Also survived by her sister-in-law Beth MacCORKINDALE of Owen Sound, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Robert and Hugh MacCORKINDALE, her sisters Ruby PHILP and Tina HOGG and her niece Joan (PHILP) RACINE. Cremation has taken place. At 88 years of age, passed away peacefully at The Pines Long Term Care Residence in Bracebridge, Ontario on Tuesday January 29th with her daughter Mary Jane by her side. She was a loving mother to Geoff THURLOW, Mary Jane PHILP and Sally THURLOW- WARD, and Nana to their children Peter and Joanna THURLOW, Jamie and Jonathan PHILP, and Esme and Oliver WARD. Wife of Lionel THURLOW. For 54 years, she put a brave face to the world while she struggled with the effects of polio. Once the life and soul of the party, may she now rest in peace. HOWARD, Irene Anna (née ANDREWS)
Passed away peacefully June 1, 2008 in Barrie, Ontario. The daughter of William and Irene ANDREWS, Irene was born November 27, 1914 in Ottawa, Ontario. She was the eldest of six children and sister to Doris, Willa, Norma, Billy and Joan. On October 26, 1940, Irene wed George Stanley HOWARD of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Quebec City. In 1948, they moved from their Ottawa home to Toronto's suburban Etobicoke where they raised three children, John Andrew HOWARD, Jane Andrea MILNER and Joan Elizabeth PHILPOTT. Irene worked several years for the Ottawa Journal. Later in Toronto's Kingsway area, she operated a Bloor Street antique shop and then became manager and buyer for The Carriage Trade women's store, a role which spanned decades. George and Irene are survived by their three children, eight grandchildren, Geordie, Lyndsay, Samantha, Katherine, Smith, Ali, Heather and John and by three great-grandchildren, Lucy, Charlie and Cameron. After 56 years of marriage, Irene lost George September 9, 1996. They will be reunited at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery in Oakville, Ontario. Irene's life will be celebrated June 22 in the company of family and Friends at a private residence in Barrie. Suddenly at London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital, on Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 Mrs. Bernadette "Bunny" (QUESNEL) HAZZARD of London in her 85th year. Beloved wife of Howard O. HAZZARD. Dear mother of Marie PHIPPS and her husband Don of Hamilton. Also loved by her grandchildren Donna-Lynne LEMKE of Katrine and Christopher PHIPPS and his wife Susan of Cambridge and her great-grandchildren. Mrs. HAZZARD was a long time very active member of Orphah Chapter No. 102 and enjoyed her crafts. Predeceased by her daughter Louise HAZZARD and her brother Pat QUESNEL. Tragically as the result of a car accident on Friday, June 13th, 2008, Stuart James BANNISTER, age 29 of Grand Bend. Sadly missed by his mother Mary Jeffrey and her husband Jim CHEVALIER, and his father Gordon BANNISTER and his wife Tran Tu THUY. Loved by his grandmother Irma BANNISTER. Missed by his brother Kurt BANNISTER and his partner Lauren ALEXANDER. Nephew to Ruth and Gord PHIPPS, Tom BANNISTER and Shirley OICKLE, Pat O'CONNELLY, Bill JEFFREY, Steve and Ann O'LEARY, Joan and Aldo ROTONDI. Peacefully on March 5th at Glenwarren Lodge in Victoria, in her ninetieth year, Valerie COLLARD (née PHIPPS.) Valerie▼ was born in Vancouver, the elder daughter of the late Roy and Frances PHIPPS. She▼ was predeceased by her husband Cart in 1995, and is survived by their son Daryl, of Victoria, by her sister Pat HAMILTON, of Halifax, and by her nephew and his family, Jim, Jeanne, and Melissa HAMILTON, of Newmarket, Ontario. Raised in the Point Grey-Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver, Valerie PHIPPS graduated from Lord Byng High School, and went on to complete her teacher training at the British Columbia Provincial Normal School. For five years she went north to teach at Kingcome Inlet, Vanderhoof, and Fort Saint_James before returning to Vancouver, where she taught at Prince of Wales School until marrying. The family moved to Victoria in 1964. An active member of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire throughout her adult life, she was Regent of the University Chapter in Vancouver and the Martlet Chapter in Victoria, and served in many national and provincial offices. She played tennis and badminton in her younger days, and keenly followed Wimbledon, the French Open, and other tournaments all her life. Bridge, crafts, and gardening were her favourite pastimes in later years, and she came to know many of her Friends across the bridge table or in workshops making Christmas decorations. An elegant lady with a fine sense of humour, she is especially remembered at the Victoria Golf Club in Oak Bay and at St. George's Church in Cadboro Bay. The family are deeply indebted to the staff of Glenwarren Lodge for the loving and compassionate care Valerie received in her last years. Donations in her memory, if desired, should be made to the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation (1450 Hillside Avenue, Victoria, British Columbia, V8T 2B7) or the charity of one's choice.
