Of Edgewood Drive, Woodstock, passed away at the Woodstock General Hospital on Friday, June 20, 2008 in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Sheila May KROHE (nee: SQUANCE.) Loving father of Richard KROHE (Isabel), London; Lorraine PENCE (Paul), Cambridge; Ronald KROHE (Ann), Langton and Lou Ann REEVES, Woodstock. On Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Brantford General Hospital in her 79th year, Janet Mizpah RODGERS, (née LITHGOW.) Beloved wife of the late Doctor C. Lawrence 'Larry' RODGERS (2003.) Much loved mother of Marianne and Wayne GOODFELLOW, Eugénie and Thomas PORR, Melanie RODGERS, and Christopher and Gail RODGERS. Loving grandmother of Sebastian, Nigel and Mizpah GOODFELLOW, Jason and Miranda PORR, and Charlotte and Mary RODGERS. Dear sister of Marnie DE PENCIER and the late Charles LITHGOW. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Upon graduation from Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, Janet entered nursing school at Sick Children's Hospital. Soon afterwards, she met Larry and one month later, they became engaged. Together they enjoyed fifty-two years of marriage, raising four devoted and adoring children, encouraging each to follow their own distinct paths. Janet adored her grandchildren and showered her vast knowledge and generosity upon them accordingly. In her many years as a resident of Brantford, Janet touched the lives of many people. In return, she was blessed by the Friendship and devotion of many people from all walks of life. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Brantford General Hospital, Palliative Care Unit for their compassion and attention. Dane peacefully passed away at the Bloomington Cove Specialty Care, surrounded with the love of his family. He will be lovingly remembered by the family he cherished, wife June of 61 years children Michael (Eleonor), Dennis (Tessa), Darrel (Jill) and Mary Kate (Tony PEARCE.) He was adored by his grandchildren Steven (Jennifer), Jennifer (Colin), Amanda, Adam, David, Amelia, Taylor, Owen, Mitchell and great-grandchildren Mikayla, Natalie, Aiden and April. Survived by his sister Carol LONG.

Beloved mother of Tim (Anne) and Donna (Paul PENDRITH) and Grandma to John KIDD (Melanie), Stephanie (James THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON) and Michael UNWIN, sister of Isabel MILLER (John,) daughter of the late Chester and Amy NICHOLSON of Fergus, Ontario. Donna was predeceased by her husbands Harry Arnold KAYES in 1953 and George UNWIN in 1982. Donna was born in 1915 in Puslinch, Ontario. She graduated from Toronto Western Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. Throughout her 93 years Donna had a passion for music and was an accomplished pianist. Her great love of the outdoors and knowledge of birds and flowers were the envy of her Friends and family. She was a proud Canadian and always fully committed to the service of the communities in which she lived. She was of unfailing good spirit and humour. Donna developed a passion for art late in life and became a prize winning artist in her 80s. Her full and many faceted life has been an inspiration to everyone who knew her and to the communities she served. A private family remembrance is planned. The family will always be grateful to Doctor Mary Beth BOURNE and to the wonderful staffs at Park Place Manor and the new palliative care unit at the Southlake hospital for their care and compassion, particularly in recent months.

Our friend, husband and father died on Good Friday at Toronto Western Hospital. Clay would have liked to have been remembered both as a writer and as a pioneer in establishing French public schools in Toronto. Clay wrote throughout his life (including book reviews for The Globe and Mail) but his magnum opus is his book Treegodspace. Clay believed in multi-culturalism and in Canadians speaking both official languages, and was active in left-wing politics. He devoted his considerable talent and energy to working to establish a French public school system in Toronto, and the success that system is now enjoying is due in no small part to his efforts.
Clay▼ was born in 1928 to Mary Elizabeth Kolb DERSTINE and Bishop C.F. DERSTINE of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener. Clay grew up in Kitchener and was a football star at Kitchener Collegiate Institute and Waterloo Lutheran. He came to Toronto to do graduate studies, but fled to Paris, where he sought to come to terms with the divergence between many of society's values and his own. He taught himself French from Friends, books and the street, and worked at United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. He returned to Canada in 1958, met and married Joyce CARTER, his love and companion for the next 50 years. Their son is Dirk DERSTINE of Toronto. Clay was also blessed with a daughter, Julie SAAVEDRA, born in France. He also leaves his daughter-in-law Jennifer PENMAN, his son-in-law Téo SAAVEDRA and his grandchildren Madeleine, Benjamin, Lou and Atina. His brother John and sisters Ruth, Yvonne and Grace will all miss him as will their families and the rest of his large family.
Clay was a believer in wonder, joy and close observation triumphing over order-mongering and those who define interest, profit and riches in money. We loved him and we are all blessed by his memory and example, while poorer for his absence. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, April 6 at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, 106 Trinity Street, Toronto, at 5 p.m. until whenever.

PENMAN, Thomas Ferguson, F.C.M.A.
Thomas Ferguson PENMAN, dearly loved husband of Elizabeth for 63 years, passed away in Toronto on Friday, July 4, 2008, after a lengthy illness. He is also survived by his loving and devoted children Michael (and his wife Christine) and Cynthea (and her companion Roman ZURBA) and by his adoring grandchildren Robertson, Cameron and Sarah PENMAN. He was predeceased by his sister Jane Ann (Nan) SPEIRS and he leaves his many in-laws, nieces and nephews in the Speirs, Ross, Morrice and Olding families. Tom was born just outside Edinburgh, Scotland in 1924 and grew up in both Edinburgh and New York City. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1943 and was a Lancaster navigator in World War 2. In 1947 Elizabeth and he immigrated to Canada and in 1948 he began his career at Kodak Canada. He retired from Kodak in 1984, by which time he had become its Vice President -- Finance and a Director of the company. Tom was a long-time member of what is now The Society of Management Accountants of Canada and was honoured as a Fellow of the Society. He was an Elder of St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church. Until slowed by illness, Tom enjoyed for many years an active and rewarding retirement. He was a volunteer in various organizations, including the Kiwanis Club (Humber Valley) and the Kiwanis Music Festival, and he golfed regularly at the Toronto Board of Trade Country Club. Most of all, he enjoyed being a doting Papa to his grandchildren. A private interment will take place. Family and Friends are invited to a reception, honouring Tom and his life, on Thursday, July 10, 2008 between 2 and 4 p.m. at Turner and Porter's Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke. Born mischievous in Peterborough, Ontario December 29, 1918, he was in turn World War 2 Royal Canadian Air Force radar technician for Sunderland bombers, in Pembroke Dock, Wales; voracious suma cum laude philosophy and Latin graduate of St. F.X. in Antigonish, Nova Scotia; delightedly fulfilled husband of Rita LARSEN; loving and patient father of eight children; patient yet dynamic business teacher at Cobourg District Collegiate Institute West; patient and honorable Cobourg town councilor after retirement from teaching; enduring, patient and cherished counselor of those same eight children as adults. PENNEFATHER, Sarah Jane
Sarah Jane PENNEFATHER was born in Montreal on March 7, 1951. After a long and difficult battle with cancer, Sarah passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, with her daughter Caitlin by her side, and surrounded by loving family and loyal Friends. An astute business person and accomplished entrepreneur, Sarah was, above all else, a loving, dedicated and committed mother to her daughter Caitlin. More than that, she was Caitlin's confidant and friend. Sarah lived a full and active life. In her youth, she attended school in Europe and journeyed fearlessly across the globe. Later, in the late 1970's and early 1980's, she worked with Reader's Digest and the Financial Post. She went on to found her own computer consulting firm, becoming quickly absorbed by 'all things computer.' After that, the latest piece of technology was seldom absent from Sarah's side. Through all these accomplishments, Sarah was supremely focused and determined, leaving her unmistakable mark wherever she went. Most recently, Sarah became an avid golfer whose passion for the game was coupled with a voracious appetite for improvement. Even when she was unable to play, the din of the golf channel was always in the background. In golf, as with all things, Sarah jumped in feet first: immersing herself in the game. Sarah's legacy will be simple and clear: a good friend, an accomplished business person, a trusted and true traveler along life's road. But most of all, Sarah will be remembered through her daughter Caitlin. Sarah committed herself to Caitlin's life, always letting her know - in no uncertain terms - how she felt. Sarah supported Caitlin's decisions and advocated tirelessly on her behalf. Sarah's Friends and family would like to extend their warm thanks to Dr. Kevin BEZANSON and to Joan PALMER of the Community Care Access Centre care team. With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Matthew WEBSTER on March 15, 2008, 24 years, the beloved son of Kathy WEBSTER of Dawson City, and Arthur WEBSTER of Whitehorse, Yukon. Matt is mourned and will be greatly missed by his large extended family and his many Friends in Dawson City, Vancouver, Toronto, and elsewhere across Canada. Peter HUBERT, in his 83rd year, beloved husband of Susan (THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON,) for 39 years. Missed by his sisters, Mary PENNER of Waterloo and Wanda TRAUTMAN of Kitchener. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, mentor, friend, son and brother, Frederic Charles COLES, on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the age of 64 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Fred spent 36 years as a Petroleum Engineer in the Calgary Oil and Gas Industry significantly contributing to the development of GLJ Petroleum Consultants Ltd. and to the growth of several Junior Oil and Gas Corporations, Trusts, and Capital Corporations through his contributions as a member of their Boards of Directors. Fred has touched many individuals through his endless ability to give of himself, a trait that will be sorely missed by so many. Besides his friend Joyce McKinney, Fred is survived by children, Warren (Nicole LIBOIRON- COLES) and Karin (Stephen KELBA;) his grandchildren, Richard KELBA, Alexander KELBA, Jackson COLES and Rhianna KELBA. Fred is also survived by his mother Marjorie, brother Ron, sister Shirley PENNER and former wife Sharon THOMAS. In 1974, Fred was predeceased by his father, Charles Louis COLES. Over the past eleven years Fred worked tirelessly as the chair and cochair of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Annual Charity Golf Classic and he would like to thank all of the dedicated staff and doctors at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their commitment and devotion. Fred also made significant efforts towards the Save The Family Foundation of Arizona over the past five years. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their care and compassion over the past eleven years. Born in Altona, Manitoba, February 10, 1931. Died in Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, April 30, 2008. Predeceased by parents John H. and Elizabeth SAWATZKY (née PENNER) of Gnadenfeld (Altona.) He is survived by his aunt Anne SAWATZKY (Frank,) his brother Harold (Anne), sister Evelyn, nieces Maryanne, Tonya and Leila and nephews John and Howard.
Leonard achieved his undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba in 1961, his M.A. at University of California at Los Angeles, Berkley in 1963. In 1967 he received his PhD from University of California at Los Angeles, Berkley under the direction of Dr. Carl Sauer, distinguished American Geographer. He was the last PhD student Doctor Sauer advised. Leonard was widely published, including the books They Sought a Country: Mennonite Colonization in Mexico, Univ. of Cal. Press 1971, and Sie Suchen Eine Heimat: Deutsch-Mennonitishe Kolonisierung in Mexiko 1922-1984, Marburg 1986, based on his PhD research on Mennonite settlement in Mexico. He taught for 40 years at the University of Manitoba and retired as Associate Professor of Geography in the Department of Environment and Geography. In 1972 he was guest professor at Philips University, Marburg/Lahn, Germany.
Cremation took place at Barringer Funeral Services, Winnipeg, with instruction that his ashes be scattered around the world by Friends.
