Passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday April 21, 2008
in Vancouver at the age of 97. Predeceased by her husband John. Ann is
survived by her sons Bill (Lynde) of Toronto and John (Lorraine) of Maple
and her grandsons Andrew and Dylan of Vancouver, as well as her surviving
sisters and brothers and many nieces and nephews. Ann will be lovingly
remembered by her family and Friends who had the pleasure of her positive
attitude toward life. Thanks to her caregivers at Chalmers Lodge and in
her final days at Banfield Pavillion. Special thanks to Sham Sami and to
Jan O’Brien. A reception was held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1440 –

on May 19, 2008 in his 80th year, exactly 10 days after accepting
the news of the extent of his cancer with courage and dignity
- the same realistic way he dealt with every other challenge
he faced throughout his life, particularly during his last few
years with limited mobility and multiple health issues (to quote
him, this was just another 'curve ball'). He was surrounded during
his last days by love, family, Friends, music, and of course,
Flowers. Needless to say, he was telling jokes right up to his
last hours of consciousness. He was much loved and will be missed

reunited. Always a visionary, Jack was a pioneer in the growing,
mass marketing and distribution of flowers throughout his career.
He was one of the first flower producers to introduce the sale
of potted plants and cut flowers to major food chains and department
stores. In carrying on the family business that his father started
(Atkin's Flowers, then Yoder-Atkin), he advanced the year-round
propagation and sale of chrysanthemum cuttings to North American
markets, and was a great believer in plant breeders' rights.
His innovation for packaging and distribution led the way for
the success that exists in today's flower industry. He also started
the direct sales business at Ontario Flower Growers. Known as
'Action Jackson', he was also an avid volunteer in numerous organizations
- he was one of the founders of the Cecil Delworth Foundation
and the Canadian Ornamental Plant Foundation, a strong supporter
of Flowers Canada and The Canadian Horticulture Council, and
served on the Board of the Royal Winter Fair when they introduced
the flower show into the annual program. Jack has always been
recognized by the flower industry of North America and has been
given many awards for his contributions over the years. He was
also involved in building the Leamington District Memorial Hospital
in the 1950s. His interests included having the best garden in
town, curling, Kinsmen, tennis, barbershop singing, playing cards,
scotch, dancing (even in his wheelchair) and more recently being
a Claremont Calendar guy! Jack was always proud of the lifelong
Friendships he made along the way with so many people, including
his colleagues, most of his clients, and his competitors. His
life was about 'caring and sharing'. He will be remembered by
his 'power of positive thinking' approach to life, his loyalty
and Friendship, the flowers he always had for everyone, and his
lifelong ambition to make people smile. Jack's family is very

After completing the No 2 Canadian
Army University Course, Ted served overseas as part of the Canadian
Army Occupation force in the 23rd Field Artillery Regiment and
the 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment. Upon his return to Canada, Ted studied
Commerce at the University of Toronto (Saint Michael's College)
and then received his Chartered Accountant designation. From
1960 to 1986 Ted worked for the Polysar and Petrosar Corporations
in Sarnia, Ontario. Ted and Nadine raised their children and
helped raise their grandchildren in the only home the family
knew and loved so much in Sarnia, Ontario. Both played golf and
were devoted and integral members of Sacred Heart Church. Ted
will be sadly missed and fondly remembered for his good humor,
generosity and most of all, his devotion to his family. Visitation
at the McKenzie and Blundy Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 431 Christina
St. N., Sarnia, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday where prayers will be offered
at 8: 30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial celebrating Ted's life
will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Sacred
Heart Church. Cremation to follow. Private interment at a later

90, died at her home in Gloucester, Massachusetts on Saturday,
December 29, 2007 with her family by her side. She was born January 1,
1917 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Ira J. and Lillian K.
(FOWLER)
STEELE.
She grew up on her family's cattle ranch in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan,
driving teams of work horses and riding a pony to a one-room
school. She loved horses and her deep bond with them and many
other animals was a source of comfort and delight throughout
her life. She received a Bachelor of Arts in teaching from Victoria
College, University of Toronto. During World War 2, she worked
for the Canadian Navy in vision research. She continued her education
at Harvard University where she received a Ph.D. in physiology
in 1952 and pursued research in endocrinology. While her children
were growing up, she devoted herself to their well-being, and
encouraged them in their dreams. She became a skilled silversmith,
studying for many years at the DeCordova Museum School. Her designs
were original and beautifully executed, gifts that delighted
their recipients. Her reading spanned a universe of interests,
and her creative talents were also expressed in knitting, in
gardening and in dancing. She worked hard and believed strongly
in sharing whatever she had with those less fortunate. She was
interested in and supported many efforts to achieve justice for
both people and animals and to preserve the wild places of the
Earth.
On June 20, 1952 she married Christopher
MARTIN who survives.

Burial was in the family plot in Saxtons River Cemetery. A memorial

KROEGER is survived by his spouse, Huguette

first wife, Gabrielle (Gay); and by his brother Henry and sister

September 7, 1932, on a farm in Naco, Alberta, Mr.
KROEGER
was the youngest of seven children. The family were Mennonites
who emigrated from Russia in 1926 and settled in Alberta. Mr.
KROEGER
graduated from the University of Alberta with an honours degree
in English literature in 1955, and was then awarded a Rhodes
Scholarship to study at Oxford, where he took a degree in politics,
philosophy and economics. In 1958, he joined the Department of
External Affairs as a foreign service officer, serving in Geneva,
New Delhi and Washington. From 1975 to 1992, Mr.
KROEGER served
as a deputy minister in the federal government in six departments,
including Indian and Northern Affairs; Transport; Energy, Mines
and Resources; and Employment and Immigration. After leaving
the government in 1992, he served as Chancellor of Carleton University
from 1993 to 2002, where the Kroeger College of Public Affairs
was named after him in 1999. He was also a visiting professor
at the University of Toronto in 199394 and a visiting fellow
at Queen's University 1993-2000. In 2000, he was elected an honorary
fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford and received the University
of Alberta's Distinguished Alumnus Award. He chaired the Public
Policy Forum 1992-94 and was chair of the Canadian Policy Research
Network and the National Statistics Council at the time of his
death. In 1989, he received the Public Service Outstanding Achievement
Award. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1989 and
a Companion of the Order in 2000. He held honorary doctorates
from the Universities of Western Ontario, Alberta, Calgary and
Carleton. He was the author of two books: Hard Passage, about
his family's experience in emigrating from Russia to Canada
and a forthcoming memoir about the definitive reform of Western
grain transportation, which will be published by the University
of Alberta Press next year. The funeral will take place at Christ
Church Cathedral, 420 Sparks Street, Ottawa, K1R 5A6, on Thursday,

Philip grew up in Birmingham, England, went to King Edwards school
and at age 18 went directly to the Territorial Army. In 1939,
Philip enlisted in the British Army as an anti-aircraft gunner.
He then became a Lieutenant and was sent to India where he served
until the end of the war. He then graduated from the University
of Birmingham in Electrical Engineering. Philip came to Canada
and worked at Canadian Westinghouse and Atomic Energy of Canada
Ltd., where he met his wife Bernice. He retired at age 62 and
enjoyed his gardening, theatre and travelling. A special thanks
for the wonderful care provided by Champlain Manor Retirement
Residence and the Palliative Care Unit at the Orillia Soldiers'
Memorial
Hospital.

The spirit in me greets the spirit in you' Cheryl D.
BROWN passed
away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the age of 55 years
after waging a valiant battle with breast cancer since 2005.
Cheryl grew up in the small Ontario town of Clinton as a modest
farm girl until she ventured 'out west' in 1972. She settled
in Calgary and completed her education at the Southern Alberta
Institute of Technology earning an honours diploma in Engineering
Graphics in 1975. Cheryl touched the lives of many over the years
in the Woodvale Community of Edmonton where she nurtured her
children and shared many happy years with her former spouse Murray
BROWN from 1979 to 1998. In 1987, Cheryl as a chairman of First
Millwoods United Church led the congregation to commence construction
of the first new Edmonton United Church in fifteen years. In
1988, as a political activist for investors, she lobbied the
Alberta government resulting in seventy million dollars in compensation
to Principal Investor's. 1989 saw Cheryl's political lobbying
efforts resulting in four Junior High Schools being prioritized
for construction. The family moved to Calgary in 1994. Cheryl
enjoyed a fulfilling career with Scotia McLeod, the Calgary Financial
Industry, colleagues, and her very special clients from 1994 to
the present. Cheryl's priorities in life over the years were
her family, her church and her Friends at Scotia McLeod. Cheryl
will be missed by her dedicated and loving partner Julie
