Unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his favorite spot at the family cottage in Port Stanley, on Thursday July 3, 2008, George B. WEEKES one week shy of his 84th birthday. Beloved husband of Veronika (LENZ.) Predeceased by his first wife Edith " Edie" (1992.) Loving father of Judy WEEKES- WALKER (Paul) of Holt, Michigan and Carol Weekes SCHACTER (Gordon) of London. Cherished Boppa of Alyson VANSICKLE (Sam) of Tecumseh, Michigan and great-grandfather of Riley VANSICKLE. Dear brother of June BELL (Chas) of Saint Thomas. Brother-in-law of Ingrid FREISINGER (George) of Aylmer, Rick LENZ (Pat) of Saint Thomas, and Bernhard LENZ (Renate) of Berlin, Germany. Dearly loved uncle of his many nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by many relatives and Friends whom he nicknamed throughout the years. George served in the Canadian Armed Forces, overseas, where he entertained troops in the Canadian Army Shows during World War 2. As an accomplished trumpet player he played in many bands, including the Johnny Downs Orchestra, where he was often heard playing at the Stork Club in Port Stanley. Recently George and the members of the Johnny Downs Orchestra, were the first to be inducted into The Stork Club Big Band Museum and Hall of Fame. George ran the Fred J. Weekes and son Insurance Agency in London for over 50 years following his father's retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Union Lodge No. 380 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of London. George happily spent his winters with his wife in North Fort Myers, Florida. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate George's life will be held at the family cottage on Saturday July 12, 2008 from 2: 00 to 5:00 p.m. in Port Stanley. In keeping with George's style and tradition "keep it casual". Survived by her grandchildren Robert and Michael (Georgia) SIMMS, Lindsay and Shannon MacIVER and Meghan, Mark and Ryan MacSWEEN. Cherished by her siblings Mildred SCHAEFER, Helen DEVEREAUX, Frank (Betty), Jerome (Theresa), Margaret (Jack) and sister-in-law Angela. Predeceased by her siblings Ellahree (Clem) PAYTON, Emmett, Leon and her two brothers-in-law Albert SCHAEFER and Robert DEVEREAUX. Her sparkling smile and love of life and good Friends, will always be remembered. John Gordon of Newmarket, and formerly of Goderich and Wingham, passed away peacefully at Newmarket Health Centre, on Wednesday April 30, 2008 in his 88th year. Loving husband of Mary (SCHAEFER.) Beloved father of John WALTER and Bruce WALTER and his wife Darlene. Very proud grandfather of Alex, Erin and Eric. Predeceased by his sister Jean CLEMENTS and brothers Sam, Dan and Peter. Gordon was born in Goderich on April 17, 1921, the son of the late Richard WALTER and Elizabeth BISSET.
WALTER, Mary Helen (SCHAEFER) passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, on Sunday May 4, 2008 in her 83rd year. Very recently predeceased by her loving husband Gordon. Beloved mother of John WALTER and Bruce WALTER and his wife Darlene. Loving grandmother of Alex, Erin and Eric. Predeceased by her sister Jean TUDOR and survived by her brothers John and Bill SCHAEFER of Goderich. Mary was born in Goderich on July 16, 1925, the daughter of the late George SCHAEFER and Luella McCOOL. For many years prior to their retirement, Mary and Gord were owners of Walter's Clothing store in Wingham. They had recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. A memorial service for both Mary and Gord will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 9 Victoria Street North in Goderich at 2: 00 p.m. on Saturday May 24th. 78 of Tavistock passed away in Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. She was born in East Zorra Township, Oxford County on June 23, 1929 a daughter of the late Allan and Mabel (BIRCH) BALE. Dorothy was a piano teacher in Tavistock for more than sixty years; was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sebastopol-Tavistock where she was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Women. She also played the pump organ for services at the Historical Trinity Anglican Church in East Zorra. She had good memories of the enjoyment she had during the years she was farming with her husband Lloyd. She married Lloyd Henry WILKER at Trinity Anglican Church, East Zorra on August 25, 1951. He died on May 11, 1985. Dorothy is the loved mother of Rosanne and husband Bert JALASJAA of Waterlooo, Richard and wife Kathy WILKER of Tavistock, Allan and wife Barb WILKER of Mitchell, Linda and husband Perry Keller of Tavistok; grandmother of Kenneth and Paul Brown, Jason and wife Sherry WILKER, Todd and wife Amie WILKER, Heather WILKER and fiance Darryl GEAR, Luke and wife Jen WILKER, Sara WILKER and friend Dave DEYOUNG, Karlie WILKER and friend George BISAK, Chad and Kaitlin KELLER; great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren; special friend and sister-in-law of Helen McGREGOR of Tavistock and Dorothy SCHAEFER of Kitchener. A lifelong resident of Hamilton, Laird passed away peacefully at Saint Peter's Hospital in his 90th year. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean and children Laird (Joan) JENNINGS, Mary (Barry) McKEON, Barbara (Colin) LAZIER, Maggie Butterfield (Ditch) DICKINSON. Dear Grandfather to Sarah and Stephen (Laura) JENNINGS; David and Holly McKEON; Amy (Erik) SCHAEFER, Kate, Colin and William LAZIER; David (Lauren), Andrew and Taylor DICKINSON: Great-grandfather to Lauren, Liam and Matthew; Beth and Martha and Zoë. He is predeceased by his sister Elsa. He is also survived by his sister Joan BIRMINGHAM of Vancouver. Laird served with the Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force as Flt. Lt. in World War 2 and he was awarded Hamilton's first Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a Hamilton City Alderman, Past Chair of the Hamilton Club, Past President of the Caledon Mountain Trout Club and a member of the Tamahaac Club. Laird happily retired from Jennings Insurance to pursue fly fishing, duck hunting and skeet shooting. He will be sadly missed by his many Friends. Died peacefully, on April 21st 2008, at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge, in his 77th year. Dick was predeceased by both his parents, Victor and Nancy KNIGHT, his sister Judi WILSON and also by his wife, Sylvia. He is survived by his sister Bunny TURNER of Halifax. He will be sadly missed by dear friend and constant companion Barb HOPKINS.
Lovingly remembered by his 4 children and their partners; Larry KNIGHT and Michelle PETRIN, Steven KNIGHT, Jeffrey KNIGHT and Valerie CLASS- KNIGHT, Alyson SCHAFER and Ken SCHAFER.
Dick leaves behind ten grandchildren who will all miss him and his many surprise treats; Sarah, Lawren and Ainslie KNIGHT; Kaitlyn, Michael, Alexandra KNIGHT; Emily and Paul KNIGHT; Zoe and Lucy SCHAFER.
Richard was a graduate of Antioch College (Ohio). He joined the staff of the University of Waterloo in 1966 as an academic counsellor for the Faculty of Arts. He served as president of the Staff Association for several terms. He retired in 1994 and was bestowed with Honorary Member of The University of Waterloo. Dick worked tirelessly as a volunteer over the span of his entire life. Never dissuaded by the enormity of a worthy task, he was responsible for the creation and founding of numerous organizations such as the Canadian Unitarian Council, Unicamp, The Willowdale Fellowship, The Alfred Adler Institute of Ontario and many others. Dick never arrived empty handed and made sure that there was always room at his table, a pallet on his floor and a boat full of gas.
Since retiring, Dick shared his time and talents, volunteering for Beaver Creek Correctional Institute as Community Liaison, and as a board member of Muskoka Family Services. The acts of kindness, caring and citizenry Dick has shown his beloved Muskoka community are too numerous to mention and too special to be forgotten.

Much loved and respected father of Ken and Marilyn FENWICK of Zurich, Ontario Teri-Anne and Gary SUTHERLAND of London, Ontario; Bill and Anne FENWICK of St. Catharines, Ontario. Loving grandfather of Kendra (Ryan) WILKINS, Kyle (Christa) FENWICK, Kari-Lyn (Paul) TITUS, Krista (Mark) ELLIOT/ELLIOTT, Kelly (Todd) SCHAUS, and Todd, Chad (Sarah,) Reid, Colin, and Katelyn FENWICK. Great-grandfather of Devin and Jalyn FENWICK; Connor and Austin TITUS and Ethan WILKINS. Earl served in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Service Corps from 1939-1945. He then served with the Royal Canadian Service Corps Reserve Force 4 Column from 1946-1980. Earl was also a member of the London Fire Department for 39 years retiring as Acting Fire Chief in 1981. He was also a life member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans #393 and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #317. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2: 00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, where the funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 16th, 2008, at 11: 00 a.m. Private interment, Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
