STANNERS,
James
Ellwood
(July 16, 1920-March 8, 2008)
Passed away peacefully at Saint_Joseph's Villa in Dundas, Ontario
in his eighty- eighth year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret
(née HART.) He is survived by his three children Robert (Victoria,)
Joan NELSON
(Les) and Barbara
PHILIPS (John,) loving companion
of many years Frances Mete and his six beloved grandchildren.
Jim was born and lived his entire life in Toronto. He attended
Harbord Collegiate Institute and the University of Toronto graduating
in civil engineering. Throughout his life he passionately pursued
an engineering career both as a partner in a large engineering
firm and then as a consultant. He enjoyed travelling both as
part of his career and for pleasure. He covered the world several
times as he mixed his keen interest in engineering with that
of people and places. This included visits to Russia and Cuba
during the 1960's. Jim was a caring, fun loving and active individual
with a keen sense of humour which he retained to the end. He
loved to alpine ski, swim and play tennis. He encouraged and
took many individuals, including his son, on around-the-lake
swims at Cliff House in the Muskoka's (accompanied by a rowboat).
An active member of the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club
for over forty-five years Jim continued daily to have lunch,
meet with Friends and walk around the cricket pitch (three times)
well into his eighties. For over twenty years he enjoyed his
twice yearly trips to his townhouse at Seabrook Island, South
Carolina to cycle, walk the beach, and of course play tennis.
Jim's legacy of ongoing concern, support, humour and keen interest
in his children, grandchildren, companion Frances and Friends
throughout his life will be forever cherished and remembered.
His was truly a life well lived. The family would like to express
our appreciation to the caregivers at both Number 4 Teddington
(Toronto) and Saint_Joseph's Villa (Dundas, Ontario) for making
Jim's last years comfortable. Visitation will be held at the
Trull Funeral Home "North Toronto Chapel", 2704 Yonge Street

Funeral Service will be held at Fairlawn United Church (Fairlawn
