CROWLEY,
Ann (1944-2003)
Run for Ovarian Cancer Memorial July 5th marks the 5th anniversary
of the passing of our very dear friend Ann
CROWLEY, as a result
of Ovarian Cancer. When she was diagnosed with this dreadful
disease Ann felt compelled to bring all of her considerable influence
and energy to making other women aware of the signs and symptoms
of this disease. With a handful of Friends and family, Ann started
the Run for Ovarian Cancer to try and raise awareness and to
generate funds for research into a cure or early detection for
Ovarian Cancer. Her good work was multiplied by the efforts of
other London women diagnosed with the same disease, women like
Elaine Pensa, Kim Sinclair and Nancy Ford. In 2008 these grass
roots efforts have added over $100,000 to the money raised since
the Run's beginning, bringing the total to over half a million
dollars! This money goes directly to support a translational
cancer research initiative at London Regional Cancer Centre in
co-operation with the Gynaecology Department of University of
Western Ontario and London Health Sciences Centre. Researchers
and care givers assisted by Doctor Trevor
SHEPHERD are working diligently
to unlock the key to early detection and ultimately a cure. The
executive committee of The Run for Ovarian Cancer remembers and
honours Ann
CROWLEY for her inspiration and the positive impact
that it continues to bring to our community and to women everywhere.
