Of Saint Thomas, passed away peacefully on Thursday April 3, 2008 at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 82nd year. Dearly loved husband of Mary (LOW/LOWE/LOUGH) WISE and much loved father of Cathy and her husband Tim RAE of Beaumont, Texas, Beth and her husband Tom VINC of London and Michael and his wife Caterina WISE of Brights Grove. Dear brother of Shirley HENDERSON (late husband George) of Saint Thomas and George and his wife Jean WISE of Saint Thomas. Loved puppa of Jason and his wife Allyson RAE, Lindsay RAE and her partner Orland REYES, Carlie VINC and Angela, Noah and Sarah WISE. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Saint Thomas on October 20, 1926, the son of the late Frederick and Mary (POOLE) WISE. He worked with the O.P.P. and then the Saint Thomas Psychiatric Hospital. Bob served in the Navy during World War 2 and was a member of Branch 41 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a member of Saint Thomas Lodge #44 Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Hi-Ro Shrine Club, member and past President of the Oriental Band and a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club. He also was an avid golfer and bridge player. A public Service to celebrate Robert's life will be held Monday afternoon at 1: 00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas. Visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and Monday from 12: 00 to service time. Cremation has taken place, with private entombment in Elmdale Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital (Palliative Care Unit) or the Shriners Hospitals for Sick Children.

Thank You - We would like to thank our Friends and families for all the support given to us during the illness and passing of Shirley REID. You do not realize how many lives are touched by one person it seems until they are gone, and Shirley certainly touched many. We are all thankful to have been part of that. A special Thank You goes out to Jimmy and Ruby McGOOGAN two truly wonderful Friends who where there every step of the way with us, and Shirley. STYKE, wife Sheila and grandson Ronnie (Wayne) MARSHALL, Jr. of Parksley, Virginia, Sisters: Mary SEMKIW of Oakville, Ontario, Stephanie LOW/LOWE/LOUGH of Oakville, Ontario and Vera VINNICK of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Nephews; Dennis SEMKIW and his wife Norlee and children Johnathon and Marilee of Mississauga, Ontario, Brian SEMKIW and his wife Colleen and children Ashleigh, Katie, Marrissa and Kelly of Oakville, Ontario, Randy LOW/LOWE/LOUGH and his wife Joceyln and children Kristin and Jessica and one niece Patricia LOW/LOWE/LOUGH and daughter Leanne of Oakville, Ontario. He was born in the Ukraine, immigrated to Canada in 1930 and the United States in 1965. He was the developer and owner of the Meatland/Food City supermarket chain on the Delmarva Peninsula from 1973-1989. He was an active member of Northside Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, Florida serving as a deacon and on the finance committee. Predeceased six months ago by her beloved soulmate and husband of 56 years, George. Wonderful and fun-loving mother of Shelagh (Bruce PETERSON,) Mississauga; Moira (Les WHITE/WHYTE), Ottawa; Barbara (friend of Paul FLANAGAN), Strathroy; and George (Lori LUFF), Mississauga. Adored Grandma of Susan, Kathryn (fiancée of David LUND,) and Brian PETERSON; Emily (fiancée of Stefan GINGRAS,) Elisabeth (Alex SARABURA,) Fraser, Anna, and Mary WHITE/WHYTE; and Abigail, Joshua, Zachary, and Jessica RAYNER. GALLAGHER and Marie Cecilia DRISCOLL, Phyllis graduated from St. Mary's Academy, St. Boniface Hospital (R.N., 1944) and the University of Toronto (PhN, 1950). For many years she was a Public Health Nurse in Brantford, retiring in 1988 as Acting Director. A tireless volunteer, organizer, and crusader for social justice, Phyllis was the first female chair of the Saint_Joseph's Hospital board, a past chair of the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital Community Advisory Board, a past chair of the Canadian Mental Health Association Task Force on Housing for the Psychiatrically Disabled, a past chair of the Mohawk College Studies in Aging Advisory Committee, a founding member of the Nova Vita women's shelter, and a past board member of the Brant County Children's Aid Society, the Brant District Health Council, the Children and Youth Services Council, and the Brant and Branford Housing Authority. She also worked on the Ontario Provincial Psychiatric Hospitals Strategic Planning Committee and at the Ontario Board of Parole. A lifelong Liberal, Phyllis served as president of the Brantford Liberal Party. She was also a Companion of the Sisters of Saint_Joseph. She was awarded the Canada 125 medal in 1992, the J.A.D. Marquis Award for her contribution to health care in Brant in 1995, and last month she was delighted to be presented with the Mission Legacy Award by the Saint_Joseph's Healthcare System. Phyllis will long be remembered for her incredible joie de vivre, wicked sense of humour, common sense, and quest for adventure. She loved her family fiercely, cultivated life-long Friendships, and together with George, welcomed all to their home with open arms. She will be greatly missed.
