Dear step-mother of Damian and his wife Daniele COLEMAN of Saint Thomas, Julie and her husband Craig KENNEY of Toronto and Melissa and her husband Colin DUFFY of London. Dear sister of Jane BUCHAN of Saint Thomas and Kenneth BUCHAN of Woodstock. Sadly missed by four grandchildren. Catherine was born in London April 24th, 1949. She worked over 25 years for the C.I.B.C. and has worked for the Credit Unit at the Saint Thomas Psychiatric Hospital the past four years. Predeceased by brother George and grand_son Derek. His sense of humour, classic golf swing and kind heart will be missed by his grandchildren: Rob and Andrew WILLIAMS Jonathan and Blakeney SHAW; Ryan, Dane, Regan and Drew S. PALLETT. In 1953 John became the first dentist in Clarkson, and proudly practiced there until 1995. For the next decade he enjoyed the Friendships he made as a professional driver with Avis. John served in Great Britain, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands with the No. 1 Canadian Dental Corp from June 1941 to January 1946 and then graduated as a member of the University of Toronto School of Dentistry Class of 1951. He was the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Clarkson, a longtime Cub Scout leader, and a 38 year member of the Oakville Golf Club. Friends will be received at the Neweduk Funeral Home "Mississauga Chapel", 1981 Dundas Street West (1 block east of Erin Mills Parkway), from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. ASHENHURST, Robert Carl
(April 5, 1918-March 8, 2008)
Carl left us just before he celebrated his 90th birthday. Predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Rita (née THRASHER) and by his treasured daughter, Jane (Charlie), his passing has left a hole in the hearts of his son John and his wife Brooke MILLS of Surrey, British Columbia, his daughter Lani and her husband Maurice KENNY, of Stratford, and his son Jim and his wife Lila, of Burlington. Carl is predeceased by his sister, Isabel (GREENWOOD) and her husband Al, and by his brother Robert (Bert) and his wife Thelma. Carl will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Erin ASHENHURST, Corinn SMITH and her husband Paul, along with their daughters Hayleigh and Makenna, and by his grand_son, Rob. To his nieces and nephews, his great-nieces and nephews and their children, Carl represented a wise, generous, humourous and kind 'head of the clan' and he will be long grieved. Carl started life in Goodwood, in Uxbridge Township, Ontario and worked his first paid job at the age of 7, weeding carrots for $0.10 an hour. He was a gifted athlete, excelling particularly in hockey and lacrosse. He started working as a bookkeeper in New Brunswick at the age of 19 and worked his way up through the mining industry to top executive positions in mines such as Heath Steele Mines, Mattagami Lake Mines, Stanley Uranium and Noranda Mines. During this time he helped to raise his family and became a Chartered Accountant. He ended his employment with Noranda as Vice President, Finance. After retiring for a year or so, Carl then started working on the financing of the Blackdome Mine in British Columbia. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Blackdome Mine, he and his team built and brought the gold mine into full production in record time, a culmination of all that he had garnered in his 40+ years in the mining industry of Canada. Carl had a wide circle of close Friends and loved a game of golf, a game of cards and especially a long chin-wag. Most of all Carl loved his family both related and extended. He leaves behind many precious lessons and we absorbed those lessons by his example. Work hard. Play harder. Love hardest. Our sincere thanks to the staff on Kent at Billings Court Manor who eased his journey to the end. Of Wiarton, peacefully, with his loving wife Gail by his side at Grey Bruce Health Services Wiarton on Saturday, March 8th, 2008. Simon Quirinus Maria KOOPMAN in his 63rd year. Devoted husband to the former Gail KENYON. Cherished father of Ross and his fiancée Ashley KAKADE, of Kitchener. Simon will be sadly missed by his brother Hilbert and his wife Diane, of Wingham special aunt Reit and uncle Ernie ROSSETT and family; and his aunts and cousins in Canada and Holland. Predeceased by his parents Pieter (2005) and Jansje (2006). In keeping with Simon's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation with spring graveside service in Bayview Cemetery, Wiarton on Saturday, May 17th, 2008. Following interment family invite Friends to join with them for the planting of a Beech tree in memory of Simon in the meadow of the Thomas C. Whitcroft Funeral Home and Chapel. HATTON, Wing Cmdr. Frank Hatton D.F.C., C.D., Royal Canadian Air Force, Retired
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Frank HATTON on Friday, March 14, 2008. He was in his 92nd year. Frank was born and raised in Toronto. He left Canada to join the Royal Air Force as a pilot in 1937, and in 1943, transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he served until his retirement in 1965. He and his wife Claire▼ (GODIN) moved to Cedar Springs in 1967, where he worked for the Ontario Government as Personnel Director at the Southwestern Regional Centre until 1977. Claire died in 1992 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Blenheim. Frank▼ married Thelma FLUM in 1993 and they have resided in Blenheim until this time. A true gentleman, Frank served his country with distinction and was devoted to his family. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Thelma▼ HATTON, daughter Mary Frances and Joe SHEEHAN of Toronto, daughter Ruth HATTON of Belleville, son John HATTON and Maureen WALSH of London, son Robert HATTON and Caro CLARKE of Erie Beach, son Christopher HATTON and Linda KENYON of Waterloo and step-daughter Jacqueline RAY of Chatham. Proud grandfather of Andrea, Alex, Elizabeth, Jessica, Jake, T.J., Sarah, Laura, Patrick, and Philip.
