org). Donations to Bethell House (www.hospicecaledon.ca), a residential hospice being constructed by Hospice Caledon that would have made Joyce's final days more comfortable, would also be appreciated. Or, as Joyce so often did, take a stand when you perceive an injustice make your voice heard. Only son of Edward and Allie (EDGAR) HIGGINS, passed away at his home in the arms of his wife on June 20th, 2008. Beloved husband of Anelda (BLACK) HIGGINS for 52 years. Loving father of Lori-Ann (Philip) McNALLY and infant daughter Lee-Ann HIGGINS (1960). He dearly loved his grandchildren Marty, Kristy-Ann and Kyle McNALLY as well as precious little great-grand_son Brock Bruce McNALLY. Bruce is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Helena and Keith DAWSON, Leona LEBLANC and Gail and Eldon BLACK. Predeceased by his brother in-law Gerald BLACK. Bruce is also remembered by his long time friend and business partner Kenneth MORGAN (Morgan and Higgins Fuels.) Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. At Bruce's request there will be no visitation. Cremation and private burial has taken place. A memorial service for Bruce will be held at Trinity Anglican Church in Watford (5331 Nauvoo Rd.) on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tom ANDERSON officiating.
