Born
in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in 1914, he and his family
emigrated to Edmonton in 1929. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police in April 1940 and retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1966.
He finished his working career with the Immigration Service in
Fort Erie, Ontario and finally retired in 1979. He lived and
worked in a world of right and wrong, of good and bad, where
he played a small but important part in making that world a better
and safer place. He loved and was inordinately proud of his family
and their accomplishments while minimizing the importance of
his own. We will miss his stories and lessons drawn from the
great literary and historical texts he loved to read, while trying
hard to remember them all. There will be no funeral service,
at his request. Donations, for those so inclined, could be directed

Michael's career was vast and varied and we know that many will
miss the banter for which he was known - not to mention the hard
questions. He considered himself semi-retired (not necessarily
true), as he never turned down a chance to mentor and advise
young people on their career paths and education.
As always he continued to travel, as long as he could access
his e-mail, a courier service and telephone, but of course with
a hammock and beach nearby.
We will celebrate Michael's life on May 27th at the Beach Grove

MERKLELY,
Mildred
In loving memory of my beloved wife Mildred who passed away June 27,
Down the path of memories
I gently tread today
For my loving thoughts are with you
As life goes on its way
I often talk about you
with love and sad regret
For I, who loves you dearly
Never will forget
The many things you did for me
In your kind and loving way
You gave me years of happiness
No one can take away
To me you were someone special
Someone good and true
You will never be forgotten
For I thought the world of you.
