Dear mother of Ernie and Theresa ALBERT of Wingham, Diane and Percy HOLMES of Brampton, Mike and Barb ALBERT of Brussels, Rodney and Colleen McCULLOCH of Elmwood, Harold and Venita McCULLOCH of Dundalk, Roland and Cherie McCULLOCH of Huron Park and Robert and Tanna ALBERT of Hanover. Sister of Ruth McCULLOCH, Margaret WEBER, Martha McCULLOCH and John CAMPBELL. Also survived by 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Harold and Dorothy CAMPBELL, son William Joseph ALBERT, four brothers and one sister. The visitation was held at the McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, Ontario on Wednesday, February 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Wayne B. BEAMER officiating. The interment was in Greenhill Cemetery, Lucknow, Ontario.

Grandmother of Ben BUTLER (Kellie), Lois BUTLER, Joe BUTLER, and Sarah HOLMES (Brian). Great-grandmother of Keith, Stephanie and Gavin. Also survived by sister-in-law, Roberta BUTLER of Saint Thomas, as well as several nieces and nephews. HARDING, Marie Florence (née FIELD)
Passed away at Southlake Regional Hospital, Newmarket on February 9, 2008 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Marie was the loving daughter of the late Claud and Alice FIELD. Marie grew up in Fairbank and attended D.B. Hood Public School, Vaughn Collegiate, Richmond Hill Collegiate and Ryerson. Marie leaves her sister Marion HOLMES (FIELD,) nephew Claude HOLMES and wife Jayme, great-nieces Heather and Kyra HOLMES. She▼ also leaves niece Jacqueline and her husband George GLEN and great-nephews John and Colin GLEN. Marie enjoyed her work at the Craigleith Ski Club and was very interested in sports, especially baseball. In her youth she played baseball for Sunnyside and later for Maple SRS Ladies K.V.W. League. Marie will be sadly missed by all her loving Friends at Wasaga Beach and Collingwood, and remembered with great love by her family. Many thanks to the 6th Floor Cancer Care Unit at Southlake Hospital. Fond memories of Mike - beloved soul mate to Peggy, Buddy to Beverley, friend to Laura, John and Cathy; and proudest Poppa to dear Evan. A loving brother and uncle, Mike was a regular vendor at the Elmvale Flea Market for many years. He sold an array of different items from flowers and hardware to jewelry. Most recent was his glass collectables and the big colourful humming-bird feeders that were so popular. Mike always had time to chat and share a story or two. He is sadly missed but fondly remembered today. A thank you to our Friends and neighbours who have been so kind and thoughtful to us this past year. you are much appreciated.

HOWARD, Frank
On February 26th, 2008, in Guadalajara, Mexico, from the effects of lung cancer. Frank, 77, was loved, and will be fondly remembered, by his wife Geraldine CASTLE- TRUDEL and her children Jennifer (widow of Brigadier-General Marc POULIOT, mother of Jessica and Nicole,) Nicholas (husband of Jennifer-Anne McNEILL, father of Noah,) Victoria NOURY (mother of David and Erik) and Mellissa (wife of Ian HOLMES, mother of Oliver.) Also bereaved are his daughters Virginia HOWARD, Susan (wife of Robin LYNCH, mother of Jessica and Alison,) Lisa (wife of Andrew FOGARASIS, mother of Peter and Alice,) Jennifer HOWARD (married to Mary SCOTT,) and their mother Patricia, as well as many other relatives and numerous Friends. When Frank retired from journalism on February 18, 1994, he was writing the Bureaucrats column in the Ottawa Citizen. As a tribute, John Gray reminisced about Frank as a journalist and friend for The Bureaucrats: Souvenir Edition. What John wrote is as affectionately appropriate today as it was then: "Many, many years ago when he was Canada's youngest city editor on Canada's oldest daily newspaper, Frank HOWARD taught me the rudiments of journalism. For this I am grateful: it has kept me off the streets in the intervening 30 odd years. Since then, however, the HOWARD scorecard is a bit smudged. Early on, he set out to save the country. He busied himself with the affairs of Quebec and talked endlessly to those who would listen about the mystic union of French and English Canada. He wanted to be, he said, un interlocuteur valable. The rest is history - the immediate birth of the Quebec separatist movement and the country's long decline into the national toilet. So much for the joys of mysticism. He was not much better outside Quebec. He travelled to Toronto to be the best man at our wedding. This was much appreciated, except that he insisted on playing the rustic, throwing himself downstairs in full view of 50 people. Two days later, at what was supposed to be a wedding party, he lectured another 50 people for 4½ hours on the evils of contraception. A lot of people still believe that I am a hideous judge of character. In the mid-1960s he persuaded me that the Montreal Star was a wonderful place to work. He left within a few weeks. And a few years later, of course, the Montreal Star died. Through long and patient effort, Frank was crucial in furthering a lifelong commitment of myself and many others to beer and related pleasures. Later he renounced the devil and all his works and he now looks upon the rest of us with sad eyes and infinite pity and superiority. My own suspicion is that this exalted moral plane from which he now views the world is his own revenge for a lifetime of short jokes. Those who know him will recognize in all this a desperate ring of truth. However, I will say this for Frank. Over the years he has resisted the temptation to teach me everything he knows about snooker. Of such forbearance is great Friendship made."
In accordance with his wishes he has been cremated, and so "Adieu kind friend, adieu…."

HOLMES, W. Wayne
It is with much sadness that the family of W. Wayne HOLMES announce his passing at the age of 84 years. Wayne was predeceased in 2001 by his beloved Thelma, wife of 56 years. Born in Saskatoon in 1923, Wayne joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942 and was one of 26 Canadians who served in the Royal Navy Submarine Service. Returning home in 1946, he re-joined the Bank of Montreal and for the next four decades, his career took him from Vancouver to Saint John's. Throughout his life, Wayne found many ways to involve himself in his local community, assisting with the 1988 Calgary Olympics, working with the Stoney First Nation peoples and, in more distant communities, through his work with the Canadian Executive Services Organization. Wayne had many passions from raising orchids to politics, but promoting an understanding of Canada's naval history was among the most important. He had the privilege of serving on the Board and as President of the Naval Museum of Alberta from 1997 until 2002. In both capacities, he took an active role in helping to establish the Museum as one of the best of its kind in Canada. Wayne will be remembered with great love and much affection by his many Friends and family, including his son Robert HOLMES of Vancouver, British Columbia two daughters and two sons-in-law; Karen and Peter SADLIER- BROWN of Toronto, Ontario; Shelley HOLMES and Roy ROBERTS of Vancouver, B.C.; two grandchildren, Joshua SADLIER- BROWN and Jordan ROBERTS and his sister Janet EDWARDS of Conesus, New York, U.S.A. Passed away peacefully at Leaside Retirement Residence with family at her side on April 26th, 2008 in her 97th year.
Beloved widow of Jack, loving mother of Fraser and his wife Hope, Gordon and his wife Marlene; cherished grandmother of Deborah, Catherine (George SAMUEL) and David (Lisa) and proud great-grandmother of Rajan SAMUEL, Anne May and Elizabeth HAMBLY. Dear sister of Gordon LATHE and his wife Lois (Burlington) and Doctor Frank LATHE and his wife Eunice (Ottawa;) predeceased by Dorothy L. SCHNIEDER/SNIDER/SNYDER and Prof. Grant LATHE; remembered by nieces, nephews and their families in Australia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. May was co-author of two authorized Latin texts, devoted teacher of Latin texts, devoted teacher of Latin at Forster C.I., Windsor, Forest Hill C.I., Toronto and York Mills C.I., North York. She completed her teaching career at Queen's University where she was a charter member of the Faculty of Education. The students whose lives she touched and enriched will remember her zest for learning and life.

We appreciate the wonderful caring ways of Lorraine BAKER and family and their remarkable caring entire staff of Stayner Nursing Home and Shawn and Paula DAVIDSON for their prompt and caring of Mom and her family.
