With her family by her side, Frantiska
DROZD passed peacefully,
at the London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital, on
March 29, 2008 at the age of 76. Frantiska (Frances) was born
in Brno-Obřany, Czechoslovakia to her parents, Frantiska and
Ferdinand TRNEČKA on May 24, 1931. Refusing to live life under
the communist regime, Frantiska and her family made a daring
escape to freedom in 1968 and chose to begin a new life in Sarnia,
Ontario. This was later followed by a happy retirement with her
husband John in London. Frantiska was well liked by co-workers
and Friends. She had a successful career, working as a supervisor
in the payroll department of a military hospital in Brno, Czechoslovakia.
She later became a secretary at the International Expedition
Place. In Canada, Frantiska became a successful piping and electrical
designer working in the petrochemical industry, first in Sarnia
and later at Syncrude in Ft. McMurray, Alberta. In 1986, Frantiska
became a heart transplant recipient at the University Hospital.
She and her family relocated to London, where Frantiska worked
for the next 22 years as an accountant for the law firm of her
daughter, Zora
DROZD, in Sarnia, Ontario. Frantiska enjoyed many
great travels and adventures in her life, both before and after
her heart transplant. She was a model of compassion and kindness.
Frantiska took on everything life sent her way with strength
and dignity, which is something everyone learned from her. Frantiska
was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was happily married
to her husband, John, and enjoyed a very close and loving relationship
with her children, Zora, John, and Sandra, and later with her
son-in-law, Rick DE
JONG, and her grand_son, Cole. Frantiska also
enjoyed a loving relationship with her sister, Kveta Kobylkova,
and her niece, Simona
PECHOVA, both of whom reside in Prague,
Czech Republic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday,
April 1, 2008 at 10: 00 a.m. at the Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta
Street, London. Following the celebration of her life, Frantiska
will be cremated and interred at the Oakland Cemetery, 390 Oxford
Street West, London. If so desired, please make donations in
Frantiska's name to London Health Sciences Foundation, Multi-Organ
Transplant Program. You will be forever loved and missed. Na

Sophia passed away peacefully at her Toronto home, surrounded
by family. Beloved wife of Jeffrey

JONGE and her sister Yolanda. She leaves behind her
mother, Corrie DE
JONGE and brothers Mike (Lucy,) Fred (Lisa)
and Pieter (Susan). Sophia obtained her LLB from The University
of Windsor in 1984 and her Masters in Law from The Free University
in Brussels, Belgium in 1986. After practicing law on Bay Street,
in 1988 Sophia joined Kodak Canada as In-House Legal Counsel
where she was respected for her hard work, intellect, compassion,
and dedication. She enjoyed tennis, squash, and skiing at the
Georgian Peaks Ski Club where she had many Friends and supported
the Peaks racing program. Sophia spent many wonderful summers
at the DE JONGE family cottage on Lake of Bays. She was a member
of the Rosedale Presbyterian Church and was very involved with
her children's school activities, recently co-chairing the Whitney
Public School main fundraising gala. In 1997, Sophia was diagnosed
with breast cancer and in 2001 retired from work to spend more
time with her family. She pursued her love of travel, including
family trips to Italy, France, the Galapagos Islands, The Bahamas,
California and, this past March, to Hawaii. Sophia's family thanks
Dr. David WARR and the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital and
all of her caregivers for their dedication. Also thanks to her
many Friends who stood by Sophia through it all. The Pink Tulip
Fund Determined that something good should come from her struggle
with breast cancer, in 2007 Sophia and some great Friends founded
'The Pink Tulip Fund'. The goal of The Pink Tulip Fund is to
help young girls to increase their awareness and knowledge of
breast cancer prevention. By establishing good habits today and
empowering young women to make smart choices, we can help to
ensure that they lead long, healthy lives, and that fewer will
experience the pain of breast cancer. The Fund's website is www.pinktulip.ca.

caregivers, Friends and family with love and laughter. Her innate
caring, graciousness, beauty, and sense of humour prevailed over
the effects of Alzheimers and stroke, as did her love of music
and joy in song. Predeceased by her loving husband, John Edwin
(Jack), and survived by her daughters Barbara and Catherine,

Ethel was born
on a homestead near Clairmont, Alberta. Her musical talent emerged
early, and earned her scholarships to study in Banff and in Toronto
at the Royal Conservatory. She established a successful performing
and teaching career, sharing her love of music with many students.
Ethel supported her husband Jack through his long career with
Abitibi, from where he retired as Corporate Director and Vice
President Finance in 1978. She blessed our home with warmth and
kindness, as well as her gift of music. Sincere thanks to her
caregivers who sustained her with a loving and supportive environment.
She will be missed by Cecille, Cathy, Esther, Gloria, Glenn,
and Fatima. Thanks also to Judith, Evangeline, Louise, and Louis,
to Barbara whose craniosacral treatments helped prolong her quality
of life, and to her medical team. Friends may call at the Turner and
Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke, (between
Islington and Kipling Aves.) Friday 7-9 p.m. Funeral service
will be held in the chapel Saturday March 22, 2008 at 3 o'clock.
