in Montreal after a lengthy illness. Doctor Laurent
LAMER dedicated
over 40 years of his life to Notre-Dame Hospital's Ophtalmology
Department and to the Medicine Faculty of Université de Montréal.
Beyond the many patients he has had the privilege of treating,
Dr. LAMER was a pioneer of the use of lasers in the treatment
of retinal disease and in the use of ocular ultra sound as a
diagnostic tool. In recognition of his many contributions to
the advancement of medicine, Doctor

a career medal (Médaille de carrière) in 2004 by the Ophtalmology
Department and the faculty of medicine of the Université de Montréal.

BENTLEY announces his passing. Fred died with
dignity and comfort at Bluewater Health Palliative Care at the
age of 59. Fred is predeceased by his father Cyril (Cy) in 1991,
mother Joyce E. in 1996, and sister Sharron A in 2007. Fred was
born in Simcoe, Ontario and moved to Sarnia in 1950. He was employed
at Fiberglas Canada for 25 years and recently worked as a production
supervisor at Solus Manufacturing (H.E. Vannatter) in Wallaceburg
for the past 13 years. Fred is survived by his soul mate and
wife Linda of 33 years. Daughter Marnie and her partner Jason

He is fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and many Friends.
Born in Montreal West, his early talent as an artist, particularly
in watercolours, led to a career in architecture, graduating
from McGill in 1952. He practiced architecture in Calgary and
British Columbia, ending his career with the City of Vancouver,
but his love of trees and landscape probably exceeded his interest
in buildings, French Gothic cathedrals excepted. As a younger
man, he was an ardent skier and sports car enthusiast, with the
ski day ending in a race down the mountain road. In his 60's
his interest in car racing re-emerged, and he drove at tracks
across Canada into his late 70's. A memorial service to follow
at a later date.

many nieces and nephews. For 30 years prior to his retirement
in 1975, Nelson was the Executive Vice President of the Society
of Industrial Cost Accountants of Canada, and for 25 of those
years he also served as Secretary Treasurer of The Society of
Industrial Cost Accountants of Ontario (now called The Society
of Management Accountants). Nelson was also active in a number
of community groups such as the Children's Aid Society, the Hamilton
District Health Council and the Ontario Research Council. Upon
his retirement, he continued his interest in community work.
He organized and became the first Manager of DARTS, the first
Executive Director of the Saint_Joseph's Hospital Foundation, Treasurer
of the Council on Road Trauma, and President of the Alzheimer
Society of Hamilton- Wentworth. His memberships included: the
Rotary Club of Hamilton, Canadian Club of Hamilton, Probus Club
of Burlington and the Burlington Baptist Church. He received
many honours including: The Centennial Medal (1967), First-ever
Fellow, Society of Management Accountants (1976), The Queen Silver
Anniversary Medal (1977), the Governor General's Caring Canadian
Award (2000). Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance
will be held at Burlington Baptist Church, 2225 New Street, Burlington,
on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at 2 p.m. If desired, memorial
contributions to The Saint_Joseph's Hospital Foundation or the
Gary Allan Scholarship Fund, would be appreciated by the family.

age of 89 of pneumonia. A loving father and husband, he is remembered
with love and gratitude by sons Vaughan and Brett, and by daughters-in-law

He served as a Flight Lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Air
Force, attached to the Royal Air Force, in the United Kingdom
Middle East, India and Sri Lanka, 1942-1946. He received his
Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Honours) in 1950 from the University
of Manitoba and went on to work for Manufacturer's Life Insurance
Company from 1950-1967. George then moved to Sun Life Assurance
as an actuary, becoming President and Director in 1978. George
was known for his integrity and commitment, serving on the boards
of Renascent Treatment Centre, the University of Waterloo and
Toronto Western Hospital amongst others. He enjoyed his retirement
years with family and Friends in Toronto and Creemore, golfing,
playing tennis and curling. George was an exceptional gardener
and dearly loved the outdoor life. Friends may call at Trull

a four year illness. Born in Morden, Manitoba and attended school
and university in Winnipeg, Jim had many happy years acting and
singing in Rainbow Stage Productions in Winnipeg. Active in his
high school years, Jim enjoyed football, basketball, hockey,
swimming, and in his adult years was an ardent tennis player.
Jim had a distinguished career of 42 years with the Toronto-Dominion
Bank, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Ontario North
and East Division. He took great pleasure in the camaraderie

Humber clan. He was from long-time Victoria families on both

in the Island View Beach area, grandparents, Ambrose and Ellen
MATTHEWS were well-known and lived on Quadra near Hillside. Grandparents,

McCAHILL lived in the Hillside/Bridge
St. area for many years and were active in the Odd Fellows/Rebekah
Lodges.
Mike attended Burnside Elementary, Central Jr. and Victoria High
School, and the Victoria College in Craigdarroch Castle. After
a short break in the Army, he returned to education earning his
B.A. at University of British Columbia, his B.L.Sc. at University
of Toronto and later Advanced Computers at the same university.
After receiving his B.A., he travelled a year exploring Britain
and parts of Northern Europe. Returning to Canada with his bride
Sally, he earned his B.L.Sc. at the University of Toronto then
worked in Victoria at the Greater Victoria Public Library and
later at U. Vic. He later worked at Sir George Williams University
in Montreal and spent most of his career at Robarts Library at
the University of Toronto. He played a major role in establishing
the computer cataloguing system that replaced the overloaded
existing system. He excelled and was well-respected in his field
and will be missed by all.

After many cold winters and sizzling summers in Toronto, Mike

family, and travelling. He was also a really great brother!

Florena is survived by her 38 grandchildren,
54 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also
survived by 2 brothers, 4 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 23rd,
2008 at 2: 00 p.m. in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William St.
(between King and York). Private Interment in Dorchester, Ontario.
